Hello house, please is a total budget of $21,000 too much/suspicious for a family of 3(myself, husband and daughter)? Because people keep saying it will raise suspicion at d interview. Please note, my birth related fees amount to$9k+

No, I don't think it's too much, infact I think the more the better. Just make sure you have funds in your account to match your budget.

You shouldn't have any problem in so far as you have been keeping your own end of the bargain ( paying the agreed amount on and as at when due) I know people who are on payment plan and still had their visas renewed

To go outside you would need a UK visa or a transit visa. I guess

Not necessarily true,UK customs can stamp you in if you are transiting with a us visa. It's at the discretion of the officer you meet.

Hi everyone, I had my interview today with hubby and daughter but we were refused. Here is our transcript.

Vo: passport please, where are u going in the US?

DH: Atlanta Georgia

VO: why are going to the US?

DH: childbirth.... My wife is pregnant and she has been diagnosed of pre-eclamsia, we don't want to take any risk, so we want to have the baby in the US for better health Care.

VO: is there a particular reason why you want to go as far as Georgia, why not somewhere closer?

Me: the doctor I intend to use was recommended to me by a friend that had exact condition during her pregnancy. She used the doctor for her delivery.

VO: do you have a report from a doctor here in Nigeria showing your diagnosis?

ME: (I was like "yepa" in my mind) No, we don't .

VO:how much is your budget

DH: about 21,000 dollars

VO: are you all going for 3 months

DH: wife and daughter will stay 12 weeks, and I will join her towards her delivery date and stay 3 weeks.

VO: ( types and types) hands over blue paper and said we aren't qualified at the moment.

What do you think about our transcript. I believe she lost interest the moment we said we didn't have the Nigeria doctor's medical report. We intend to get my medical report and re-apply soon. Please advise.

See now, that reason highlighted that you gave the visa officer as reason to birth in the US didn't fly. A pregnant woman diagnosed with preeclamsia will not subject herself to all that stress and risk with flying over 12 hours or more to give birth in a foreign country.

Did you notice the question the visa officer asked? "is there a particular reason why you want to go as far as Georgia, why not somewhere closer?"....that question alone showed that your reason for going to the US for birthing was not believable.

Hello everyone and Happy New Month. I started off my month with great joy, just got my Visa approved. Halleluyaaaaah! Below is a transcript of my conversation with the Visa officer.

Vo: Good morning, how are you doing?
Me: I’m well, Good morning
Vo: Why are you traveling to the US?
Me: To give birth to my 3rd child
VO: Why the US?
Me: Because they have one of the best medical services in the world.
VO: Why not South Africa or other countries
Me: I haven’t been to the US and would like to use this child birth opportunity
VO: (Asks again) Why the US?
Me: It comes with the bonus of dual citizenship for my Baby (VO nods and kept typing)
VO: What does your husband do?
Me: I tell him
VO: So you work with XYZ Bank as Branch Manager
Me: Yes
VO: How long have you worked there?
Me: I tell him
VO: How long have you been a Branch Manager?
Me: I tell him
VO: How much will this trip cost you in USD?
Me: About $15,400
VO: Why this Hospital?
Me: My friend used it and recommended it, plus I hear they specialize in catering for International patients for Childbirth. VO nods his head.
VO: What’s the most expensive expenditure item on your budget list?
Me: Obstertrician fee, I have a budget sheet and can show you more details
VO: No, don’t worry. Have you traveled out of the country before now?
Me: Yes, twice to the UK
VO: Do you have the Visa for the trips?
Me: Yes and hand it over to him
VO: Is your Husband joining you on this trip?
Me: No, he’ll be busy with work and has to be around to cater for the kids.
VO: I will be granting your Visa, pick it up at blah blah blah. Even though I didn’t ask for your documents, you might have to present them at the POE.
Hands me the white paper and I walk away with a wide smile on my face.
I didn’t have to present any of the many documents I took along. Thank GOD for his Grace and mercies. Wish you all same, even better luck with yours.

Zeenayah:
Hi everyone, jetlag is real o. I still need plenty sleep.
I am not going to use that line. I am really glad this thread as thrived as all I did from July last year when I found the thread was read and read and make all the phone calls I need to.

