I don’t want to bash your city because it’s where I am now. But if we keep praising mediocrity, we wont move forward. Uyo has one of the best “major” roads in Niger Delta for sure but development is more than major roads. The inner roads are all not tarred except few select areas, and this is just talking about roads.
I’m talking about the lack of good roads (only major roads are BEAUTIFUL). What about the lack of amenities in Uyo? How many branches do the banks have ? 2? 3? What of armed robbers? If you don’t pay your vigilante old men, how far? How is your night life and the business atmosphere? Not everyone that points out your bad points is “hating”
Are this problems you listed peculiar to uyo? Or are they national challenges? Make real points, so we can have a pointed argument.

Honestly, I was hoping to see impressive pictures but to tell you the truth, I'm quite disappointed. It's either the op/photographer did not capture the best areas or that the city has stagnated since Akpabio revolutionized the infrastructure. It is either that our standards are abysmally low or that Uyo was indeed a village before Akpabio became governor. Whichever one it is, the pictures I'm seeing here are not impressive at all, not even by African standards undecided undecided

Abak Road has one of the best electricity supplies in Nigeria, surpassing that of many states. So I don't know what you mean by your question. There is no electricity issue at Abak Road except if the street has a transformer failure.

Almost all the inner city roads in Uyo are tarred, except you want to be economical with the truth. Uyo is a city where everywhere is connected. All the inner roads and crescents in 4 Towns, Ewet Offot, Oku, and other areas in Central Uyo are tarred. Even in the Itam, Ibesikpo and other outlying areas, many of the roads are tarred and they are much more connected that many so called cities in Nigeria.

So except you are being economical with the truth, give credit where credit lies. Uyo has many shortcomings but it is a lot better in many aspects than most Nigerian cities.

And just so you know, I'm not an Akwa Ibomite.

Kai you've spoken well, but you almost spoil your comment with Abak road having one of the best electricity in the country.
Chisos chisos, abi na another Abak road or na same Abak road wey I know and lived in for years.

Really green state!

Has any one stayed in Akwa ibom and River state?

I do like a comparison on the following
Cost of living
Average cost of housing
Starting up a business like transport
General scenery
and tranquility

I hope to get a reply...thanks!

Akwa ibom beats rivers in a lot of aspect but in terms of business, Rivers beats it hands down

Uyo is serene with very good roads by naija standard.
That's all.

Where Akwa Ibom fares better than Rivers is
1. Clean environment
2. Good roads
3. Security
4. Less population making the state less congested

That's all. Rivers is miles ahead in every other aspect.

Uyo is beautiful and serene. But a very poor standard of living state. The average akwa ibomites are not business oriented.Lack entrepreneur skills and are petty. Those who grew up outside their states are lucky.

I still love the place though.

Akwa needs to do just ONE thing ALONE. Just one thing and everything will fall in place. Just this one thing; Create a working seaport. That's ALL.

Some Nigerians are just born with negativity in their blood, clear sign of demonic activities in them. Forming critic without sense

It is very annoying.

I agree with you. Akwa Ibomites are very lazy and don't have that motivation to make money. This is exactly why Igbos saturate the length and breadth of the state, mining gold in businesses that Akwa Ibomites will not exploit.

Uyo contributes nothing to Akwa Ibom! Not even agriculture nor oil...

Spending all the cash on useless things like Ibom plaza...
Akwa Ibom money should be invested in eket/ibeno, esit Eket, ikot ekpene (Oil, agriculture) oron (sea products, agriculture)

Uyo is just a waste of space! S/o to ibesiko (hard working farmers tho

oga Laziness isn't a South south thing! I've stayed in the North, East and West and I'm from the south South. I tell you outside Lagos and the south east Laziness is everywhere in Nigeria! what do you call the beggars in the west or area boys always harassing strangers for settlement? Hardworking? What do you call the Hausa/Fulani beggars always stretching their hands for crumbs in traffic?

Congratulations to Gov Victor Atta, Gov Godswill Akpabio and the present Gov. Emmanuel Udom. These are great PDP governors that saw Akwa Ibom from a rural community to a giant economic hub now. You have shown what PDP government was able to achieve. These development strides cannot be compared anywhere else. Shame to those who say PDP did not perform.

Uyo would have been better than it is today if it was located closer to the Atlantic ocean where you have Ibeno. Those oil facilities would have brought a greater and faster development than just good roads.
But with time I believe things will fall in place.

Uyo still remain one of my favorite cities in Nigeria.

Trust me we prefer our government, and governor, slowly we will get to our goal. Slow and steady wins the race.

Yes I'm Okorocha number 1 fan and I appreciate his efforts with little funds. However the issue I raised has to do with lackluster attitude of Akwaibomites in complementing Government's effort.

Based on my interactions with Akwaibomites they are not lazy as claimed by some people here but are rather much more hardworking than all their neighbours. The major problem is that they did not start business early like Igbos thereby making them disadvantaged in terms of capital and connections. I believe that with time things will even up.

My brother don't mind that useless bitter old man. He is only bitter and frustrated about the development in your state. His anger is that Imo state is a failed state. cheesy

No compare SS to Hausas abeg.

Hausas were trading with the Arabs even before the Igbos saw cloth. Dantata was the richest man in West Africa before oil was discovered.

The SS is lazy and I'm from the SS. Go to Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Calabar, Igbos run everywhere except politics. PH would have been the same if not for the Igboid groups there.

With the amount of money that has been shared from politics, enterprising people would have transformed the SS. You know how much boys n chairmen they pick, wen them go come later blow. If e too much na hotel, bar, restaurant, provision store them go open. Na so development 1 come? The Igbos only come to sell things to us, and carry the money to go build houses in their villages. It's a vicious cycle.
