A new HIV infections in Ghana have recorded an alarming 70.15% increase in just one year.

The figure increased from 12,000 new infections in 2015 to 20,148 in 2016.

The increase in new infections is a matter of concern because Ghana recorded significant gains in the key target areas of ending HIV/ AIDS for five years.


The figures were contained in a report by the National AIDS Control Programme.

The report also indicates that the Volta Region and Brong Ahafo Region topped the chart of HIV/AIDS prevalence.


The findings were revealed at the Commission’s two-day annual strategic planning meeting.

The Ghana AIDS Commission is, therefore, asking Ghanaians to be extra careful in order not to contract the deadly disease.

Director-General of the Commission, Ambassador Dr Amokowa Blay Adu-Gyamfi made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to voluntarily test for the virus.

There was nothing about 2017 mentioned, so for the life of ne, I cannot imagine why a song that became popular in 2017 would be blamed for a rise in HIV in 2016.
