Yes sir, you are definitely right about this. But please give me a sincere advice should I really reapply or wait and do every other thing. I had a 4.01/5.0 from FUTA

Your gpa is high enough to get into a more competitive program in a bigger school. All that would have needed would have been a gre. You have two choices: in the short term, you can try again with what you have. In the long term, you can go back, restrategize, take a gre, ace it, apply to a better program.

Put yourself in the shoes of the VO, they know that not all of you will return, regardless of all you say... who would you let across? The guy going to Stanford for premed or the guy going to point park for an accelerated class?

Pls I wasn't attended to on dec 8 for my visa appointment & was told to book another date after 72hrs but the date I saw is Jan 31st which i have booked but my school resumes Jan 10 and I'm now hearing one can only use the gtb bank receipt to book only twice & that if I want to book any emergency appointment, I have to go pay another 64k. Pls how true is this considering I've not even attended any interview yet despite having booked twice?

Trust me I wouldn't want to lie about GRE, if it was required by the university, I wouldn't even get an I20

Yes that statement is correct.

You can only cancel once on a receipt and also used a receipt that has not be use for reschedule or cancel to request for emergency request.

....can u believe it was the us customer service that told me that earlier statement? & I began to wonder how I'll have to get another 64k despite not attending any interview. If not for JESUS that helped me take the bull by the horn & table my case to their e-mail address, I would have given up.

I have seen many here who changed schools and got their visa and they stated interesting reason for the action.

Yes you can still mentioned it and not bad about that.

See, community colleges are not exactly charming to any VO. Applying to a community school will reduce your probability of getting that visa. I didn't say it's not possible to get it with one - some people have been that lucky - but the chances become dimmer.

Why do you want a community college so bad? Don't you want to get a degree that would enable you walk into anywhere with confidence? Even if you choose 3 community colleges and they scramble over you with admission letters, it won't impress the VO. In Nigerian parlance, they are "backyard schools" compared to the hundreds of finer colleges. So you will get asked why you are applying to only community colleges; like, why would you want to spend time and money on a backyard school?

As for being affordable, I understand your point of view, but that perspective may not hold water for the VO. Well, just prepare convincing answers by going through the thread for people that have gotten theirs with community colleges. Search, locate, copy, paste somewhere. Search chapter 10 to 12. Community colleges are usually more difficult to sell no matter the reason.

does it mean community colleges no longer admit international students

are you saying the are no longer recognised in the US

Hello everyone,
I have been a silent follower for over 2 months. My visa was approved this morning at Lagos Embassy. Many thanks to Damilare5882 for taking his time to help edit my mock transcript and Twoods and also everyone who has contributed to this thread.

VO: Good morning
ME: Good morning sir
VO: So tell me why you are going to the US?
ME: I am going to the US to study and acquire my masters degree in Public health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
VO: Why masters degree?
ME: The first degree is not competitive enough and the masters degree will give me the knowledge and skills that I need to work with the Federal Ministry of Health, and other public health non governmental organizations in order to reduce disease burden in Nigeria.
VO: What is your first degree?
ME: Microbiology
VO: Tell me what you learnt in school about microbiology?
ME: Microbiology is the study of micro-organisms. Microbiology has different branches such as environmental microbiology, Food microbiology, Industrial microbiology and Medical microbiology.
VO: Tell me about Environmental Microbiology
ME: Environmental Microbiology is the study of micro- organisms in the environment. Some micro-organisms can be harmful while some can be useful. For example, some micro-organisms can be used to degrade wastes in the enivornment. Although we have some wastes called recalcitrant wastes that do not degrade such as Plastics and Iron.
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
ME: 3
VO: Name them
ME: University of North Texas Health science center, West virginia University and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
VO: How many admitted you?
ME: The three
VO: Why are you not going to University of North Texas Health Science Center?
ME: I prefer UAMS because it has a school of Public health that is accredited by the Council on Education for Public health in the US. I will get to work with Professor Brooke Montgomery on her research aimed at examining HIV and STIs disparities in the vulnerable populations and also developing behavioural interventions for sexual risks. Also, they have a curriculum for masters in public health where you get community experience which enables you to apply what you learn in class to the real life.
VO: How did you hear abt UAMS?
ME: I did an extensive research on schools that offer public health in the US using professional sites such as association of schools for programs of public health and sophas.org and I narrowed down my search to UAMS because their curriculum aligns with my career goals.
VO: Did you write GRE or GMAT
ME: GRE
VO: Are you married?
ME: NO
VO: Do you have any children?
ME: NO
VO: Who is your sponsor?
ME: My mother
waited for some minutes
VO: OK, I will be approving your visa now.
ME: Thank you sir
VO: You will get an email.....bla....bla....

TOEFL is simply a test of English proficiency and has nothing to do with gpa. Some schools request it, some don’t. If in doubt, ask your school.
