Episode 4 - The midnight call

I got back home under the scorching sun. I took a shower, ate and slept till evening.
I picked up my phone after charging it for hours, its working perfectly. That's one thing about these nokia phones, they are never die. Then, i dialed her number.... Ring ring and she picked at the 3rd ring.
Hello baby. Who is your baby, she replied. Hmm, I was mute for few seconds. She continued, why are you now silent? I don't mean to shut you, but i am not a baby.
'No, i was just pulling your legs too', i tried to twist it. But, there's something I've been wanting to tell you. Can i call you by midnight? so we can talk for long, i asked.
Yes, if I wake up i will pick up, you can. She agreed.
Ok dear, take care of yourself. I hanged the call.
I quickly walked to buy a hundred naira mtn recharge card for my midnight mission. Midnight call was usually free on most networks but the most popular is mtn extracool. Without a minimum balance of 100naira, the free call won't work. So i kept my recharge card to avoid any deduction before midnight because i do not trust this mtn people.
I asked my roommate to borrow me his phone so i can listen to some Celine dion, 2face songs and gather inspiration. He's using a nokia xpress music phone but his phone is filled with meaningless songs, when i say trash playlist, you know what i mean. Out of about 100 songs on his memory card, 30 terry G songs, with a lot of other naija street songs like kolomental, ofokasibe. I was able to select the few blues love songs, and tuface songs. With earpiece plugged in, i slept lightly till past 12am.
I woke up at around 12:30am without an alarm, that feeling when your mind is switched on even while you are asleep.
I dialed her number, she picked up. Hello how are you, she said.
I'm fine and you?
Then we started talking generally, about school, her family and mine, what she ate at night before sleeping, beating about the bush as if we don't know why we woke up to call. After a while, the conversation was almost fading. I started confessing my love to her. Your voice is so lovely, from the very first day i met you girl, I've been attracted to you. I always dream of a perfect girl, someone with a pretty look, moderate boobs and body shape, intelligent and lovely. Since i met you, your intelligence amazes me, your body so flawless, killing charisma, smile charming and your nice attitudes have got me buried in affection. A single day wouldn't pass by without me thinking about you lolade. I know this might sound strange to you but i really want you to be mine. You aren't perfect as nobody is, but i think you are the closest to perfection. I want to be closer to you, i want us to be together, i love u.

Girl, that's not a problem, this can't bring about a setback in our academics. We can even be reading partners. I promise our relationship wouldn't be a problem. I want you to put yoursef in my shoes. How do i think straight, i will always be scared of losing you to someone else, if i never had you. Please give me a chance and let's watch everything work out.

I was just so confused and stressed at the same time. I felt so unhappy because I'm not getting the positive reply i want to hear. My voices were not the same. I asked her if we can meet at the school's library after exam the next day. She said no problem.
So after exam, we need to free our mind a little and catch some fun, i said. I suggest we go to that campus cinema to watch a movie. That would be lovely, or what do you think?

I was laying on my bed, thinking about what I've done. Am i wrong to have toasted her? Maybe it was too early, but i can't still slow down till someone else ask her out. Girls are unpredictable, if i dont say anything now, thats how i will remain just a friend forever. That's nonsense, i will always feel the pain. I said to myself. I feel like i can't find sleep until I woke up around 7am, that i realized I've slept off. I rushed out of bed to prepare for school. Exam is ending today, thank God. Let me get ready to end this exam of a thing and have a free life. Our worries begin again when the result is out. School sweet but na exam spoil am.

