It's even a shame we import it at the first place where we have rich arable lands for rice cultivation that can sustain us and as well having excess for export to neighbouring countries in Africa.

For first time in years, we are eating local rice in our hood...
When u produce something in the country, it is supposed to be cheap cause it is produced. What is the importance of banning rice when rice production locally is as expensive as hell.
And out local rice is very bad, black colors. Even when u buy the highest grade. How many bags can Nigeria produce every day?

Abi oh.
Something that was banned by Jonathan as part of his excellent agricultural policy, which bubu reversed in 2015 to favour his Fulani importers.

Bubu is truly a dimwit confused mofo.

Some people will still hate Buhari even after this good gesture, tell them to go into farming now, they will be forming.
Sit down there while local rice farmers are getting richer by the day though you are free to come on nairaland and blame the president for your life miseries as usual.

you wan ban rice importation when our local farmers never get enough rice to meet demand, which will only lead to one thing, making rice more expensive and unaffordable for people like me. When dis man go get sense?
I concur

Personally, I have NOT SEEN a bag of locally grown Rice since all the hype started. I've always been seeing and eating the Imported one.

How I wish all these news about locally grown Rice is REAL such that banning the importation of rice won't cause more hardship on Nigerians.

I also wish we could all shun politics and face REALITY on this rice matter, how many of us here on Nairaland and people we know can truly testify to it that Nigeria is just 50% self sufficient.

Politics aside, How many of us have truly seen and bought the rice aside what we SEE on Television.

Is Buhari trying to act in a way this year, to cover up his failed tracks? Because,so many things can be done in the country. What has he done to solve other problems facing Nigeria?

We all know a year before election, they will act like harmless cats.

There's no point banning the importation of rice, let market forces do it's job.

It's funny how people made simple policy discussion about SE. I guess Lagos ports don't receive rice imports the way you talk. Last time I checked only land borders were closed to rice. It's going to be interesting year if buhari actually goes through with this policy.
The price of food & rice will increase until people like you who voted for Buhari and still insist that Nigeria remains one despite the rejection of Restructuring, start asking yourselves what actually influenced you guys to root for Buhari.

Why did Buhari not give thousands of graduates YOUWIN empowerment loan to help them reduce price of food through local production & processing.

If your useless Buhari had sense, he would spent 200billion naira last year to empower 20,000 graduates through YOUWIN and ensure that 2000 are rice agricultural based.
Re: Nigeria To Ban Rice Importation This Year – Buhari by Nobody: 3:50pm On Jan 01, 2018
You guys eat too much cheap rice.

Mr. President is banning the import so you guys can patronize the local ones at a higher price to show your patriotism.

My Question;
Is the Power Bike his son rode to near-death, made in Nigeria ?
