Interesting, you really made a good point.
That's why am advocating for the law that will mandate them to pay from their declared EPS, minimum of 40% and maximum as they agreed to their investors, by so doing, we shall know the really earning of the companies. That will make the companies to come clean with their really earning per a share, per annum.
It will go a long way to bring sanity to the market, and place the companies where the belong, according to their value.
Companies have their dividend payment policies, insurance companies are only running legalized 419 business in Nigeria

Which company is good to drag down to 1kobo?

I don't do insurance companies, most of them don't pay out 10% of their earnings as dividends. The return of equity from most of them is very low.

But some guys are making good money from stocks they understand who have low PE, UBA and Access at a PE of less than 3 and a dividend yield of about 25% was a good buy.
You exactly got what I was thinking.
NEM was the first on my mind.
That was my first lesson that p/e has to be approached with a third eye.
If a good company has a bad outing and you have a feel about it's capabilities like the GTBs, Dangote index, you can pounce.
But pounce on a porcupine like the insurance sisters and you will scream in pain.
Occasionally, well managed companies experience drought, not through bad management.
That is the one time p/e make good sense. Like the forex crises recently.
From next week we will start seeing very great p/es from very carefully mismanaged companies. The sharp price decreases will put this great parameter to the test..... grin

I don't do theory. In the stock market you lose some, you gain some. But your losses should not be more than your gains.

I sold my all my Oando shares for between N22 to N25 when the figures didn't add up, that was before the COP deal , i even wrote a petition against the company to NSE and SEC.

I didn't have Oceanic, I sold intercontinental Bank for N42 when I found out that the early couldn't support the price.

The only Bank stock that I lost money was Skye Bank, which I bought at over N7 and sold for about between N1.40 and N1.60
Yes o. In our environment here, price movement is based on sentiment, as indicated by the daily offer and bids. The majority are not looking at pe and eps and etc. Irrespective of bull or bear period. For example, study the price appreciation of Maybaker to see what I'm saying. The company has nothing you can look at. If I mention the others, I will incur wrought of some powerful people

My dear, they don't use the money for the benefit of the shareholders. That is why I'm an advocate of sharing everything as dividend. You can't manage bthe money better than I do. So don't start telling me that my investment is still well.manage.

Now if they say that my investment is still well managed by them, what if I sell, what happens?

Remember that they gave me part of the EPS as dividends and retained the others for me. Can I legally go there and collect it (following Emma's line of thought).

Omo, na wetin bird chop e go carry fly ooo.

That’s the joy of stock market. No pain, no gain grin

There’s no need to apologize for that. We all have paid the price sometimes in our life during our early stage of investing in NSE grin
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Coolcash1: 5:30pm On Jan 28, 2018
With the 1k rule kicking off tomorrow, we might see a lot of penny stock companies that have remained stagnant voluntarily delisting from the NSE... grin

Be warned...

Be warned...
Delisting will be expensive for them, shareholders will say they want to be paid a minimum of 50k by the management.

They should allow market forces to determine the price and future of their badly managed companies.

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by emmanuelewumi(m):
During Bank phb era there was this advert one day cars will be powered by water.
The bank was a bank of endless possibilities.
One of the possibilities was that investors lost a fortune.
The staff corporative of Shell invested heavily in the bank , they even had a representative on the board.

What about International Energy Insurance plc.

As a matter of fact, hot stocks no be am at all.

That is why you don't need to look at these as shareholders. Just take your dividends and move. If there is price appreciation, collect that one too and move on.

I'm a dividend guy. If price appreciation enter for me, I go jaaaaaaaa

Retained earning help the company grow, while dividend payment help the shareholders get returns on their investment, and it's the major reason investors invest.

If company keep retaining 100% of their investment over the years without dividend payment, that company need to be question.

What if they keep retaining and something goes wrong with that company, and their value drop drastically? The investor at this point has nothing to fall back on.

In fact NSE, should make rule that will mandate companies to pay at least certain percent of their quoted annual EPS to their shareholders, every year.

Some companies might manipulate their result by declaring fake high EPS. Then tell me what they are retaining, while some will retain, and uses it for their personal business outside that of company own business.

The truth still remains that, what you eat, is only what you gain
FCMB is so good at that. I expect them repeating same by the time FY17 comes out.
