How nice, towards the end of the letter they intend to contact the current owner of the vehicle.

Re: BMW Owners' Forum by uboma(m): 9:22pm On Dec 23, 2017
Been away for three weeks on a row.

Returned to find my tire on the front right hand side flat.

Replaced it with the spare tire.

Drove out this evening to gauge my tires and fix the bad one. Also planned on taking my Bimmer for a wash as dust has covered it.

The Vulcanizer completed his task.

Inserted the car into the ignition but it won't turn. tried severally while turning the steering wheel, all to no avail.

My steering wheel is locked and the key won't turn.

It is dark here. Had to pay one of the locals here to watch over my car during the night.

Ran a search online and found that this problem is not new to BMW cars. I will try using some lubricant by tomorrow morning.

This happens to me ones on my e46. I went to use an ATM, returned and my keys couldn't turn the ignition. I called my mechanic who try but all his efforts was abortive. He later found out that the ignition is bad. The ignition and the entire steering are a single component as regards my e46. This means, the steering was changed and It came with an ignition and a new key.
I now use two keys, grin the old one operates my doors, trunk and the pegeon hole while, the new key operates the ignition only.

Thank you for the response.

Some persons attempted to steal my car tires last night. Thanks to the local security boys I paid to watch over my car.

Tried all I could this morning to no avail.

My competent rewire finally came. He too tried to no avail.

He had to condemn the complete ignition system.

He managed to start the car with some wires in place, drove it to my house.

The next option is to replace the complete ignition system and hopefully I will have two keys like you now do grin

I have to wait till Tuesday or Wednesday when the spare parts market will be open to buy another ignition system.

I did not budget for this at all.....

But it's all good

By the way, how much did it cost you to replace the complete ignition system?

Sorry for what your going through as regards your car @ this time of the year.
As for the steering/ignition, I bought a Belgium brand for 15k. This happened last year.

Anyone that owns a car must be prepared for unplanned situations like these.

I will find out the cost of it at Apo and Gudu by Tuesday.

Thank you once again and Season greetings to you.

Hello bro, If you don't mind, what has your experience with the e46 been like? I don;t care about the cost of maintenance, per se, but the fuel consumption. I am thinking of getting one, but my neighbour tells me his e46 325i drinks too much fuel. I currently drive a Passat TSI, but i want to opt for something much more compact and cheaper to maintain.

I'm thinking of fuel consumption because of the current situation. The e46 i have in view is the 325i.

Thanks!

Sup Bro. In my opinion, the cost of maintenance is not the ish rather, the availability of the qualified mechanic to handle the mechanical issues around you.
Even though, I'm about to change the engine of my car by January, I think she served me well for the years that I've owned her.
Mine is a 325 2002 model and the fuel consumption is fair when compared with the likes of Honda and Toyotas with v6.
Pls when you are buying a Car, be pationate about what you want, that will ginger you in taking good care if her best.
More so, you rearly find fake BMW parts, and most of the parts are relatively cheap. The last time I changed a pair of my front shock absorber in my e46, i bought a Belgium type for 6k and till date I've not had any reason to change it again.

If your buying a Nigerian used, that I can't guarantee as it might have been abused by a none beema mechanic. But you can still get a good Beema mechanic you know to help you ascertain the true state of the Car.
Good luck in your quest Bro.

How much be Engine?
Mine is a 2.5ltr 6 cylinder engine and it goes for 120k. But the seller has agreed to buy my bad engine for 20k, this means, I'll only pay him 100k for the engine.
While, the small engine of 1.8ltr, which is a 4 cylinder engine goes for 100k.

120k engine. Not bad at all. Where do you fix yours, are you based in LAgos?

Good practice always buy the E46 with the 1.8 or 2 litre engine . Less wahala plus low fuel consumption compred to an L6

If the factory fitted engine was a 1.8L, then by all means replace with the same spec.

But I prefer the 2.5L though.

I won't say movement is the same. I have owned the 318 and 325. 318 have quicker acceleration from zero. they gain speed fast but begin to stall at high speeds. The 325 may be a tad slower in picking up speed but the acceleration remains constant at high speeds.

I disagree.

There is a better engine performance and power output for the 325i than the 318i.
