In a scene reminiscent of the sounds of drums for war in the 1995 Walt Disney animation Pochahontas, Nigeria is gradually heading down the path of civil war. This coming just after the defeat of Boko Haram (at least in the technically they hold no territory), which in itself burst into the scene just after the end of the Niger Delta insurgency.

The question i ask myself is : Who or what are these forces relentlessly trying to provoke a civil war in Nigeria? Now the media will say its the Fulani herdsmen and farmers bladabladabla. Who runs these death squards? A standard AK-47 rifle will take you back N170,000 in the black market. How can desperately poor Fulani herdsmen afford expensive assault rifles? Who pays the militia herdsmen who make up the Fulani herdsmen. Where is the Nigerian army? the powerful army that crushed the Shite El-Zakzaki sect and Pro Biafra agitators, while at the same time pummeling Boko Haram is incospiciously absent.

Just today 21 January 2018, it was reported that a helicopter suspected to be loaded with arms and ammunition was reported to have landed in a village called Jibu, located along the River Benue, near ibi, in zwukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. Senior Special Assistant to Governor Darius Ishaku on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Dan-Abu said that the arms and ammunition were allegedly meant for a militia group that might have been planning an attack on Taraba villages.

If this is public knowledge why hasnt the Nigerian army been deployed to the restive areas. Nigeria has a strong gun control policy, whereby the possession of firearms without liscence carries severe penalties. Why are cattle herders allowed to bear arms?

This is an eerie reminder of the unmarked helicopters reportedly seen delivering packages in the Sambisa forest to.....you know. Or the incident of two caucasian men that emerged from a crash helicopter and reportedly set bundles of U.S Dollar bills on fire before leaving bugging out of the crash site.

Nigerians are not naturally of the warrior class. Nigerians are effusive with a zest for life. We love to party and have fun, i mean....despite lack of government support for Nigerians, we have still been able to beat the odds of frequent power outages, fuel shortage, political instabilities (Boko Haram) as well as other civil unrests to become Africa’s biggest entertainers not just in music but in Film as well as Fashion.

Its like a parralel universe. But certainly, somebody at the moment is trying to provoke a civil war in Nigeria for over a decade. Someone wants a civil war. Some powers that be want a civil war. There never give up. The security situation in Nigeria is like a hydra headed monster. Cut off one head another pops out.

Even though Boko Haram has been flushed out of their ladt major stronghold in the Sambisa forest,  theinsurgency, after a brief lapse, witnessed an increase in suicide attacks, and attacks on military units. All these, and other adventures, ensured that Nigeria’s security apparatus had their hands full all year, keeping us mirred and focused in conflicts rather than focus on development and rebuilding our infrastructure.

The pastoral conflict is now morphing into a deadly threat, with with 470 victims killed as a result of cattle rustling, and 1,425 killed in attacks involving Fulani herdsmen.

The average number of fatalities per attack was high at 30 deaths per attack by Fulani herdsmen, while the average for cattle rustling stood at 39 per attack. There were four times as many attacks on communities by herdsmen than incidents of cattle rustling. Unlike the Boko Haram insurgency, the majority of the deaths in the pastpral conflict are not the belligerent herdsmen, but residents of the attacked communities.

Now we are quick to blame corruption and incompetence, but even gross ineptitude reaches a saturation point then common sense takes over. This is beyond government incompetence. These conflicts that keeps popping out of thin air with military precision is organized and planned.

The reaction of the Nigerian state to the pastoral conflicts in particular, brings to the fore the question of what value the state places on the lives of average citizens, the people they were elected to serve and protect. We had, in 2016, multiple situations where some groups killed other Nigerians with impunity, justified their murders openly, and the government did little or nothing to punish the killers or put an end to the killings.

The real question I ask myself is: who are these people who are trying to provoke the civil war?

So there is money to finance civil war.
But no money to build roads, hospitals, schools and to pay salaries.

There is no mystery.
Elements in the FG are complicit in the nonsensical herdsmen saga.

It’s a good question.
Anybody that understands international geopolitics would see that a very big hand is definitely involved.

Me I’m not interested in who the big hand is because the big hand can only achieve its aim when small hands (our failed politicians) give the big hands(The Western powers and Middle East) the arsenal required to perpetuate evil.

It’s sad that while countries are discussing the fourth industrial revolution and all its attributes like AI, Machine learning, Driverless cars, etc, we are allowing ourselves to be controlled and manipulated by dying men who care nothing for the future generations.

It’s very possible that the powers that be are looking for a battle ground like Syria and they have long chosen Nigeria as thier most ideal location and thier plots keep failing. I think they underestimate the Nigerian capacity for useless resilience and resistance to pain and suffering.

A more likely factor is that there certain resources most likely of immense value in the future that lay underneath Nigeria/Cameroon/Niger axis that we know nothing about but is well known to the powers that be.
Many more likely scenarios but surely there is an orchestrated plan to Balkanize the country that keeps failing.

Yeah, some foreign hands are definitely behind all these attacks. Maybe they want a complete separation of the country or some kind of revolution. But the question left unanswered is, can we revolt?

