Which Lingard is that? Pogba should be playing further up out of the 3 midfielders if truly we are playing with 3 in the middle. Lingard has lesser defensive duties and plays further up. That should be Pogba

So he shouldn't be regarded as one of the 3 men in the midfield like Jose is trying to portray. If Lingard is the one pressing up field, Pogba prefers to influence play further up the pitch, how can Matic win the battle of the midfield alone?

In a way you are right. this was what caused the 1st goal against scummsenal but since then he's dropped that intensity of chasing balls and looking to cause mistakes.

What Mourinho has been doing is playing 2 8's n a 6 then switching to 2 6's and an 8 with Lingard being the furthest of both styles. This is what people are seeing that makes them say Pogba is playing deep. If he could have another person with Matic in those transitions with Pogba able to roam, we would have been able to see his ability. At the moment Lingard is holding the key to a formation switch that can change things. Would Mourinho drop the only runner in our midfield for a much lazier pogba? Pogba is not the best of runners when counter attacking.

I will definitely prefer the 4-3-3 system, the problem now is who is going to be the third body in midfield? Herrera, McTominay or Lingard, I'm sure the front 3 can swap and interchange position during the match.
