Re: An Illiterate Lady Has Charm My Friend by baby124:
OP,
I think you are speaking for yourself. As long as she has a handwork and is hardworking, marry her. Her lack of education might mean she lacks opportunity. The fact is there are so many stark illiterate women who make multi millions selling aso oke, these women have trained very successful children and are the breadwinner’s of their family with their stark illiteracy. For these women to make such money, it shows that they are very intelligent, resourceful and have a strong business sense. They just lack opportunity.

I know an older family member who married a complete... as in complete illiterate. I don’t think the woman ever saw a school. Her gbagaun na World Cup winner. It’s so bad she mostly speaks in Yoruba cry. This man flaunts his wife like crazy, no where he no de take him wife. The situation is worse than Goodluck and Payshee. But she is very beautiful and gave this man many kids, who are all very successful in their various fields. Did I mention that the man is stinkinly rich and highly educated. In fact he is a well trained UK and German engineer.

His wife never worked a day in her life. The man over pamper her and spoils her silly. He is also Muslim and never carried girlfriend or got a second wife. Imagine this true life story I told you? Will people not say that woman and her family have carried the man’s head away? But we respect her because the man loves this woman eh. If you disrespect her, you will be ashamed of yourself.

What I am trying to say is, it really depends on the parties involved and what works for them. It also depends how you present your girlfriend to your family. If you stand as a man and show that this girl is for you, they will respect your decision. Think well about your decision. If you think she is the one for you, then make sure you hold tight to that conviction so your family members will not have cause to disrespect your marriage in future. Also, try to support her dreams. It might be going back to school or opening a business. Goodluck to you.

I would expect more open mindedness

1) Abroad trained educated doesn’t mean better educated.
2) Not having a degree doesn’t make one illiterate.
3) love can move mountains
Madame which love biko? You have started again! Why didn't you marry a tout from Oshodi under bridge. Mtchew !

Hmmm...I have been struggling with words to express how I feel about this but couldn't come up with anything that won't make me sound like a biatch. Illiterate and a masters holder...together... Hmmm.

Op biko what's your definition of illiterate sef? Someone who couldn't read or write or someone with very Lil education?

I know people who don't have any tertiary education certificates but are very sound o. Which are we talking about?
Think about it like this, What is the Average of every 5 Hairdresser that makes your hair?

I'm pretty sure you make your hair as a lady, So whatever your average is, Pick the possible best case scenario & compare to this OP's GF. In my opinion OP should look for another girl, There are plenty Educated hardworking hometrained ladies looking Men to Marry now. So why marry Hairdresser?

When the Supply of ladies for the marriage market is Flooded currently as at 2017. You can literally just pick from a Basket of Oranges.

Does that also mean sane people should start picking lunatics as spouses?. I guess that's the basis on which most people on here are for the relationship.
You’re comparing mentally ill people to people who don’t have a certain level of education. How can you rationalize that analogy?
Mental illness is nothing to be made fun of BTW.

To answer your question. No. The two are incompatible. A mentally ill person will need to be treated first before they can make full use of their intellectual and cognitive abilities which are required to function in society (ergo marriage)

Apples and oranges.

She is a realist and her points are very cogent.

It's just like me saying that i want to marry a celebrity in my present social class (e.g nollywood superstar actress). It will only be a tall dream. This is despite my being literate to a considerable extent.

Truth is that, marriage thrives better when the partners have things in common. Forget that so called love. It fades with time. What keeps a marriage is that common interests the couple share. Agreed that their kids could become a common interest, but the relationship between the couple would be further enhanced if they share other things like profession, intellect, social status etc.

Why do you believe they don't have things in common?
They may have similar tastes in music, arts, films, religion, hobbies. Heck, thry may even have similar or closr enough social background. I know a rich man's daughterbwho didnt go to a tertiary school because she just wasnt cut out for formal education. "She no know book". Her parents accepted their fate, she learnt a skill and is doing well in it. Her siblings are all excelling in the corporate world, but she's fine where she is.
Being a hairdresser doesn't make one a low lifer.
There are loads of graduates, both men and women that are as dull as anything, can't hold up a conversation, their thinking so backwards that you wonder.
I learnt Bisola of the last big brother nigeria didnt go to a tertiary institution.Yet she speaks good English, she's talented and definitely sounds intelligent enough, worldly enough to say something about what's going on in her society. She may decide to be a tailor, and she will succeed in it and be respected.
I learnt Alakija, richest woman in Africa started as Maryam Babangida's hairdresser. I'm not sure of her educational qualifications, but for sure she must have been a hairdresser with a difference and a sound mind. At a point in her life, i learnt she sold plantain bunches.
Please not all people who are not formally educated are stupid.
Infact, a lot of educated folks are stupid from my experience with some people and you just want to choke them for their stupidity.
I think we should all learn to respect other people's choices.

