The social media is very powerful. You never can tell who is reading. His agen, manager or someone close to him could be following this thread or any other forum. Their job description goes beyond finding a club and cutting 10% of the deal, but also they engage fans to guage their pulse and real assessment of the player.

I'm not suggesting Iwobi or even Kelechi is dropped. Irrespective of their form, they sill still make the team because we don't have good subs for them. In a nation of 200 million , this is not good enough. That's why I'm worried.

Agreed without reservation.

Very objectively stated without emotive bias.

You are right, something is deeply wrong a nation of 180 million and we are struggling to get outstanding talents in our team. These players can be wilfully complacent, Why

Nobody deh follow dem drag position, this is the sad reality.

Lol funny picture but who are the people burying their head in the sand? All I have mostly read is encouragement and call for our players to improve. Believe me if we had descent replacements for the players who are currently underperforming I'll be the first to call for their inclusion but the reality on ground is you don't have any at the moment so we have to make do with what we have. Iwobi has been posting on and off performances for some time now not just of recent we can only continue to encourage alex and make him that he has to up his game same with kc

Cold undiluted truth of the matter.

I think India and China just recently developed interest for football.

India as a former colony of britain have always had interest in football. You will be surprised that they are some clubs in india that are over 100 years old.

China like other asian countries have been crazy over football especially premiership over the last couple of decades. At least I know china had a top female national team in the nineties

Bia, ChrisKels listen to me very well because I am NOT gonna say this again. You think that everyone has the time to literally live on this forum like yourself? News flash, some of us actually have gainful employments and don't have the time to come on here following every single post. Got it??

One glance at your posts and it is crystal clear that as human beings evolved some apes and some members of our species have yet to make a complete transition. You're the epitome of ignorance, the embodiment of idiocy, and allergic to logic. I think you're suffering from an Alarming Inability to Dialogue Sensibly (AIDS), and lacks the intellectual capacity to engage in a rational debate. Your presence here do nothing but drag this site down.

One look at his threads and it fuels the racist notion that Africans are dumb, Aids-infested baboons who have just climbed down from tree tops and lack the capacity to dialogue intelligently. My friend, you're a complete embarrassment to the Black race and we really need to find a way to get rid of you. Even when I was four years old, my written English was more coherent than your incoherent ranting.

Your presence tarnishes this site, pollutes what is a meeting of mature minds and obtusely destroys any constructive dialogue taking place. You resort to destructive negativity just because you do not have the intellectual capacity to follow the debate and foul the atmosphere with your intrusive, disgusting, fetid, gross, loathsome, noisome, offensive, putrid and repellant incoherent rants.

Your disoriented, irrational, disordered, muddled and inchoate mind runs riot on this site polluting, corrupting, debasing, defiling and soiling any sensible debate we are trying to have. Please leave us alone, you are a total liability. If the quality of discussion here is above your IQ level, which I doubt to be above 55, please go elsewhere. Kelechi earns £57,500 a week going by the figure quoted earlier and that’s after paying to Caeser. That’s about N27,370,000 a week in Naija money.

That figure alone is what some GPs earn annually in the UK. Kelechi can actually retire today if he wants, you can argue that but lots of people out there and I mean people like medical doctors would still be rich earning in their life time what Kelechi would earn in just one year that’s 52 weeks.

If he was your bro and he sends you the little change of about N250,000 every week to ‘maintain’, you wouldn’t be itching to slap his head instead you’d buy him gorilla glue to apply to his bench at Leicester.

I think Kelechi needs counselling and some sort of motivation. It can be quite hard for a young man like him managing his sudden wealth, fame, lots of pressures and the bad gangs of leeches around him.

If a player is improving on the pitch for his club that improvement will all things being equal be transferred to the national team. In that regard it is beneficial to the national team for players to improve.

If a player is losing competitive edge in his club it is not beneficial to the national team.

When players realise that thier club performance can impact negatively on thier national team selection. They will not take call up for granted.

The pool of talent that Nigeria is looking at is too small. Most team's with realistic World cup ambitions will test and select from at least 50 players.

I am suprised at your statement considering your indepth knowledge, that you have dismissed objective performance data as being biased. Then you further bring nationality into it Arsenal has always been a multi national team and I am certain nationality has nothing to do with it.

We should all be worried and not dismissive of objective based performance data angry or we will all be in for a rude awakening.

One thing we lack competition for places some players have no competition in the SE for thier position it seems. And feel come rain come shine they are going to Russia.

The most expensive players in the world Neymar (£195) and Coutinho (£142) played in Lagos at FIFA U-17 World Cup, Nigeria 2009, they failed to qualify from their group. How much will the likes of Onazi, Omeruo, Stanley Okoro (little Messi), Ajagun, Sani Emmanuel who represented Nigeria and finished second at the tournament cost?

No matter the deductions: tax, agent, personal physio...if he has got one, etc, he would still be earning close to £40,000 a week i.e. if the £115,000 figure is true.

Btw after after tax and national insurance deductions, the remainder goes into his account. That’s how it’s done, if there’s someone by the side tampering with the money before it gets to him, the person and his schemes would’ve been found out. No one tampers with his weekly wage. Manager and agent could get cuts from transfer fee and sign on fees I guess but not his weekly wage.

I don’t believe he earns up to £100k though.

