McSterling:In that your now non-Igbo Igalas from Anambra state, you may still have sub-divisions who also claim other ethnicities. But bottom line: only fools and ignoramuses love to be divided and thus, easily manipulated. Wish you the best as a northern Nigerian who unfortunately found himself an Anambrarian. |

What a diverse nation? I never heard of this. Nigeria is highly heterogeneous culturally and interwoven ethnically, |

McSterling:This is type of story which Muslim SW and North of Nigeria love so much. . The more the unbelievers divide themselves into tiny ethnic groups, the more they are easily overrun and Jihaded. Mr Igalla continue. I am not sure Igbos are constraining any non-Igbo become Igbo. So it's not easy to understand your motivation for writing this. |

A beautiful intellectual discuss being invaded by ethnic perverts. One area that most contributors have failed to explore in this matter dates back to the period of antiquity. The truth is, all these people including Bini, Nupe, Yoruba etc were one and same people who separated into tribes after thousands of years of separation and isolation, after a journey that separated them from the KhoSan(the oldest tribe) in Southern Africa, and later from the Bantu; the journey took them to Congo as one people, from where they journeyed to Sudan, and from Sudan to the Niger/ Benue confluence area. It was here first Ile Ife was established, at which point Yorubas were known as Ugbo. This ancient human settlement was destroyed by flood and another Ile Ife was founded further south; Igala separated, Igbo separated from Ugbo, the Binis sepata and intact over 70% of the tribes were birthed here. Nupe was originally Nyuife which referred to Ile Ife. It was Nyuife that was corrupted to Nupe. You'll be shocked if you study Yoruba, Igbo, and Igala languages the striking similarities, in all honesty, they're variations of same language if we can listen intelligently. So you'll continue to see things that makes you wonder how they happened. Those who named us together as Niger/Congo group weren't jokers, they were researchers. DNA mapping of African tribes released a couple of years ago shows that Igbo and Yoruba are 99.99% genetically identical.

OP, Identity is part of a man's life, Igalas in anambra are not alone in this, there are similar cases in Enugu, Nnsuka to be precise, Igara in Edo state and some parts of Delta and Benue state as well. The local chiefs in these areas still pay homage to the Atah Igala till date, when ever there is any special festival. The Igala kingdom is the only kingdom in the north that was never conquered, their territory transends all this communities that have now become part of southern states in today's Nigeria. |

What is the meaning of this? Any Anambraians that speaks Igalla to me need slap. Canvas for your own state and don't disturb us. If you feel safer with kogites and are not willing to adapt your igboness then goodluck. Nobody cares. McSterling: |

Odukes:Stop saying what you are not sure of. Kwararafa kingdom (Taraba) and Borno empire were not conquered by fulanis and they are northern Nigeria. Tivs, Plateau people, Southern kaduna and some parts of Adamawa, Nasarawa and Gombe were also never conquered, even though these places were not kingdoms. |

I always find the culture of illogical intellection on Nairaland tiring. The op has written a fantastic piece on the Igala people living outside Kogi State. He raised issues around identity, language, culture and ignorance of existence. However, some simpletons have reduced the beautiful piece to ownership/settlement debate. Some posers will highlight the folly of this simplistic reading of the op's perspective by our 'town and village owners' in Anambra. 1. Does settlement deny any people a claim of ownership?Think native Americans/the pilgrims in the US. 2. Even if the Igala people conquered and settled in those communities, does that make them less Anambra rians? 3. We have Igbos in parts of Ibaji and Olamaboro LGAs of Kogi State, even if quite invisible. Are they less Kogites or 'mere settlers' with no ownership claim in those villages were their ancestors lived, built and thrived? I think Nairaland needs to be more stringent in designing standards for intellectual crossfires. A people must never be demeaned in the name of ownership claims. @op, thank you for the piece and the maturity that underlie your responses to those rants and empty gravel hits. Agba omaye. |

| Re: The Igala People In Anambra State by Nobody: 3:56pm On Nov 24, 2017 |
McSterling:Igala are actually igbos as an ethnic group But tribe wise, they are not... Igala n Idoma share a common ancestry because their blood has mixed so much. There's a saying in igbo land that "Mmadu gwu godi na ala igbo, Igbo aka fokwa na igala". It means even if they kill all the igbos that resides in igbo land, There will still be igbos in Igala land........To carry on the blood line. There are also many Igbos who reside in kogi n benue states. |

OP, You kept on talking and talking without exactly stating how the igala(s) got to Anambra so that you can support your arguement with some history and facts. Go back and do a proper research of your people. |

I make bold to identify with your interest to make people know your pedigree and your true identity. Having come this far to identify with your lineage, give me a handle so I may contact you and possibly send t history of Igala to you. This may enable you know more of your lineage better. B it known that, Attah Igala ruled from Ida to Asaba and Onitsha in the past. The British carved your place to the present day Anambra for administrative purpose and to weaken the power of Ata Igala |
