"Nonsense, can you imagine?" Eva said as she cut the phone, she left the bewildered Clara staring at her phone as she flung it on the chair.
"What happened?" Clara asked gently, whenever Eva was like this she was very unpredictable.
"Can you imagine, Emmanuel went behind my back to petition for the land. Despite the law on ground that stipulates that I must agree before he put up any form of contract to the government's table. He lied behind my back and he is now saying that I should help him seal it." she shuddered and sat on the sofa. Clara winced that chair would be crying now if it had a life.
"But that is illegal now..." she said cautiously, she didn't know much about law and government, those were never her forts unlike machines and technology.
"Illegal! No its downright criminal. I am going to get to Geneva, tomorrow and see the UN board on this. A sanction should be placed on the government, this is utterly inhumane, do you realise how many people are there? They may not have good conditions but they are easily located by NGOs and welfare groups. How would they be reached now if their only home is taken away?" Eva stood up, she had almost exhausted her holiday and she felt even more tired and stressed.
In fact she wanted to run off to somewhere, block everyone and hide from her responsibilities. She was tired already.
"I think you should take all this easy. Cant you guys come up with some sort of compromise?" Clara said and almost shut up because of the look Eva sent her way.
"Compro...wetin? Its as if you were not aware what Chris did to satellite town in Ikeja and computer village. He practically branded the place and stamped his signature all over it.
Did you go to Garki? You should have seen the traders that were sent out. If he should take over the Wastelands with the wealth in his hands, he will take over the world oh." she said, as she picked the phone already typing a message to Brenda.
"I think you are over reacting here, Chris may have enough money to buy up half of Nigeria since he is currently ranking top five richest in the world and his investments are so vast. He is still same old Chris, he should still be logical and I dont see anything wrong in what he did in Lagos. He rather helped to channel the innovations going on there and also in Garki those traders were not his responsibility. They were the government's." Clara tried to be the one with a clear head but Eva gave her the you-have-betrayed-me look.
"Really, so you too have joined Emma abi?" she shot back.
"Stop being stubborn and irrational, if the past is still affecting your thoughts you had better let go Eva. You should realise that people depend on you so you should think straight. Yes Chris is money but try to channel the whole thing for the benefit of those people. Do you really think they want to live like that forever? What if he creates more jobs, turns the place to a mini computer land and establishes a tech village there huh? Won't their lives be better?" Clara had to yell, her head hurt but she couldn't stand seeing her friend waste her energy on this.
Eva cooled down and looked sheepishly for a moment, before sighing. Hot tears filled her eyes as she tried to step back on her decisions, Yes Emma betrayed her but there were other ways to deal with it.
Clara was right, she was thinking of all the deep running bad blood between herself and Chris and how she wouldn't want him to win this case so that she could see the defeat in his face.
And she was throwing away a grand opportunity for the lives of so many people.
Thank heavens for Clara who had a clear head at most times.
"I'm so sorry I shouted at you like that. Its just that..." Eva cut her off, ignoring her hurt look. She took her purse and kissed her god son goodbye it was time to make a difference whether it itched Chris in the right place or not was his business.
She left the place, still deep in thought and not a word of farewell from herself to Clara.

The phase of trying hard to get Chris to agree with her had never come and it will never, not now, not ever.
Eva sat up as she looked at the files, how on earth would she do this? A compromise, where would she start, what if Chris became a sneaky snake and dumped the entire contract.
What if he decided to throw them out without any consideration and provision for those homeless people.
What would be their fate? She stood from the plush chair and went to the bookshelves, travelling to Geneva would totally be a waste of time.
Despite her being an ambassador in the UN, she wasn't powerful enough to nullify the contract. Maybe a divine intervention, and something about thunder striking Chris while he was with the latest mistress.
That thought caught her and she burst into laughter, Chris roasted on a woman, that would be so like karma.
She picked out former cases that looked like the one at hand, consulting them should help her out.

