LordAdam16: You said Cruyff was one of the greatest with the likes of Maradona. I said he is not even better than Zidane (who himself is not in the league of Maradona). So how are you not stating greatest? |

samisj4real: Ronaldo carried them to the finals. Without him, they would not be there. And he then got injured at the finals. If he was not injured, they wold have been a stronger team by all evidence. So give him the props! 1 Like 1 Share |

Sagamite: Better respect yourself if you don't understand English. Does your post satisfy the criteria for the definitions? You said Messi is better than Ronaldo. Is that objective? Is that a fact? That you can't understand the clear use of English is baffling. It's the exact reason why debating with you is pointless. It's like pouring water in a basket, you comprehend nothing. Absolutely nothing. -Lord |

Sagamite: Ah! Another dust-bin intellectual that resorts to vituperation when called out for being dumb. No, I don't know the meaning of criteria. But apparently you do, but don't know the meaning of objective and fact, even when it is pinned on your forehead. Simple question, was your statement objective or a fact and you can't answer. Move along, I think there are many others who'd want to argue with you. Waste your time with them. -Lord |

Story 4 the gods. The numbers don't lie jorr. The sooner u critics admit he's the greatest of his time the better for yall. Why must he switch to another league asides laliga to prove himself? Has he not consistently played against the best teams from top leagues across europe in champions league and still messed them up in the pitch. What about international level? Has he underperformed in anyway when he played for his country Argentina? Barcelona believed in him and invested when all others lost hope cos he had some type of growth deficiency. He being a man of integrity is repaying Barca by being loyal to the end. All u oppornunaldo fans need to quit writing trash about the genius & get a job. Or better yet get on youtube and watch unlimited videos of Messi destroying ur best top players of all time including oppornunaldo . Bye haters |

Sagamite: Which question |
Re: Messi's Decision To Stay At Barcelona Ensures He'll Never Be The Greatest Ever by Obi1kenobi(m): 2:25pm On Nov 30, 2017 |
Sagamite: Ronaldo got lucky in the Euros. Portugal finished their group as the 3rd placed team without a victory and behind mediocre sides like Hungary and Iceland and only qualified as one of the best losers. They were outplayed by Poland and Croatia but soldiered on through extra time and penalties in those contests. Their only good performance was against a Wales with Ramsey's ban decisive for a Wale's team with no depth. They were completely battered by France in the finals (which was happening even with Ronaldo on the pitch), but had France' extreme wastefulness to thank for an unlikely victory. Ronaldo deserves some credit, but using that tournament as any kind of advantage over Messi hardly seems rational considering his performance. Some of Ronaldo's fans try to craft some kind of narrative where he dragged Portugal to a Euros win. He did nothing of the sort. Not even close. Portugal plodded their way to an unlikely win in the same way that Greece did in 2004 and Denmark did in '96. |

Re: Messi's Decision To Stay At Barcelona Ensures He'll Never Be The Greatest Ever by Obi1kenobi(m): 2:30pm On Nov 30, 2017 |
Sagamite: I guess this would be a matter of opinion. I consider Cruyff comfortably higher in the pantheon of greats than Zidane - just behind Pele and Maradonna and maybe Di Stefano. I'd argue even Platini is greater than Zidane. They're very different types of players, so I guess the only fair measure is the influence they have on their teams. They're just about equal in international influence, but Cruyff's achievements with Ajax is a class above Zidane's club career. |
Re: Messi's Decision To Stay At Barcelona Ensures He'll Never Be The Greatest Ever by VictorRomanov: 2:31pm On Nov 30, 2017 |
Benz4pimp: U intentionally choose to forget that it took Messi a long time to agree to a contract extension. If he was that happy why did he take a long time to decide to extend his contract? Your post just show u have little idea about players' happiness and how they negotiate contract, their reasons for either staying or leaving a club. I would ve schooled you, but just go with your ignorance. |
Re: Messi's Decision To Stay At Barcelona Ensures He'll Never Be The Greatest Ever by Bimpe29: 2:34pm On Nov 30, 2017 |
Absolutely right. Take it or leave it, Messi is a guru, legend and icon. But, his failure to prove his worth and competitive edge outside Barcelona and Spain will forever make him lesser than the duo of Pele and Maradona, if not to Cristiano Ronaldo. He is truly the greatest with Barcelona but not in the world of soccer. Had he been tested outside Laliga and proven his superiority and ditto Argetina, then Pele's claim would have been empirically debunked during the latter's life time. Thanks to rivalry from Cristiano, Messi would have been without a serious contender. |

Obi1kenobi: Fantastic points! Wow! I did not even remember that 3rd place. That just tells any fool that luck is vital in winning competitions and 'team wins' is not a statement on 'player ability' per se. One keeps on telling them these but it is a challenge to enter their thick heads. Great point, mate! Obi1kenobi: Ronaldo cannot be better than Messi. Anyone that says he is is very poor in analysis and reasoning. 1 Like |

Obi1kenobi: Yep. It is a matter of opinions. I believe Cruyff and Zidane are in the same pantheon along with Platini, Iniesta, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Zico, Zidane, Platini, Iniesta, Xavi, Puskas, Di Stefano, Beckenbauer, Matthaus, G. Muller, Xavi etc. Different measures for players playing in different positions/different types of players is my policy. And you are so FCCKING ON POINT that the biggest weighting should be the "measure is the influence they have on their teams". I have said this before. https://www.nairaland.com/1176158/sagamites-top-30-greatest-african/19#14085379 I would add another one: Plus how long they were at their peak for. I would fault that achievement with Ajax though because of era difference. I remember back in the early 90s when Nigeria used to beat the likes of Burkina Faso 7-1. Today, we cannot do that to any African country because football is now a serious business for every country and no more fishermen coming to play for national teams. There are fitter and more professional players nowadays. It is good we have highlights of some of these players. Honestly, Cruyff is a pioneer but some in his pantheon took it to a different level. Cruyff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-v6lMerCYCI Zidane https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvjfBhEH-Zc Iniesta? ...............................Sweet Jesus!!! WOOOOW! ........................Fck Lord! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86MpZTqoWZk As much as we can love pioneers, the game goes to a different level afterwards. Cruyff really only betters them in goal scoring. 1 Like |
