Hello Seun.
My Honda CRV (2003 model), consumes too much fuel... The fuel consumption is very abnormal.I was told to change oxygen censors & catalyst.
I have changed these severally and it keeps getting worse.
Pls what is the solution to this problem?

Vehicle may need a tune up, intake leak may be involved etc. Diagnosis will be required. Is the check engine light on? If yes, you need to pull codes.

The engine light isn,t on.
The last mechanic I met diagnosed it.
He said the consumption was at 1.6, and he dropped it to 1.4 which reduced the vehicles performance (acceleration).

What do u mean by "tune up" & "pull code"?

Pull codes: plug in a scanner and check for codes. Check fuel trims while at it.

Tune up:
Check fuel pressure, fuel filters and injectors for deposits.
Check spark plugs for wear and spark gaps. Check coils.
Check air filters.
Inspect intake for leaks.

I have a gear issue with my corolla 05. when the car is stationary for a while (eg in traffic), it will refuse to drive after awhile, then jerks when I pump the accelerator further to force it to move. I was told by a kazeem that I have to replace the gear entirely. I scanned the vehicle, and this is the codes P0420 and P2716.

any suggestion?

Most generic scanners will work fine for private use. Check online for prices. Prices will be dependent on type of scanner.

Not sure about the price of engine and transmission right now, but you are likely going above half a mil for engine alone.

No serious issues I know of. Although, i've heard a few people report rear camber issues on that model.

My mechanic just finished some repair work on my car. Now, it makes a high pitch sound on cold start. I took it back to him today but he still couldn't fix it. What could be the cause? This screeching noise only happens on cold start. I'm looking forward to your response. Thanks

Scanned & got P0685 ECM/PCM power relay control circuit/ open...Car went into limp mode.. Managed it home like that, the scenerio happen four times before I got home,

Found the what i was looking for, R4(fuel pump relay) was the problem,coil resistance was around 56ohms, Should be above 120ohms.
Temporary fix: Swapped it with R3(Accessories relay), pending when I get a replacement.

P2716: Pressure Control Solenoid 'D'.

What is the level and condition of the transmission oil? What is the history of transmission oil replacement?

Modified: 05-08 Corolla and Matrix has a recall to address the ECM issues of those particular models. The issue will give the type of transmission issue you described. A part of the recall statement goes thus:

"On vehicles equipped with the 1ZZ-FE engine and two-wheel drive, there is a possibility that a crack may develop at certain solder points or on the electronic component used to protect circuits against excessive voltage (varistor), on the ECM’s circuit board. In most cases, if a crack occurs at certain solder points or on certain varistors, the check engine may illuminate, harsh shifting could result, or the engine may not start. In limited instances, if cracking occurs on particular solder points or varistors, the engine could stop while the vehicle is being driven".

If above is the issue, there will be a need to resolder specific points on the ECM to resolve the issue. You need someone to inspect the ECM to be sure if this is the case.

Second code is not transmission related.

****I checked the level of transmission oil this morning and it needs guaging. However, I had experience the code P2716 around November last year. My car would jerk forward while driving. I was asked to change the ECU (45K) to solve the bad solenoid problem. However, the check light still persisted, although the jerking reduced a bit. But now, it jerks and drag (doesnt enter gear swiftly). in addition to the code P2716, I now have a defected catalyst issue.
