dfrost:Bros, This is why many of our "yoots" are either badly educated, have comprehension deficit, lacking in imagination or perennially daft. A simple reading through the publication gives all the necessary clarifications needed. I will imagine that "local content" should either be the key word or what they need to get the understanding...... but know, it takes a misguided person to start and lead other foolish ones who willing submit themselves to be led astray. Meanwhile, I am member of both NCS and this body |

mekaboy:So I take it that you just simply want to comment..... you don't know "Jack" about it, neither do you understand the new law |

FYI 1. This law or executive order was sponsored by the professional body (CPN/NCS) as white paper recommendation to the FG since mid 2000. 2. This law serves to protect local software developers, allow them to grow and actively compete especially when it comes to govt contracts. I remember once playing golf with Alh. Ogunneye, who told me of how NCS/CPN had written to FG back then that there local comp with capabilities and financial muscle to handle the national ID card project, yet FG awarded the contract to Mastercard 3. How do you expect a local content providers to grow on a national scale when banks, Telcom, Oil and Gas Coys buy as little as HR & Pay-Roll solutions from foreign suppliers? How can local developers grow like the Indian coy Infosys that is probably the biggest exporter of banking solutions and software consulting/offshoring in the world? Did you know that Infosys was just a simple software company in a dingy house in India in the mid 80s? 4. Many of you lot are so ignorant and embarrassingly so. A simple request to be educated on issues you are alien to would have been a honorable option but no, you would rather demonstrate crude ignorance. |

mapet:My colleague in arms, chop knuckle jare as we say in Nigeria (actually fist bump). I joined NCS in my second year and CPN after service. So many ignorant folks on these forum (and in Nigeria), yet too proud to admit their ignorance. Imagine FMBN pricing my application for peanuts because it's local content? Same FMBN dolled out millions to acquire their present solution for contribution. It's so painful. I'm actually working towards becoming chartered with BCS. |

justtoodark:Are 'Chinedu' and 'Ngozi' the only people who have ever insulted you? Why is it so difficult to 'forgive' in their own particular case? There must be something else making you so angry, or why take your anger out on a whole ethnic group? |

I think we have the habit of blowing things out of proportion. Generally, we have not much trust in whoever is at the seat of power, that makes us look at almost everything with a bad eye. Or could this be because we're not used to doing things the proper way? But this stuff isn't even new. What exactly is wrong with that? Sometimes it's good we keep politics or tribe or religion aside and view things plainly. |

dfrost:Bros, I am ashamed to say this, I should have been a FELLOW of both bodies by now, but my organisation moved me away from IT in 2010 to Corporate Strategy. I did not follow-up so much on activities, especially conferences. The good news is that I am co-founder of a Tech startup(we're coming to market soon) and I will "put my leg back in" both NCS & CPN. |

justtoodark:Nobody is going to force you to forgive but be sincere, justtoodark, do you really hate those guys? Throw away this hate. It can hurt more than you know it. Please I beg of you. |

mapet:Please put your leg back in. We really need the young hands to shake this up. I'm tired of going to conferences and seeing old men that don't have hands on directing matters only on paper. I have mandated two of my surbodinates to register for the April Digest so they too can come on board. |

Sometimes most nairalanders just comment without reading. That 'ACT' was established in '1993' and amended in 2004. Why blame the present administration for trying work with a law that wasn't created by them? Or isn't government supposed to be a continuation of policies. |
