JikanBaura:Baura is a hausa weapon a kind of kind of large knife similar to Barandami or Ngario. Baura was specifically used by yan Shanci- the knife fighters ( as described by Cyprian Ekwensi in his book - “Passport of Mallam Iliya”. It means that your family were in the shanci fight trade or used Baura as a weapon in ancient wars. Baura became the title of the district head of Dange in the old Sokoto Kingdom. Baura Dange, in a similar fashion to Yandoton Tsafe or Dankaden Tudun Wanda in Kano or Makaman Bakori in Katsina. Shekara is of course the female of shekarau - given to a post term pregnancy. A baby whose pregnancy lasted longer the the usual 9 months. |

DevdanSanguine:I beg to disagree with your generation that '' Anyone with a surname dikko is definitely not a Hausa man.'' My reason, I know many people who bear names like Bako, Tani, Barau, etc which are definitely & etymologically Hausa names, yet these people have no affinity with any hausa person. Likewise the name dikko could also be found among persons who are not Fulani, eventhough it could be originally Fulani name. In fact, my paternal grand-uncle bore this name, but our origin has nothing to do with neither Fulani nor hausa. So, names can be particular, but not peculiar. |
| Re: Real Hausa Native Names And Their Meanings by Nobody: 9:18pm On Feb 24, 2018 |
TENHEU22:No you don't. Dikko is not and can never be a Hausa name. With emphasis on NEVER. |
| Re: Real Hausa Native Names And Their Meanings by Nobody: 9:20pm On Feb 24, 2018 |
gawu1:Go back and read the rest of the debate. Hausas do not adopt Fulani surnames nor do fulanis adopt Hausa surnames. As for the names you mentioned, like I said, minorities use Hausa first names more than hausas themselves. A person with a surname dikko can never be hausa. Like the chances aren't slim but zero. |