I left Lagos via Qatar Airways on Saturday (27th) at 33 weeks 5 days. I had submitted my Mediff Form and co at their office on Tuesday because I didn't want stories that touch and they called me that it had been processed same day. After check in, the lady held my boarding pass and said I should go to port health for fit to fly and she hinted that I should just do whatever the woman says.
Port Health lady was forming drama that ehn she can't write more than 32 weeks o because Qatar is very strict o, forming calling her colleagues up and down the place . Hian, no be naija, my husband just dey observe, we gave her extra 1,500 and that was it.

Got to the airport 8ish, by 9am, we were done; or so we thought, the handbag I carried just decided it was going to die that day. The zip just pulled apart of its own accord. Shuo... I thank God I begged my dad to let his driver take us to the airport so my husband can come in with me easily. I just called the driver to just go straight to my parents house and collect handbag from my mum asap. He got back by 10:30 and that was sorted. (key point: get to the airport early to be able to manage unexpected surprises)

Immigration in lagos just asked their usual questions and find something for me - I said I don't have. Customs was asking am I sure I don't have more than 10k I said I am sure, the guy was like show me the money. I open envelope show am and he let me go.
We left lagos at 12:30ish, flight was very smooth and I had a nice air hostess who told me to ask her for anything I need. Didn't see her again after that (maybe she was attending to business class) so I couldn't really ask for stuff.

We got to Doha midnight (damn, that airport is beautifulllllllllll, trains moving inside the airport as you are walking pass, chai..) and proceeded to check in for the New York flight (yes I was going to Chicago but I didn't have strength for Chicago POE, my friends that went through that place saw when).

On my queue to check in for the New York leg, the Qatar staff was forming like he could ask people questions, the lady on the other hand was just passing people. Anyway, I stood there and was wondering is this the US CBP officer? It got to my turn and the following ensued:
Qatar check in staff: What are you going to the US for?
Me: Childbirth and Vacation
Qatar check in staff: When are you going back?
Me: April **
Qatar check in staff: Your passport is expiring in May
Me: Yes I know ( I used the passport like that. that 6 months thing doesn't apply for when you are travelling, a friend whose husband is an immigration officer confirmed for me)
Qatar check in staff: Do you have a return ticket? can I see it?
Me: Yes.. gives it to him
Qatar check in staff: You are returning from Chicago
Me: Yes I am
Qatar check in staff: When are you coming back
Me: rolls eyes... April ** and that was it.

My people I no see CBP officer for Doha o...... the guy probably went to sleep as it was midnight. I entered the waiting area for boarding, sat down, connected to the Free Wifi and sent messages to the hubby and family that am fine o.

As I was about to board the flight, the lady at the door just said I have been waiting for you, please come with me (see me looking like what happen) and told her colleague to take over from her. She just said I am changing your seats to these 3 free ones so you can sleep better during the flight, she collected my bag and stashed it for me. Next thing, do you want water or juice? let me know if you need anything, I would be checking on you during the flight. (was just shaking my head that on top my economy ticket, see God's favor). She brought me juice and the big bottle of water (3/4 full) and a cup. That flight was awesome, I was served food first (in economy o) and was given snacks, juice, water intermittently throughout the flight and slept well.

When we go to JFK (after 15 hrs.. mehn long journey- at this point, we don do 24hrs o), the air hostess took out my luggage, took me to the front seat right behind business class, made sure I left the plane first after business class and had already requested for wheelchair to carry me. ( I didn't ask for wheelchair). I didn't use the wheelchair because I didn't want to draw unnecessary attention to myself, by the way I wore my winter jacket at that point which had covered the tummy and I could walk.

I took a detour to the bathroom and on coming out, omo the queue don long; used the self service machine and joined the queue and started observing the CBP officer. I noticed one latino looking guy attending to people and stamping quickly not too many questions. The queue I was on the white guy was spending time with each person so it wasn't really moving. it was 8am so there were few officers checking us and another flight just arrived. I just kept praying in my mind that I would find favour wherever and I would only answer 3 questions (I had told my husband that at Doha). One of the officers, just came to the guy in my front and removed the boundary stuff and asked us to follow him, I quickly followed and landed in front of the latino CBP officer.

