Pls again, which hospital are you using in Virginia, I will be Maryland by April. Most of the hospitals that are within my budget are very far from my host, like 3 hours drive. So am thinking if you could share your hospital details, hopefully it’s within by budget and proximity friendly. Thank you, sorry for bugging you pls

The hospital is also almost 3 hours from MD.Name of hospital (Henricho doctor’s hospital)

It's the longest standing since the creation of this thread and there are always patients from Nigeria. Prices straightforward and no surprises.

No, you won't be allowed into the interview with her.

Hi @omodadi2 please I went through your transcript and I was really worried about the refusal.
So I went back to your old transcript when you got the visa. You said to the vo that your budget was 15k after he asked you if u were in contact with a doctor which you said yes . And his next question was how much will this cost you and you said 15k USD. So my question is this , did you show him the budget sheet showing everything was 15k ? Did the vo understand that the trip would cost 15k or did he assume that the hosp bill would cost 15k. Cos that might be what the woman saw and was wondering why she saw 2500 on Ur receiot. I don't know if I make any sense just thinking aloud.

Note that if you refuse to put his name on BC, you will still need proof that you have full custody. Court papers.

That's not true!

A woman can choose to not put the father's name on her child's birth certificate. However, it might become a problem if the woman wants to take the child's father to court for not paying child support.

No ma’am. Not true. You don’t need to prove custody if the birth certificate has no father indicated on it. The only time you might need court papers proving custody is when there is a father listed on the birth certificate.

I've been a long follower of this thread from the journey to have my first baby in 2016 and now my second. I want to immensely thank everyone who has contributed to this thread. I've learnt so much and refered many people.
Now straight to my own experience:
I got a B1/B2 visa for a conference which I attended in 2015. This visa was issued in London. I also used the same visa for childbirth in May 2016. My POE was Houston. I was grilled for almost 2 hours. I believe it was that tough because I was caught using my phone at the secondary inspection ( which you shouldn't be doing) After the CBP guy finished ransacking my phone and checking my documents, I was stamped in.
Now to my second missionary journey, I had to apply for another visa because the previous one had expired. I could not do Dropbox because the visa was issued in London and I was reapplying from Nigeria. At first I was so disappointed because I was not ready for another interview but I'm so happy I did. My interview started with the VO cancelling my previous visa without prejudice since it had expired. He asked me all the generic questions (purpose of visit, why I chose to give birth in the US, dr's correspondence, burden of proof, where I work and proof, payslip) At the end I was issued a visa.
I came in to Houston yesterday with Klm at 35 weeks. My hospital demanded 15k for fit to fly letter which I refused to lay for and I went straight to port health on the morning of my trip. At port health, the nurse was insisting I was about 38 weeks gone high I knew was not true. I knew she was saying it because she wanted money smh. After much back and forth with her, we (my husband and I) paid her 2k extra in addition to the 1500 fee and she issued us the certificate. At Klm checking I was not even asked for the fit to fly so we basically wasted 3k5. But I'm not even angry because if I had paid 15k at my hospital it would have been worse. The flight to Amsterdam was just basic. The food was bleh. After a four hour layover at Amsterdam, we continued to Houston.
When we got to Houston after 10 hours, got straight to immigration where the queue was long but pretty much moved fast. When it got to my turn I got to the CBP officer with the following transcript:
CBP: Hello, why are you in The US?
Me: I'm here for childbirth
CBP: You mean you are pregnant?
Me: Yes I am
CBP: How many times have you been here?
Me: Twice, in 2015 for a conference and in 2016 to have my first child.
CBP: Can I see proof of payments for your first child?
Me Handed over all $0 balances (hospital, Dr, Paed, anaesthesia)
CBP: So was everything up to $10k? Because this looks very cheap.
Me: it was more than $10k before I got my applicable discount usually given to self pay patients.
CBP: So you don't have insurance here...
Me: No I don't.
CBP: So how are you paying?
Me: I have $4k on me with $13k in my Wells Fargo account and $10k in my Nigerian USD Dom account. I can show you the statements if you like.
CBP: Let me see them (I hand the statements over to him at this point) I see here that these are November statements
Me: My USD accounts are accounts I don't use unless I'm outside Nigeria. I can't quickly open up my online statements if you want further proof.
CBP: No problem. Just to remind you you are not entitled to Medicaid....
Me: I'm absolutely aware
CBP: Great. I'll be stamping you in for 6 months, have a great day mama
Me: Have a great day, and thanks

The whole process took approximately 4 minutes.
My first dr's appointment is Feb 1st.

