This is the reason why some Igbo men don't think marriage till 50years of age. Marrying an Igbo lady is equivalent to a month budget of state allocation. |

So what were they giving before the introduction of tin tomatoes, watch, beer, maltina, rice and shoes...? This is obviously a list made up as early as the 21st century which means culture is ever evolving. So those forcing others to buy so many items can also evolve and stop it. |

In my own place (idemili in Anambra) d bride price is about #30 naira. D woman's family provides what is to be eaten on d trad wedding day. If d man decides to bring all his kindred and football team, then he will be asked to chip in for d food and drinks. he must bring all that is in d list though, if he can't bring all, he can talk with his father in-law and he will talk with d family members on his behalf. Then for d white wedding d man's family will take care of d expenses. During d dance at d trad wedding, d money recovered will be shared between d man and d woman |

And a rough estimate of one million is cheap? I believe your estimate is too high. With 200k or even less you can get married in Igbo land. |

@op whether u like it or not, marrying an Igbo girl is expensive. You trying to be diplomatic by separating the list requirements from the bride price. Have u seen anybody who was giving an Igbo woman to marry just by paying the #60 or so as u claimed without carrying out all those things in the marriage list? If you ve not, then you ve nothing to say. I'm an Igbo man Nd I spent close to 2 millions naira on the list they gave me. My wife is from Abia.I can see u from Abia so don't try to defend ur people. In my own case I had to even buy wrappers for both my wife's maternal Nd paternal grand parents. Abia state Nd IMO state re not encouraging their male ones to get married to their women. I ve a male friend from isikwato who is scared of getting married from there due to exorbitant price. Anytime he sees me,he shakes me with two hands Nd tell me that am a strong man. Enugu,Anambra Nd Ebonyi re moderately OK. |

, a rough estimate of #1 million, and u said, its cheap. How many young eligible man has that amount in his account. That's why, their men always old before they get married, while trying to make money first. Madam. This is not cheap. In some other tribe u can get married with as low as 50-100,000 naira. That's what is called cheap |
| Re: The Economics Of Igbo Marriage Explained by Atunma(f): 7:21pm On Dec 12, 2017 |
Well this list is no applicable to where I come from in Anambra. The parents list is discretionary in my area. U only buy those wrappers etc for the bride to be but the groom can decide to clothe the bride's parents on the trade marriage day. Abeg wetin be kerosene for list? Una for include fuel naa! |
| Re: The Economics Of Igbo Marriage Explained by kitaatita: 7:25pm On Dec 12, 2017 |
Unseen:The list is flexible according to family. My side of Enugu you don't need 30% of what's on that list to marry |

| Re: The Economics Of Igbo Marriage Explained by Atunma(f): 7:25pm On Dec 12, 2017 |
One million naira ke! That is too much o! A moderate trade marriage should be achieved with btwn 300-500k because tins don cost o, if na when tins good, 250k don do u marry wife. |
| Re: The Economics Of Igbo Marriage Explained by JONNYSPUTE(m): 7:28pm On Dec 12, 2017 |
Etogist:. If u re talking of Enugu,Ebonyi or Anambra, yes but IMO Nd Abia,no way. Except you want to marry at high purchase. U take her Nd pay gradually |