CBP officer: how long are you in the US for?
Me: 2 months and 2 weeks
CBP officer: looks at me and asked what is the purpose of your trip?
Me: Vacation and I am having a baby
CBP officer: how much do you have on you
Me: $8,500 cash and my cards
CBP officer: stamps me in till july 2018, the guy didn't even look at my passport data page to see that it was expiring in May. God's favour, I answered only 3 questions, my big fat envelope of burden of proof was just in my bag.

I quickly collected my passport and moved to the luggage area, got my bags and went to Agric because I declared food. 1 whole box was filled with grinded stuff for my aunty... egusi, apon, suya pepper, grounded pepper and iru. 23kg worth. They scanned it and didn't even say anything, it was my own box they opened because of Knorr but it was Knorr beef so they let it go.

The other lady beside me had Knorr chicken and indomie chicken, they collected everything, she was just looking sad. I said sorry and proceeded to look for where to go to the terminal for my connecting flight from New York to Chiicago.
Local flight easy peasy, got to Chicago and wheeled out my bags into aunt’s car. Finito.
Now onto hospital registration and praying to God for a safe delivery.
By the way uber is bae... using my GT card which is linked to uber and just taking rides around, they charged me 367 sha.

I am always excited when I read testimonies like this one, God will answer my prayers one day and my visa will be approved
My visa was denied in Abuja last year

I agree Beautyaddy.....we should just say "dual citizenship" if that's our reason. In addition, we have the testimony of mamas who have said so here

Good day ,

Please i need an assistant from the house.DH,myself and child applied for B1/B2 visa but we denied 214b.
The VO asked the purpose of our travelling and DH answered her so immediately after she asked if the baby with us is our only son and we said Yes she paused and started typing then we were denied.Meanwhile i am pregnant and my pregnancy wasnt even noticed though we were prepared already that if we were asked i will tell them the truth but will back date the weeks because the dress i wore wasnt reavealing how big the bumps is.
My question now is this we want to reapply on B1/B2 again but DH is not ready to apply with us just myself and child and also contact a doctor over there and declare i am going for child birth. Please i need advice of the house.
Thank you

What did you tell the VO when you were asked the purpose of your travel?

I think the reason you gave for wanting tontrave for child birth and for the fact it was the whole family that applied. There is nothing is holding you back that might want you return to your country

Good afternoon fam.
I applied for a dropbox renewal after i had my baby in 2016. Was called for the famous 221g interview. Went there with all my receipts and other burden of proof documents.
VO: passports please
ME: gave her
VO: where are you visiting in the US?
ME: Washington
VO: how long are you going For?
Me: 3 weeks
VO: have you been to the US before?
Me: yes on two occasions
VO: last time you went to the US what did you go For?
Me: I went to have my baby
VO: Do you have the receipts?
Me: yes please. I hand all receipts to her including a tabulated breakdown of my expenditure to show how much the entire trip cost.
VO: looks through then asks...Do you have an itemized receipt.
Me: no ma'am I wasn't given any by the hospital. All they gave me was a zero balance letter and another letter that stated that I paid my bill in full.
VO: leaves her seat for a while and comes back with a yellow paper. Ma'am at this time no decision has been reached on your application until you provide the itemized bill from the hospital.
On the yellow paper she wrote that I will need to provide the itemized bill from the hospital before further processing will continue. The yellow paper is to be submitted alongside my passport and itemized bill at dhl...
So na. so I waka today. Just thought to share.
Please who has an itemized bill and what does it look like?
Cheers!

I wouldn't advice you to re-apply right away. Try to apply again in like two or three months to give time.

You already told the visa officer that you plan on going to the US just for visiting and vacation...but was denied.

Your statement has already been recorded in their system. Changing your reasons for travelling to the US so soon might get you denied or even banned for a while if the visa officer thinks you lied during your previous interview.

After I opened up here and was reprimanded, I decided to be honest as usually suggested here. So, when i came to that point, I answered yes to the question. Now, some friends were blaming me that that quedtion does not concern my situation. Am confused.

Even if I reapply, should I keep clicking yes for that question or click no?

Sis...me sef I'm confused! sad

....but i think yes was the honest answer.

.... however, from your transcript.....the basis for refusal seems to be financial.....the $30k story....not willful misrepresentation.

