How is a mere wish by someone who has done nothing to correct the ills that he speaks about equal to good news
Are we so shallow with low aspirations for ourselves and low expectations of our public servants?
Ayam not understanding.
Can you please explain.
Thanks

There's really a lot for me to explain but I'll task your empathy hormones a bit.

What do you want me to enlighten you on that you don't already know? But here's what I do know; Sanusi may not be the best example of a public servant who has contributed substantially to boost the welfare of the average Nigerian, but he has always provided ideas that can help, if they are implemented.

A Nigerian lawmaker who sees this will not let such a bill, or law, become constitutional. Not just him [or her] but all other people who benefit from his position - family members, contractors, employees, friends [girlfriends, baby-mamas and oh-low-shows]. This may just be the reason why Sanusi's idea may not be passed into law. A typical lawmaker represents his constitution on paper, but represents himself [or herself] in his mind. That's the fundamental root of corruption.

If slashing a senator's salary will guarantee the current rate of employment is halved and sustained at that half figure, I'm in support of it. Not just for the now, but for the future.

We may all have different views on his idea but come to think of it - I ask you, if tomorrow your son or daughter would become gainfully employed through this proposed legislation, that simply advocates distribution of wealth evenly, pragmatically and to where it is effective for economic viability and social welfare, would you not support it now?

Cut legislators’, ministers’ salary by half, Sanusi tells Buhari

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to review the salaries of members of the National Assembly and ministers, with a view to creating more jobs for Nigerian unemployed youths.

According to Guardian, he said this yesterday while urging political office holders to make sacrifices and salvage the country from its current economic downturn.

He argued that if the salary of each member of the National Assembly was divided into two, it would go a long way to provide more jobs for 70,400 jobless Nigerians at between N90, 000 and N92, 500 monthly salary.

Sanusi gave the charge through a statement addressed to President Buhari, while also lamenting that the salary of military personnel, who are defending the country was only N49, 000 with some of them lacking accommodation.

He said: “Where is the change? Change should start with the National Assembly. A senator receives N36million monthly. If this is divided into two, it comes to N18 million.

The second half of N18 million can be used to create jobs for 200 Nigerians, each earning N90, 000 monthly, When you multiply 200 people by 109 senators, this will give 21,800 Nigerians gainful employment.

In short, 200 Nigerians will be able to live a comfortable life on half a senator’s monthly salary.”

Further highlighting the disparity in the standard of living of public office holders, particularly the legislators, Sanusi argued that a member of the House of Representatives receives N25million monthly.

“Half of that amount is N12.5million, which is enough to employ 135 Nigerians with a monthly salary of N92, 500 each.

Sanusi,
You are intelligent by half here.

Buhari has no power to fix legislator's pay, unless you want to ask him to become an absolute dictator.

What Nigeria needs to survive is restructuring the country's 36 state and Abuja political structure created by Arewa soldiers.

Another is letting Diaspora Nigerians vote in Nigeria's presidential election.

What of the 'Emirate Allowances'?

What's the economic value of our flamboyant traditional rulers.

All their allowances should be reviewed alongside Senators & Ministers, not forgetting that the VP & President are currently on half salary.

People keep complaining about the salaries of legislators as if that's the problem we have in this country.

Generally, public office should be made less lucrative in Nigeria. Do this and see if people will still be running into politics.

Sanusi is a typical Fulani - he ignores the substance and chases shadows, in the bid to confuse those chasing after him.

Yes, legislators are on unusual fat salary, but that is not the issue that has crippled Nigeria. Nigeria's problems are caused by the "food is ready" political process that favours only politicians of Sanusi's Arewa

It is obvious the man Buhari has failed to bring any form of the change he promised. We had thought change like the one the emir just spoke about was going to happen. And we were wrong!

Yet, I am likely going to vote Buhari in 2019. I am yet to see a better candidate proposing to contest the 2019 Presidential Elections.

Anyone angry about the likelihood of me voting Buhari should kiss his a***s grin

I am pretty sure this is reetarded fake news.

And all the black baboons who are products of a failed education believed it.

The suggestion is reetarded with complete nonsense data and I would doubt such would come from an immensely intelligent man like Sanusi.

The problem with Nigeria is not just poor leadership, it is also the fucktardism of followership.

I am shocked at the comments I am reading.

I was expecting to see an outcry on the thread. Alas, at least 80% of the youths concerned have never seen N3m in bulk but one senator takes home N36m every month..

You cant force people to have sense nah.