It smacks of Ignorance to describe Fulanis herdsmen as poor because in reality there is no sub set richer than they are , their cattle Business alone has a turnover of more than 2 trillion Naira a year (that's being modest) add extra funds they get from perpetrating robberies and ransome from kidnapping then you will see they can even afford to buy a squadron of helicopter gunship if they wish ...

Going by your username no surprise your remark. You guys keep trying to relive the glorious days of Saladin in the middle ages. You refuse to evolve. To you life revolve around conquest, war, conquest.....that you will support rather than condemn stop stuoid acts of barbarity bears testament to the fact that you all have mental poverty. A trillion dollars will not change the poverty of the mind. The Fulani heardsmen are desperately poor, even if they kidnap victims and by a squadron if helicopters they are poor beyond comprehension. Look around you you, the world is moving forward, yet northern Nigeria remains the most impoverished part of the whole of Africa despite northerners ruling Nigeria for the vast majority of her existence. Nigeria is trying desperately to move forward, you are trying super desperately to bring the country backward to your level. Shame on you for your lack of sensitivity to the plight of the people who lost their lives to such acts of corwardice and stupid it. I'm sure it makes you feel proud of your boys.

Typical attitude of blaming others but not yourself.

How about abdicating the responsibility of governing Nigeria to foreigners (Singaporeans, British and Japanese)? This will be better than continuous blame after nearly 60 years of independence!

A couple that hates each other and fights constantly cannot raise a successful family. Nigeria, at its lowest ebb with endless conflicts have still managed to become Africa's economic powerhouse with a soft power unmatched on the continent. All at the back of 80 million people down South. Do you have any idea how rich and powerful Nigeria will become of the North is as developed and educated as the South? We will have a $2 trillion economy. Don't you find it bizarre that in the 21 Century a country's parliament will be deliberating on allocating ground so cows for the north can feed? Are you kidding me?

That our leaders are failing does not mean we have to turn a blind eye to external forces engineering unrests in the country. They've done it to Syria, they've destroyed Libya, Nigeria next. What does Nigeria and Libya have in common? Libya still has Africa's largest oil reserves .Nigeria comes in second.

For those saying the herdsmen can afford the AK's, Fine, maybe they can but an observant individual will note the sophistication & class of some weapons can only and i repeat can only be acquired by big time dealers with links in the government & international black market. Have you seen the armoured tanks, the damned anti aircraft guns &mounted batteries especially used by the boko haram, don't let me even mention the helicopters . Some big powers wants this Nigeria to be a war zone like syria, they are just feeling around for the right moment. He who control the largest african country resources has the keys to the whole continent.

Very well said bro. We forget the container load of weapons shipped from Iran consificated by Customs not long ago. Imagine how many have slipped through undetected. How about the French chartered cargo plane tha twas forced to make an emergency landing in Kano International Airport. Airport officials request to search the aircraft was resisted, leading to security personnel arresting the pilots. The search revealed lots of weapons and ammunition more associated with militia's than national armies. This was discovered because of a forced emergency landing.

The current fashion of the so-called Fulani herdsmen is the continuation of the uncompleted 1804 Jihad. Sokoto Caliphate was unable to penetrate certain section of Nigeria. However with end of the civil war which planted them into the center of power in Nigeria due to the idiocy of their known slaves, they are trying to rekindle the Fulani myth of being unstoppable.

obviously you have no idea about how wealthy is the Fulani herder.they control 10 000 000 herds and you are asking how they can buy Ak47 that is playing in the black market from Mali,Niger and Libya through porous borders of Nigeria.
The Funding for bokoharam and its resolve to be affiliated with isis is totally different from Fulani militia mercenaries who strike targets.

They can achieve this with the help if foreign powers. It's the British who made them believe they were born to rule. Funny in 1956 the north was planning of secede. After independence the rich north, the economic engine of Nigeria were planning a plebiscite to secede from the impoverish South. The discovery of oil in Olobiri and the civil war changed all that. How such a wealthy fairly socially developed and promising with its groundout pyramids and heavy industries in cutie like Kano and functional railways in Kaduna morphed into the most impoverished part of Africa within two generations beats my imagination.

Oh give me a break !! If owning large numbers of herds is what you call wealth, heaven knows what poverty is like in the north. He there are wealthy Fulanis, but this is beyond just buying a couple of AK-47's , this is organized forward positioning of forces using heardsmen as Trojan horses.

What does Nigeria and Libya have in common? Libya still has Africa's largest oil reserves .Nigeria comes in second.

This is the main issue. Tell me which country that does not have enemies trying to engineer crises within its territory? However, does that mean the leaders nay citizens should not be doing the right thing?

You are dismissive if foreign complicity because so far those feeling the effect are the unfortunate 30,000 + citizens up north thats lost their lives to Boko Haram, or the hundreds of victims to these herdsmen. The killing is gradually moving South.

@ OP, you lost it when you wrote "Desperate Fulani Herdsmen" I hope you know how much a full grown cow cost now? These herdsmen are among some of the richest people if I could call it that...selling just two cows could give them a nice and agile AK47 and trust me there are videos on YouTube showing these so called desperate poor heardmen brandishing their acquired AK47 if you care to check and do some simple research before caming here to spill your ignorance.
Peace..!!!