Personally....i don't know what i would do. I hope i would be able to answer yes and maybe come to Lagos for my interview and hope that as people have suggested the VOs in Nigeria are more conversant with medical tourism than the Tanzanian ones! Maybe pay 2 fees and schedule 2 interviews a few days apart...i don't know if that's allowed....just in case the 1st interview doesn't go well...you'll have a back up interview soon after.

I'm not sure it's advisable to change your answer from yes to no.

Can anyone who has misrepresented/lied at interview or POE share their experience and their answer to this misrepresentation question on the DS160?

Thanks Nwebele for sharing your experience....its a learning point for all of us.

All the very best.

hello everyone. I have been following this thread and it has been very helpful, So I am here to give back. I applied for US visa 2016 while single and was denied. I got married last year and I am currently pregnant. So based on information from here, I decided to applied for medical visa together with my mother. Certain agencies I saw online charged about 400k . I couldnt start spending all that money now, So I decided to do it myself. I got a doctor's email at WHMC Texas and started correspondence. I paid $200 for an appointment and got several documents which I took along.

I had my interview 7.30 am this morning Feb 1st in Abuja and it went thus:
Me: Good Morning (smiling)
VO: Morning ( he showed no emotions)
Mum: Good morning ( VO didnt reply)
VO: Passports please. What's the relationship?
Me: She is mother.
Mum: She is my daughter.
Me: (I hand him a family picture)
VO: Madam please dont bring out any documents until I ask you to.
Me: Okay. sorry sir.
VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: To give birth.
Mum: To assist her because its her first child.
VO: What do you do?
Me: I am an architect. I work at ....
Mum: I wotk with the FG. Ministry of ...
VO: Have you travelled outside the country?
Me: I have been travelling to the UK since 2013. I currently have a valid 2 years visa.
VO: Is that all?
Me: I have been to Dubai, Singapore and some African countries.
VO: Have you contacted a doctor? Can I have your correspondence?
Me: (I hand the documents to him) Yes, I have a letter from my doctor and I have paid for my first appointment. ( I forgot at this point to even mention the name of the doctor and hospital)
VO: Whats the total cost of your medical fees?
Me: From the budget sent by my doctor, the cost is $7000.
VO: Madam that is certainly very little. May I remind you that the US has the highest medical cost in the world...(He starts raising his voice)
Me: That is just the hospital and doctor's cost sir. Our budget for the entire trip including living expenses is $16000. You asked for the medical fees...(I was getting a little apprehensive and I started praying silently)
VO: (Starts typing) So how much do you say is the cost of your trip?
Me: $16,000 sir.
VO: How will you be paying?
Me: My husband and I will be paying.
VO: What does your husband do?
Me: He is a media consultant. He works with FG.
VO: Can I have your bank statement?
Me: (I hand him 2 bank statements). I also have a fixed deposit that will mature in May. (He didnt bother to look at it)
VO: How many children do you have?
Me: This is my first child.
VO: (Turns to my mum) Madam, how many children do you have?
Mum: I have 9 children.
VO: (Types for some minutes while I was praying and wondering what he could be thinking) Madam you can take back these documents. Your visa has been approved. Have a safe trip. (He hands be the white papet)

I really Thank God for everything. I hope to leave end of April or 1st week of May.

I actually have the condition, though not a severe case of it that can't be handled here in Nigeria. I just thought it would make more sense to state it as a reason for travelling. Maybe the VO would have felt differently if i was able to show my Nigerian doctor's report, and if I had mentioned the dual citizenship thing when she asked if there was a specific reason why I wanted to go that far, and not a nearer place.

quote author=Beautyaddy post=64701805]See now, that reason highlighted that you gave the visa officer as reason to birth in the US didn't fly.

Thank you so much for the advice. I think I will have to stay back and have the baby here because reapplying 2months/3month won't be possible as I would be due by April.
Beautyaddy:

Am confused

Even if I reapply, should I keep clicking yes for that question or click no?

I think you should click NO.

You're not the first person to not declare your intent to birth and I'm pretty sure that those who were honest about this in their next application did not click YES.

I'd say reapply if you can in Nigeria.
Bring up the issue of the last birth. Also mention this question from the ds160 during the interview.to know if click no or yes is right

Maybe you just leave it at you are going to give birth.
I wish you goodluck in your next interview.
