While I do agree that people should go ahead to close their GTB account as form of protest. It should not be done on a sentimental basis that the victim of GTB unprofessional conduct is from a particular part of the country. This unprofessional act of using EFCC or police forces to intimidate individuals in issues that is purely a civil matter is very common. I have in my possession tens of thousands of court proceedings and many of the cases has to do with victims bringing a infringment of fundamental human right case against EFCC or the Police and respondents that resort to using security agencies to chase after debtors. In fact, this cut across different sectors, not just banks. Individuals also do this.. It's also very common in land and property cases as well where individuals involved in land or property possession matters use security agencies to intimidate respondents.

In the cases of banks, this is totally unacceptable as I believe there should be laid down procedures to recover funds from debtors. Most of the banks do it. This case is only in public domain because the victim is well known. So, while I advise that people should go ahead to close their GTB accounts as a form of protest, it should not be based on ethnic sentiments. Many Nigerians of different ethnic backgrounds are victims, so such protest should be in support of these victims. Of course, it is okay to feel motivated to do so after reading about Innoson case because most of us know about his business.

But on the other side, our people are very difficult and I can imagine how tough it may be for creditors to get their funds from debtors. But in advanced countries you don't involve police in civil matters. Court judgement is enough. And for a bank, this is a No...No.
