Hi Manlikegb,

1. My visa was obtained in 2015 for visit which I already used same year to attend my friend’s wedding. When I decided to give birth here this year, I emailed the Canadian consulate in UK to ask if I could use the visa for birthing and they said yes but mentioned that the POE officer has the ultimate decision to either let me into Canada or not.

2. No they didn’t make any reference to that.

3. I think the fact that I was honest and I had the correspondence. I had a budget sheet as well that I listed the estimated amount + contingency as someone here advised me to so transparency is key.
The asked other questions to ensure I’d be returning after delivery eg my job title, if my company agreed to give me 2 months (so I mentioned that I’m entitled to 52 weeks maternity). They asked if my husband was coming and I said that’s the plan but only if his job permits him.

In honesty I didn’t fidget a bit but I can’t tell if any of these mattered or influenced their decision to let me in. They asked how much I have but they never asked to see it‍♀️‍♀️

Sorry if I’ve not been able to directly answer your questions.

@Geeagu, thanks for sharing your experience. I'd like to ask a few questions..
1. Did u get your visa for tourism or did you mention childbirth in your application?
2. Did they make any reference to your visa application on whether you mentioned childbirth intentions when you applied for the visa?
3. I know the CBP officer allowed you in eventually, but what can you deduce from all the questioning and what convinced them to allow you entry?

Thanks for your time.

@Geeagu, thanks for your response. Its quite helpful.

Please, does anyone in the house know the email address of the Canadian Consulate in Lagos, Nigeria? I'm thinking to write to them as well and have the correspondence handy.

Thanks for your response, I actually looked it up online before asking and what I noted from my search "lagos@international.gc.ca". I wasn't totally convinced its the right one was why I asked again on here so people who have done such can input.

I really appreciate your time and help @Hotstepper & @Geeagu

Hi All,
Wanted to share this to help anyone looking to give birth in Canada make an informed decision cos knowledge is power!

A relation of mine came over late last year and had her baby at Oshawa and we found out that the child delivery charges are a fraction(less than half) of what the charges are in Toronto( where she delivered her previous babies)

Below is a breakdown of charges for child birth @ Oshawa

Doctors(obgyn) fee...$1600 (irrespective of c-section or natural delivery, and provided delivery is without complications)
Ante natal check up...$72.50/visit
Blood tests...$51.20
Ultrasound...$175.40

In Toronto Doctors fee is $3500 (this is the charge as of three years ago for complication-free delivery and does not include ante natal visits, blood tests, ultrasound)

Hospital fee is $2500/night...this is same across Ontario (of which Toronto and Oshawa are part of)

Hope this info helps in making informed decision...

Please can I have the hospital information and link so I can contact them. Also do you have any information on accommodation as we intend to stay on our own since we don't have relatives in Canada.

Doctors correspondence i believe will give you an edge to obtaining medical visa( though some people have been granted medical visa without dr’s correspondence).
To get a correspondence from an obgyn(obstetrics/gynaecologist), a family physician must 1st refer you to an obgyn.
My 2 cents is to arrange for a referral by a family doctor to get you to thru to an obgyn. Then request for a note from the obgyn to include in your package for visa application.

If you have friends or relations in canada, they can assist you with the family physician referral to an obgyn.

Best of luck in your visa application

Dear Hotstepper, kindly help me out with a family doctor in Oshawa for me to get a referral to an obgyn. Thanks in advance

Kindly help me out with a gynea contact details in oshawa. Thanks alot.

Let me give you a brief background about myself because I have been a silent reader of this thread. Infact, i have read all the pages.
I am currently about 14weeks pregnant and I intend to submit my visa application via paper application because I heard it is faster. I want to be completely honest in the application and mention my purpose as birthing in a self introductory letter. I do not have anyone to write me a letter of invitation because although I know people in Canada, they would be on vacation around my due date because it is august 21, 2018 during the summer time. I have about 5.2 million in my account. Would that be sufficient as proof of funds?

Thanx first sharing. I hope you get an affordable doctor and hospital soon.

]Hello people, greetings

So for the little information I have for now, here it goes....

I arrived Calgary safe and without any hassle, when I say no hassle, my time spent at Poe was about 2 minutes tops.
Got in, settled down and my search began for an ob/gyn

It wasn't easy as everyone I called asked if I had insurance because they can't accept cash payments.

I finally got a referral to a Dr at Foothils hospital Calgary Alberta.

I visited the first time and for the first visit I paid $180 cad, and subsequent visits will be 60cad.
Then he examined me and said all is well and from the tests results I brought(thanks to informants here, God bless you all) that I won't be needing any more tests. Im due in June 2017 by their calculations/report, but by God's grace I'm praying for my specific due date grin during my safe period in Jesus name amen.

Now to the part that amazed me undecided he gave me a break down of his fees.

Dr fee 5000cad(this excludes all your prenatal check ups oh! Hmmm. Well I have just a few checks IF I will use him)
Hospital 4765cad
Baby 1968
Epidural 1500 cad
Hospital admittance fee 865
tongue

I was speechless cos everything he told me is completely different from what I have been reading here though it's not specifically on Calgary doctors, but I did a rough estimate from findings here.

I got home, called rocky view hospital and they said their hospital fee is 3488 and baby is 1968cad, that they have no idea about doctors fee, that I would have to get a dr to know that and the epidural fee too.

So here I am thinking if I should "jejely go to the aarmrika" or keep searching or go to another state cos I'm tired cos we budgeted 6k for everything.

Advice my people. Thanks and God bless you all

kindly hint me on the process and visa u used in getting to canada and can u travel alone or with husband and child? kindly reply, cos im willing to make same move

Hello everyone, masters of the house. My wife is planning on going to Canada but I do not have relatives out there but she has a couple in Montreal / Quebec. It is her first pregnancy and I have been scouring and calling a lot of places for inquiries. What I have gotten so far is Toronto, Oshawa (seems to be cheaper) or Montreal (can't seem to find anyone been calling all over the place, may be because Im not doing it right).

Does anyone have experience of birthing in Montreal / Quebec? If so, what are the requirements and procedures? Thanks in anticipation.

Dear Thespecialist
Your post came at the right time, thank you so much and thanks to all my seniors in this group lol and our one and only hotstepper alias 'make google your friend' welldone mama. I have been following this threads for quite a while.
Me and my family (5) got invited by my blood sister but unfortunately i was the only one granted 4years visa even my baby of 10months old then was not granted in 2016, we re-applied again and they were refused. I had to wait till 2018 feb to travel without my baby now 2years 4months.
Now my questions are these

1) i got pregnant last year November to be due by August by God's grace. I will like to birth in canada, can my family re-apply again because they will be on summer break and my hubby cant cope with them alone.(11years, 9years and 2 years (girls)?

2) i want to go to ottawa hospital but my sister dont know anything about them there and am not sure she is ready to go do any findings for me cos she is nursing triplets babies and she hardly go out, can someone pls help me out.

I will be waiting for your reply my people, help a sister out, i want to go by June so i need register asap. Thank you.

Congratulations! you can try and reapply. u probably dont have enough money for the 5 of u or they see it as not having ties since evry member of the family is applying.

If your blood sister cannot help u then my dear i dont know ooo. didnt she birth in ottawa? all she needs to do is to register u with the gynea she used via phone nd thats it. u use the hospital of the gynea and thats about that.