It’s simple. You are focusing on the games he was rather quiet. And I’m focusing on the ones he was marvelous. Yes he was marvelous against Zambia and Argentina.
And I’m hopeful he brings that again and again. That’s all.

goldfish80:

I don't know what you're trying to prove. Yes he scored a goal against Zambia in his cameo and a very good 45 minutes against Argentina. Between those 2 games, he had a very quiet game against Algeria in Omduman. Before that he was benched in the double headers against Cameroun and was atrociously out of form against South Africa.
He hasn't been that marvelous for the super eagles. I want to make that very clear to you

DrLikita12:

Better than a championship move imo.
The most important thing is playing time.

I will answer your question with a question

Why do all top performing players relish coming to the EPL

The Portuguese league does not give you the same level of competitive edge and challenge like the EPL. The money is also not on the same level too.

The Championship can be a stepping stone to the EPL. Cavaliero, Helder Costa and Rueben Neves are all Portuguese international players the first two left Benfica, then joined Monaco and Neves left Porto they are all now at Wolves Fc in the championship. Furthermore they are all under 23 so quite young.

There has been talk of Ebuehi coming to Norwich from Dan Haag and if the Portuguese league is a better option.

The Portuguese league is considerably rated higher than the Eredivisie. In this regard it's a step up, wages in the Portuguese league are low the football is good very good. However, the Eredivisie is rated 12 in Europe has the highest goals to game ratio in the top twenty leagues in Europe i.e. much easier to score. Is that league better than the English Championship

My biased as some would say opinion is that it's not. In terms of career progression the Championship offers more if he can prove himself as top quality. Then he will be playing in the EPL next season.

Obviously you haven't been following events closely.

The other day, I commented about Iwobi's poor performance against Liverpool. The reactions I got was that Iwobi was being criticized unfairly ( there were even pointers to sour grapes for dropping England for Nigeria). Ever since, I've noticed some kind of over indulgence and misguided zeal to defend Iwobi at all cost. Someone even posted last night that he's on the look out for Arsenal fans calling out Iwobi after another flat performance against Nottingham Forest.

Any smart person will figure where this is all heading to knowing the history of another Nairaland fan's favorite here.

I am in complete and unreserved agreement with you.

those videos are that of the NNL and basically NNL doesn't drive much supporters like the NPFL, I v gone to stadiums to watch both and I can tell u u can get at least 3k in any I NPFL match centre but u would struggle to get 500 at any NNL match centre.

Generally I still think publicity for our league is low, both on broadcast media and social media and the club's themselves are to blame I know some twitter handles of NNL and even NPFL sides that wouldn't update their page for their next match and they would only do so days after the last match.

I think the point above is y NPFL gets more crowd than NNL cuz the publicity the former gets is more higher than the latter.

the first thing to do is PUBLICISE the league, I believe this will bring fans. I never knew I had a course mate who had interests in the local leagues until I told him ikorodu United were playing Go round at the gateway stadium that Sunday. I was surprised he asked me not to forget to remind him whenever I'm leaving for the stadium and we went together.

Now imagine the number of fans who would v gone to see the games if only they knew.

but then I v a cousin who despite my preachings never followed me to the Osogbo township stadium to see osun united play he x aware of the league but he has a bad perception of it. now how do u convert this kind of a person? u need to repackage and increase the volume of publicity. there is this theory that no matter how poor a media content is "constant and consistent exposure of it to media users will make them get used and make it interesting to them".

my cousin always use the South African league as an example he has said it v4 that he would rather pay 5k to subscribe to dstv and watch the SA psl than spend 100naira to get a cab to watch NNL n NPFL matches at the stadium.

long story short, let's repackage the league we can start with the NTA deal advertise upcoming games with colourful graphics and the best goals from previous match centres like the epl does. I'm 90% sure if dx x done for at least 2 seasons there would be massive increase in followership of the league

let the publicity be consistent even when there is no match until weekend. on TV, Radio (the radio stations even do more of this than TV and newspapers ) and newspapers

Security should be increased then the quality of play should improve.

if u doubt that there x still interest in the league watch MFM home games on YouTube from 2016, watch Rangers etc even Remo stars had more fans that I tot. I saw vip stand with 500naira tickets filled, some brought their families.

during my visit to a remo stars home game, I heard a guy say at the popular side stand that "this is our league, this I can spend my money to watch not a league where my existence is not known to them". u v to see dx guys discuss about Abiola babe's, gateway united etc

Many are willing to come but they need a little PUSH and conviction

I am impressed.

I already have a feeling this topic should have made front page so that more people who have negative perception about our league will have a change of mind.

Problems have already been identified and workable solutions raised.

My eyes are opened the more as I stay glued to wonderful suggestions.
I've sent you a mail

I would advise him to stay in holland so he can continue to enjoy first team football. Hopefully a good performance at the world cup should see his stock rise which could mean better offers from other clubs.

If he goes to benfica there's no guarantee he'll get playing time or that he would have settled down while he might get good playing time I wouldn't want the physicality of the championship to cause any unnecessary injury to him so close to the world cup

I get the impress that people do not know how physically taxing the Championship can be.

In this regard I appreciate your point of view.

However, if he improves and stays injury free Nigeria will reap the benefit of that improvement. Indeed he may end up shading Aina and Shehu to the World cup.