Meanwhile,the one behind all her headaches and possible heartaches was seated in the newly constructed high rise building.
He and Adam had just signed the contract of supplying over thousands of mobile devices and spare parts with China and then bridging it with South Africa.
This one would further expand his empire and the bond between the two countries. He just needed that Wasteland and that lousy girl Evaline Nneka Prescott wasn't going to get in his way.
He had already taken the first steps, the next would be to complete this whole contract and then he would get the approval.
Then on to pulverising that waste and then chasing those scums away.
They could leave on the street for al he cared and Eva or no one can stop him. She even sent a proposal, who did she think she was deceiving he was already winning this, so she should move her damn charity campaign to another place.
His cellphone rang again, and he looked at it. Did his mother not realize not he wasn't interested in marriage. He could get any girl he wanted and even more than one though he knew that no one married two wives to show off.
Two equal trouble, double trouble.

That moment when you realise that you have been cheated, the way you feel, you boil. Eh eh that's how Chris felt.
He sat down with the government officials and waited for the arrival of Eva, she had proved to be a stumbling block.
Eva came in and the only thought in his head was to bend her over the desk and give her a wild ride.
She came in, wearing a black mini-skirt with a slit and a white turtleneck.
She wore a golden watch and her nails were glistening, and the scent of strawberries and sandalwood pervaded the air and the scent shot to his groin.
He leaned down on the table to hide his erection, he embarrassingly remembered the first time she had caused this.
She didn't hesitate to begin the meeting and she coughed whenever his attention went to her legs.
She was wearing sheer pantyhose, and black high heels. Her hair was cut at the chin, and it fit her face.
He licked his lips and suddenly the warning of his mother came to mind, his father was already admitted and he had a slight stroke, and the old man had made a dying request.
He should marry quickly and to make it more bitter to taste it had to be Eva. She leaned against the swivel chair as she called up figures, they were discussing the advantage of the wasteland.
"Miss Prescott, we have a tray of delicious treats and coffee." the minister said as they decided to take a break.

"So you are getting somewhere?" he asked as he watched her eating a slice of buttered croissant.
Her tongue darted around as she licked the butter on her hand, for a moment he was speechless and his throat went dry.
All the blood went straight to his groin and it grew to a rather impressive size that got Eva's attention.
"Seriously, you pervert how could you? We are in the national office for crying out loud, not a club or a hotel." she said scrunching her face in disgust.
It was like deja vu, when she was little and how the wrestling match ended well for the both of them.
The past images strengthened the bulge in his trousers and he decided to get himself under control before the remaining board came to join them.
Eva stuck out her tongue, childishly at him before she ate up the snack in her hand.
"So I saw the proposal, I have nothing to lose or gain if I actually throw them out." he said as he downed the chilled ginger drink.
"Throw who out?" she said as she arched her brow, she was in the middle of chewing a crab cake and it took all his restraint not to tug at the half sticking out of her tongue with his mouth.
But he knew that once that began, it was loss of self control and he withdrew as he watched the cake dance prettily in her mouth.
"The dwellers of the Wasteland like you call them, there is nothing binding me. It isn't their legal ground and they wouldn't benefit me instead they may end up as liabilities." he said as he took another glass.
"Really? What kind of liability would that be Mr Ani? You have so much money that you could single handedly build all the roads in West Africa, why the complaint here?" she asked as she crossed her arms, the outline of her bra showed and while she was talking, Chris was mystified by the movement of her chest as she took deep breaths.
"Chris seriously are you that...needy. Why on earth are you staring at my chest?" she huffed angrily.
"Well you have a more impressive chest now than then." he said simply.
Eva was caught between thanking him or slapping him, instead she shrugged and sipped her coffee.
"Okay, I will help them out. If you help me out too." he said and you should have seen Eva's face as she beamed happily.
"What do you want me to do?" she said as she sat beside him, he had left the table in favor of the chairs.
"My father is currently in the hospital..." she gasped as he spoke and quickly she whispered her apologies.
"The only way to get the man back on his feet was stop him from worrying. And the major reason he is worried is that according to him I need to settle down."he said and Eva nodded, showing she was listening and he should continue.
"So I need a wife in three days." he said, at this Eva burst into laughter. Three days which woman did that.
"Sorry I dont think I can find a wife in such a short time." she said as she stopped laughing.
"You may not need to, because she is here." he said, Eva gave him a sharp look before deciding to play along.
"Really so how does she look like? Because there are four women here." she said, and brushed her hair back.
"hmm... Let me see, she's fun, quite short but extremely curvy, a good handful and very eager too, she has that piercing grey eyes and her hair is a lovely dark color ." he said, and Eva squeezed her nose thoughtfully before she turned to him to say she saw no woman.

