This E-hailing business is being flooded. More than 20 cars have been announced to drivers for the past one week on this platform. The same thing at the other platform I belong to. Visit uber/taxify office, and you will see crowd. Soon drivers will outnumbered the available riders on the platforms. I pity new drivers coz its only experienced drivers that can scale through this hurdles.

You sound scared of competition. It's business, it's bound to happen with time.

yes, its business but im not scared of competition. I just pity those on rentals of 40k. If this continues, most of them won't be able to meet up. Rentals should not be more than 30k for 2.0l and above engines and 35k for below. The best time to drive now is weekends.

Law of demand and supply will take care of your fears should that time come when you have more cars than riders

I Turned on my app 3weeks ago,
just closed from work, wanted to do a few trips b4 going home.

first request was @ akilo near latter rain. I drove to location, called rider and low and behold it was the boi of my spare part supplier cheesy, he was surprised he said "ah Oga you too de drive uber" I said yes o! I now asked him you to de enter uber? That's when he did the math for me.

4 of them were going on a 5km trip, it would cost them between 400-700naira. It was rush hour, keke was scarce, bikes were unavailable. Keke would charge 1k drop @ this time, but uber with my ac and DVD charged N635 for the trip.

What is happening in lagos is a revolutionary, people are taking advantage of E-hailing business, more riders are coming on board people are getting smarter.

Let me give you a final example.

On Sunday I got a request from around charlie boi bustop area, I called rider and asked the usual where u de go? angry the guy said babcok university please sir can you go? I went to location, carried 4bois and filled up my boot with all their luggage, o traffic, 78km trip. I knew it would not be profitable since there would be no rides back, but we'll I was done for the day, and I wanted to do the long trip any way.

End of trip 5460 naira.

Lagosians have realised that it is cheaper and safer in most cases to use UBER (not taxify) for trips when paired than go with conventional public transport.

The market is growing, there will be space for every one.

some time I get angry when I see a crowd people at the Base of ikeja bridge waiting for 1 rickety Dando bus or keke napep to take them to ogba. If 4 of them join forces, @ 150naira it would be enough to take them to ogba with a.c and good music.

With time and more awareness, uber drivers will be busy round the clock.

Then the argument will be 'is breaking even achieveable when considering distance over money paid out to cover such?' Giving notice to other factors eg traffic, return trip and multiple stops.

That was why I was telling drivers when fares dropped that it wasn't an entirely bad idea. The market then was less than 5% of the entire lagos.
Reduce prices and get more people into the bucket, especially people who saw e- taxir as too expensive . when they get the experience they see the comfort and affordability, they will get stuck to the idea and will always come back. E- taxi Is a more than welcome revolution in our public transport. And I can bet uber and taxify combined still don't have enough drivers to move the entire Lagos

Good arguement.

With the uber platform on an inefficient engine over 2.0liter, driver will be working for uber and fuel stations.

It is not easy to make a decent profit on a weekday unless you target surge areas and work late.
On Friday sat and sunday, it's usually back to back trips, driver can get his weekly rental and saveup something decent for him self.

With strategic positioning, and a good attitude, you get lots of offline trips, and tips. Also you need luck on your side.

repairs are inevitable if you buy a brand new car or a used car, the difference is in maintenance. The brand new car will have less repairs, but still susceptible to tyre blow outs due to bad roads, damaged caused by obstructions on the road that could damage condenser,
radiator and oil pan. Both cars are also not immune to unforseen accidents that cause down time.

Keeping drivers happy is key. drivers on an achievable rental will go home when tired, while those on unrealistic 40-50k rentals will continue driving fighting sleep. From experience such drivers make poor decisions and car gets totaled.

There are drivers on this platform on only uber, and achieve their weekly reasonable rentals.

about breaking even. It is possible if every one stops looking @ E-hailing like if it is MMM. I am thinking of lowering my rental rates to keep drivers happy @ same time get them more involved with maintenance.

From my view if each vehicle made 100k per month consistently car would have paid for its self in 1year and I still have my Principal.

I maintain my vehicles personally so my views will differ from yours.

But making a profit is very possible when down time is reduced significantly.

finally I don't see any one shouting bring ur cars to me I will pay 50k per week........

Hi all, please i want to know how reliable honda civic 2007/2008 is for e-hailing business in terms of fuel consumption, cheap availability of parts and ruggedness. Many thanks as i await responses. (i intend to drive myself on part time basis)

Fuel comsumption and cheap availability of parts- 1.8l engine(very economical) and parts full oyingbo and Lapido
As for ruggedness; a friend drives same vehicle full-time on Uber/taxify and he drives himself for over a year now, just regular maintenance issues one would expect from overworking a car on E-hailing ie suspension, AC, tires etc.
Final verdict all things being equal(competent kazeem mechanic and original parts) i think it is reliable car for e-hailing

Do you have a competent kazeem who would do the conversion from RHD to LHD without cutting corner?

and Merc C-class has different models with different engines so which are you talking about?

First highlighted
Do u fully support that rentals be lowered and Driver involved in maintenance to Balance out? And do drivers really want to be involved with maintenance on a rental business approach when considering they do same for HP model?

Second highlighted

Are u saying e-hailing should be seen as an investment which roi is based on a well calculated approach in achieving consistency within a 1year outlook?

So people should stop seeing e-hailing as a cash cow rather as an investment which pays out over time

Talking about lowering prices, I think its inevitable. With more cars coming on the platform at an aggressive rate as is being experienced now, we can only make space for each other by lowering remittance to 35k for 1.8ltr engine and below. We will all still break even in no time.
I already reduced remittance to 35k since January, and I believe it will take about 400-500 new cars to affect my and my drivers' earnings.
A corolla I bought for 1.5m in January is already at almost 250k in just 7weeks. 35k is not bad after all.