My friend is a masters degree holder from UK university and he owns a supermarket and bakery in Ikeja. He wants to marry an illiterate lady. This lady did not complete secondary school. She is a hairdresser.

My friend introduced the lady to his parents for marriage and his parents rejected her. They told him they will never support his decision to get married to the lady. That the lady is below his class. My friend has asked me for an advice on the issue and I think I support his parents' decision. I believe the lady must have charmed him.

What advice do you think I should give him?
Bilyamin Bello that married his class, how did he end up?

Well, if the guy really wants to settle for the lady, let him convince his parents on why she is the best for him. But then this doesn't change the fact that another person who doesn't want to marry an uneducated person or a school drop out is also right on his/her choice.

This guy's case may also be that he is about to make a wrong choice due to sexual attraction. We don't know them so no one can be sure. Besides, some guys really don't know how to make choices of women they roll with. It is not a matter of having even a PhD. They chose wrongly based on mundane considerations. This also applies to some ladies. This is why the rate of divorce is on the rise.

Why do you think marriages lasted longer in those days when parents were the ones that chose spouses for their children? It is because such marriages were built on substance not on frivolities. Parents ensured that their sons married from families that shared some things in common e.g son of a catechist in the catholic church marrying daughter of C.M.O
chairman, or son of a politician marrying daughter of a politician too.
In the same way, a graduate marrying a graduate also strengthens the union because none of them feels inferior to the other, or feels that the other should worship him/her such that there is mutual respect in the union.

To me o, i think people should marry from their class.

What is your definition of illiterate?
Re: An Illiterate Lady Has Charm My Friend by Nobody: 2:40pm On Dec 16, 2017
Nigerians own no dey pass jazz.

There's no jazz in the affair.
He simply love her, end of story.

Have seen illiterates marry literates.

I know of a female medical doctor, who married a guy who dropped at pry 6. And the husband speaks and dresses well. You wouldn't believe he's a drop out, except someone close tells you.

I even have a lawyer friend, she works as the legal adviser to a reputable bank in Lagos. Her husband' is an illiterate but you wouldn't know. He drives one of her cars and dresses well too. And he's into importation. Her mum kicked against their union but she stood her guns and married her man. Even til date her mother still looks down on her husband lol. Cause she's a judge.
My friend even stopped her mum from coming to her matrimonial home if she can't respect her husband as the head.

Smiles.

So op, as long as they can communicate, have similar beliefs, love and understanding. Nothing wrong there.

the ops is even an illiterate for using the title with the word "Charm" ( A real educated person doesn't believe in charm or fetish activities)

when does marriage goes with educational qualification, sorry ops you and your friends family are not exposed.

it is funny how foolish families think, they call others illiterate but act and behave in an illiterate, unexposed and archaic behavior.

what a pity.

if ops and the family was exposed enough they wont be thinking about this matter at all

OR

The family are looking for rich girl and family for their son to marry into. in other word (Gold digging).

Sorry your mentality is archaic and change marriage to a mirage

"I think people should marry from their class"The hypocrisy among Nigerians is in a high rate.

but it is common to see the same nigerian marrying a western with low education but will discriminate against their own because of educational qualification or poor Nigerians women/men marrying and doing all possible means to marry into a rich family.

Biko, what has Education got to do with Religion or fetish activities? This is the first time i'm seeing this. That's why I quoted.

Japan, India & China has the world's best brains & they are ravished with Religious & fetish activities. They have the Best Computer programmers, Medical Doctors & Engineers in the Whole world excluding Russia & Germany.

India has 79.8% of the population practicing Hinduism and 14.2% adheres to Islam, while the remaining 6% adheres to other religions.

China is the country with the largest population of Buddhists, approximately 244 million or 18.2% of its total population Also Japan is not left out.

So I disagree with your statement, Charm or Juju (as I know it) is NOT a respecter of your Education or Queens English.

Illetracy has nothing to do with religion