There was no way, Chris was going to get her to marry him in just three days, he couldn't even get her to marry her in forever.
She sneered at him, "Seriously! You want to place the lives of thousands of people on this. You must be joking." she said as she smoothed her skirt.
"Well, Mr Lombago, I just wanted to inform you that Miss Prescott and I have reached an agreement. We will be sending our engagement invitation very soon." he said as the Minister for works approached them.
"What da..." Eva's eyes shot up and she gave him an incredulous look.
She was too stunned to say anything at first, then the short man had offered his congratulations. She decide to protest.
"Are you kidding me Chris? This is not what I asked for. I haven't even considered this, why on earth are you acting like this?" she said as she tried to stop herself from slapping him.
"Come and see me in my office then." he said and he left to the worktable.
Eva prayed that whoever was talking would round up on time. By the time the meeting ended, she had left for her office.
It wasn't until the next day, when Chris sent her a messenger, that she decided to see him.

She arrived at the sky rise building not knowing what she would expect. She had decide to dress as modestly as she could because anything on a woman's body could distract Chris and he had a perchant for staring at her body than her face.
The kind secretary helped her through the office, they had both taken the elevator, and the middle aged lady was a very friendly woman, her brown hair was dusted with grey hair at the edges and a pair of glasses rested on her nose.
She was shown a seat and a brief "He will be with you shortly." before Mrs Matthews left, that was her name.
The office was elegance and taste magnified, there was a robot buzzing at the corner with a humanoid look, the blue eyes scanned some documents while the other parts were typing, printing and searching things on the web. She was so stunned, it was the first of its type and she heard it was Adam, his business partner that invented it.
She heard the click of the door and she turned to see Chris in a pristine white shirt, gold tie and navy blue trousers. Their eyes met and she swallowed.
Eva looked at him, as he sauntered towards her. She tried to fold her skirt, as he eyed her.
"They said you were looking for me." she asked, as she flinched. His eyes were dancing with amusement.
"The they dont have a name, well let me see, I called you here cause I want to see you." he said as he sat back on the executive chair.
"What is it?" she asked unperturbed as she stood from the visitors' lounge chair and took her seat in front of him.
"Well for starters, our dear parents want us married and now as you know with my father's diagnosis we have to go with. I'm sure that you remember that in a few days now we'll be man and wife." he explained as he rubbed his beard.
"I'm sorry, I thought we had been through. I cannot marry you, not even on such a short notice. Our parents thoughts do not make a happy marriage. Please I cannot be dwelling on the past, if our parents decide to use your father's illness to force us, I wouldn't agree." she said, as she stood.
Chris took in the full brown maxi skirt and a cream long sleeved shirt she wore and sighed, ever since she became born again she had changed but that didn't stop her from being beautiful.
She was still tall, elegant and fashionable minus the excesses. Infact he preferred her natural look. She gave him a long suffering sigh, to Eva's disappointment Chris was checking her out again.
"Chris I'm sorry about all this mix up, that was all past all these things should be left behind. As you can see I'm never going back to being that Eva who fell for you stupidly. Do extend my greeting to your parents when you get back to Nigeria. And have a nice day." she said as she left the office.
Chris smirked arrogantly, it seems this new Eva was better than the spoilt one he knew. He had discovered a new one despite her temper sometimes this Eva seemed more malleable.
And her passion and still existing chemistry between them was enough to fuel them before a divorce.
He had to make her see beyond her beliefs and do the right thing or he would force her whether by fair or foul means.
