Top 3 Reasons Your Stock Prices Won't Go Higher: I had a discussion with someone (name withheld, but let's call him Michael) who wanted to understand the reasons some shares rise faster than others. His portfolio had more "low-priced stocks" trading below N10, which he deliberately selected to take advantage of volume-driven profit; what I mean is, the stock units he owns ranged from 100,000 - 300,000, then I asked why he adopted that trading strategy, he said he believed that "someday" those shares would increase by N1 and he'll make millions of Naira. If you take a closer look at his expectations, they aren't far from reality, those penny stocks might rise and earn him a minimum of N100k profit on each share. But, here is the sad reality, his portfolio return had been on the negative territory for 2 years now, the stocks, which were "randomly selected" had been down. As at when I checked his purchase price against the current market price, some stocks nosedived to less than 50k after NSE lifted the 0.50k minimum price per share restriction. Yes there might be a few shake out sometimes, but we shall continue to head the north lane until we get to, 1st the 49th avenue and then near the 60th boulevard. ...for we are strongly backed by Mr TIME. ![]() #BELIEVE #ANDKEEPBELIEVING NOTE: Still shouldn't be taken for a recommendation. ...DD always advised pls. |

Hello house, Any information on who sold the 1.1b units of Access? Any information on who brought the scary FBN offer volumes of over 300m? I believe the two events must be linked to one seller. |

IchimokuPilot:@tritritri This is a very good advice if I may say. There's no need crying over split milk, @the bolded is just it. All you need to do is forge ahead. Flourmill is a premium stock. You may choose to buy it back or look the way of another good stock. |

fxuser:In my opinion, the people buying are buying into the future of the company and not the present (i.e. its present loss position). Its case can be compared to that of International Brewery that was as good as dead before the South African investor, Sab Miller Plc invested into it. Intbrew IPO in 2007 was offered for subscription at N0.87k and today we all know what the share price is. That could be the power of transformation and having a solid investor invested into a dead company. Caveat: Please note that this is NOT a recommendation to buy neither is it monkey hunting, its purely for informational purposes because I've read quite some mentions here about the company and thus think I should say something. DD should be applied please. @currentprice, I like the wisdom used when advising someone on the said stock. |

Advise need please Bought Julius Berger @ N40.41 now price is N24.85 i.e a 38.5% loss Bought Mobil @ N336 now price is N175.00 a 48% loss Do I hang on or cut my losses and move on? Also been trying to sell 50 units of Newgold ETF but as of Friday only 4 Units could be sold. Is the stock illiquid? Any useful advise/insights would be appreciated. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by kolaish(m): 1:28pm On Mar 10, 2018 |
DUNKA:It depend largely on your financial state and investment strategy. First of all, I wonder why you waited for this long in JB and Mobil, because I can see through the price quoted that you bought those stocks at their peak. That notwithstanding, JB is a stock that can still rise significantly, (though not in the next 3 months) because contract can still be awarded to it for construction to make up for loss ground by the present govt due to the next election, so if you are bouyant, you may not sell till you recoup some of the capital loss. For Mobil, you may wait till the financial result is out. I know that their result can propel it to around N200 or so. I am not in your position and our investment strategy differs. I will stop for now, so that others can contribute. |

fxuser:Example of this buying into "hope" could be seen in those buying those penny stocks 'cos of the 1k rule. These set of people might be on a long thing eventually because there's simply no positive news driving the share prices. Well, except maybe they already factored in the fact that they were gambling with the money and if lost, it wouldnt bother them. Most of those stocks are moribund. While those buying were 'hoping' to gain or that there would appear a "messiah" for those stocks, they should equally be aware that they might end up loosing the entire capital. In essence, those buying into penny stocks because of 1k rule should beware. When those stocks get to comfortable bridge, you can always cross it. @fxuser, sorry for quoting your mentions. They happened to relate to what I wanted to talk on. I just feel like contributing here today. |

valacious:According to Ihedi 'ONE LOVE'. But then, your prediction of N2 to me is like a wake up call to still get into DS/DF before the release of their result. If NASCON can declare N1.50 as div, then DS can declare something similar, if not better. |

| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Coolcash1: 3:06pm On Mar 10, 2018 |
DUNKA:The part in bold depends largely on volume and investment objective. I presume your objective changed from long term when the purchase was made to short term now. If this is the case then it's important you consider volume before disposing the stocks. If the volume is huge, you may want to sell only half ( if you are seriously in need of cash) and retain the rest till when market sentiment will favour them. Conversely, if the volume is small, sell everything and move on. I feel for you though looking at the gap between your buy price and current market price. This tells me you were wrongly advised or bought out of follow follow. Anyways, I will advise you always do your DD very well or clarify things with experience members on this forum before diving into the market. |

RabbiDoracle:True to a point |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Onuokwu: 3:47pm On Mar 10, 2018 |
DUNKA:It all depends on you. You probably bought those stocks in mid to late 2016. If it were me, my play here will be to cut my losses, dispose those shares and try new trades with better advice. By the way i bought UAC at N21 and sold at N12.21 when it did not look like it had a future. Sine then I had speculated in other shares that has more than covered those losses and believe it or not, i am back at UAC at N16.65. Volatility is the traders partner. Another golden nugget is "be very impatient with a loosing stock and very patient with a winning one". Beware of trying to average down your costs....the market is unpredictable and like they say, if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by pluto09(m): 3:49pm On Mar 10, 2018 |
kolaish:DS has already paid N0.50k as interim dividend. Just put this into consideration in your expectations of bumper dividend. I personally don't expect DS to pay more than N1.00 as final dividend for the year. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by pluto09(m): 4:03pm On Mar 10, 2018 |
DUNKA:Mobil and JB have been experiencing dwindling fortune in their operations for sometimes now . Don't know why you bought them in the first place, but if it were to be about value I will advise that you sell and cut your loses since nobody can say when those companies will see a turn around. On the other hand you might have bought based on some other considerations, may be by revelation or so,you might decide to wait it out and see to the end of it. |

fxuser:My Oga, kindly throw more light. The cash involved, even the commissions involved, can embolden you to slap Dangote, especially that it is a deal across the river. Looks like a fight involving a Lion and an African Buffalo. We need to know the cause of conflict as well. Who is firing and who is taking cover? |