I'm so happy I had to go for that visa interview whe're I had the opportunity to declare my intentions of childbirth because I know it made my entry a huge breeze compared to my last time. There's nothing that gives you confidence like knowing you did not lie and your intent is as clear as day.
Houston POE is highly unpredictable though. You just keep praying for favour.

In the spirit of giving back....
I had my visa about a Year ago just after my wedding and I informed the VO i was traveling for both tourism and medical reasons. She dnt question further and visa was granted.

Travelled with Qatar airways in Nov. Was referred to port health. After her measurement she records 31weeks and i was actually 34wks and 6days however my bump wadnt so big.
Flight was uneventful, food not friendly too. Bought my ticket through ajala.com and was issued hotel vouchers for my layover at doha. Was treatef nicely by airline staff too.

Atlanta was my POE and final destination. The entry officer asked my purpose of vistit in the us and i replied childbirth. This was where my village people showedup. He referred me to secondary inspection. After waiting for what seemed like eternity i was called in. The officer reiterTed the fact that since i dexlared medical reasons earlier he was fine his only issue was i said florida... so y are u in atlanta. After much talk i finally mentioned i had paid my bills that was when he finally smiled amd said maam you should have said that since. He went ahead to see my receipts from doc and hosp and appointment confirmation letters and stamped me foe 6mths. He tried making a converdation abt y nigerians vandalise pipelines bt i wasnt interested in his gist so he kept quiet. He was nice enough to help wheel all my bags to agric cos i said i had dried bitter leaves with me. He stayed with me and saw me off to the exit door.

Hosp... 4325usd
Doc.....1500usd
Pead.....100usd inc vaccines
Nig passport was exp and gotten in abt 1week
Us passport was gotten in 48hrs(no exp)
3copies of BC was gotten 1week after birth for 35usd. However another copy was mailed to me weeks after.
SSN was gotten 5days after birth too.

Hosp staff were extremely friendly
Although my water broke at 38wks and stYed a whole day at the hosp b4 delivery i wasnt charged.

I also dnt use epidural and was refunded 425usd.

In all spent 10weeks and we sre back home. All thanks to God and every1 here who was generous with their info.

Lastly hosp was emory and doc was Dr tate

Tips For Giving Birth in the USA
I have some questions. Please anyone who have had the same experience should let me know what to do. I visited the States last in 2015 and renewed my visa in 2016. I was given 2 years again which expires in August 2018. The current situation now is that I am pregnant and my visa will expire in August which is before due date. My Nigerian passport will also expire in November 2018. I want to have my baby in the US. I have the B1/B2 visa. Does anyone know what I can do to extend my stay and it wouldn't affect me revisiting whenever I intend to? How will i renew my passport if it eventually gets expired while i am still in the States? Any affordable hospitals in Texas? I have a family in Dallas area. But I am open to travelling to another state if it will be more affordabe.

When is the best time I travel knowing that my visa expires in August? How do I apply for my child's passport and how long does it take to get it?

Lastly my mum will also be coming with me but her visa expires the same time as mine. Can her's be extended too?

Any useful information will be helpful. Thank you in advance!

Did it mean that IF you hadn't paid your hospital bills for Atlanta, you would have been sent back. And is it an issue if u declare Florida at Interview and decide to head to Atlanta eventually.

Hi house,
I plan to travel with my hubby but my fear is that he does not have a job at the moment. Do you think it matters?
My salary is a little above 'n4million per year and it is my first time traveling anywhere.
Do you think 10k dollars will satisfy vo as burden of proof?

You really made sense o. Maybe the VO then just put it down that my medical bill will be 15k while I meant the total cost of my trip.

Thanks for the heads up.
Means I will sure have to correct that in my next interview. But come to think of it, every budget we do are just estimates, we don't end up spending exactly. More so, 2300 wasn't the total I spent even for medical bill. I really appreciate!