Episode 5- Magic moments

I got up from bed, took my bath and was dressing up for school. The exam for the day which was our last paper for the semester was slated for 10a.m. I was already set for school at 8am, i took my handout, sat on the chair in my room and was revising ahead of the paper. The revision i should have done during the night, i spent the night talking to a girl. I was trying to fit in the points I've underlined and jotted in the handout as much as i can, when tobi came into my room. Tobi is one of my neighbors, he came in wandering around the house like a jobless human being. He's busy reading a novel which he held opened in his hand. I didn't even pay attention to the book he's holding since i know it's of no use to me now. I asked him, 'tobi what are you looking for, don't you have any exam today? He responded, I'm having by 2pm and thats my last paper. I've overread that course I'm just relaxing my brain with novel and by 12 I'll just skim through the notes again and go for the exam.
So you are relaxing your brain with novel, by reading again, see human being o, you love book too much. I said to him. Let me even see the book you are reading. I collected the novel, and looked at the page he opened, the line my eyes first caught on the page was 'don't only tell her you love her, show her, People might forget what you tell them, but they will never forget how you make them feel'. The quotes just synced with my present condition. I spent all the night telling this girl, how much i loved her, maybe i haven't really showed her. I said to myself.
Tobi left the room and its already 9am, so i left for school in order to meet up for the exam.
The exam started at exactly 10 and ended around past 12 in the afternoon.
After the paper, i went to the student union building (SUB) to eat. That's where most of the restaurants in the school premises are. I haven't had breakfast, so i ordered a plate of eba with vegatable soup at the ibo joint, and topped it with a bottle of coke. After the meal, i called my friend lolade and asked her where she was. She said she's also at SUB, but in a different restaurant. I described where i was to her, so she can come and meet me. Not too long, she came in, and joined me on my table.
What would u like to eat? i asked.
She said she has eaten already before i called. So we were seated there, gisting about the happenings in school.
She told me about a guy that was toasting her in the college. The guy is a 300 level student of mechanical engineering. His name is Tade. She said she turned him down when he said he wants her to be his girlfriend. He always disturb her whenever he meets her in school and over the phone. I didn't even know how he got my number, she said. I don't even like him at all, and can never give him attention. He brags a lot, and acts bossy. He told me he's an exco in the engineering students' association, so i would not be paying annual dues again if i accept his love proposal. He even said i won't fail any course, that he knows all the lecturers in COLENG very well and he will help me out if i have any problem. Imagine, as if he's the Dean of COLENG or The V. C, stupid boy. He thinks I'm stupid like him. I gave him his last warning last week never to disturb me again , since then I've had rest of mind. She said.
I just smiled and told her that's the best thing she has done because those boys usually take advantage of the naivety of the fresh students. They normally term it 'catch them young'. Just look at all the lies he has cooked, some girls might fall for the sweet talks, thinking he can help them. Someone that i know very well, he has three carry over courses, and he's saying he will help you not to fail, when he can't help himself.
Then i thought, this is a sign that a girl is into you, when they start sharing stories like this with you. I had a deep breath. I think we should be going now, i said to her.
We stood up and left the restaurant, walking back towards the lecture halls. We ran into Tade coming to the SUB as we leave. He saw us and looked away as if he didn't see lolade. I said, is that not your friend lolade, he didn't even greet you. She replied, who cares? That's his problem not mine. We kept on walking slowly into the school. The film show will start at 5pm, and we are still at 2pm in the afternoon. I asked, so how are we going to spend our time till 5. If we should go home, I'm not sure we will come back into this school again today.
So, would you go to the female hostel to visit your friends till when its time. No, i don't feel like, where will you now stay, she asked me. Let's go to the main library, is that not where you asked us to meet during the call? She said.
See, me I'm not going to the library, now that exam has finished, i don't even want any book near me for now, even billboards i no go read, Please.
We later agreed to go to the sport centre and play some games and watch the football match being played. We both played chess and scrabble in the sport complex. She's very good in scrabble, she won some games but i was the overall winner.
We had a very interesting moment, she's social and adapt easily to every environment. When we were watching football at the school field, she's already shouting gooaaal, jumping, reacting to dribbles without even looking at my side. Saying awww he missed it, when a striker loses an attempt on goal and all sort of expression and reaction to the match. I was surprised because most of these girls ask, what do you guys see in football self, running up and down kicking one round object. But hers is different, she's enjoying the sport.
I held her hand, turned her wrist and looked into her eyes. I see love in her eyes, but she's trying hard to conceal it. I looked at her wrist again to check the time from her wristwatch. Its almost 5pm, time to head for the movies.
Lolade lets go before the viewing starts, so we can get the movie tickets at the entrance. I helped her up from the seat and off we go to the jao hall used for cinema. Its the finest lecture hall in school as at that time with about 1500 seats capacity, its has curtains over all the windows, good lighting and fully air-conditioned. It is just a special hall, that the school takes care of very much. Students are not allowed to misbehave in this hall. I bought two tickets for the both of us at the price of 200naira each. Students were moving into the hall in a coordinated manner until we were all seated. The movie started on the big screen, all other lights in the room switched off and additional sound system makes it feel like a real cinema. The movie was so interesting, its funny and romantic. 'Crazy, stupid, love,' i think is the title of the movie.
We bought popcorns and fanta drinks, we munch the popcorn and sip drinks as we watch the movie.
There was one guy in the movie, his fashion style italian, swag American, and a sharp playboy. He gets every girl he wants and every girl fall for him, even lolade was tripping, i can detect from her reactions when its his scene. If i have the skills and swags this guy have got, i would have gotten this girl long ago, from the day we met. I thought.
She was really enjoying the movie, smiling and happy. The bad guy as we call it, is a pro in picking up girls. He met an older guy who was recently divorced and was worried. The bad guy cheered the divorcee up and taught him moves to get girls in a flick. We were enjoying their stunts till the end of the movie. I think I've learnt one or two things from this movie, i said to myself. I held her close to me, giving her a side hug. The movie was over and i asked her if she enjoyed it. Yes! I do she said
No no no, I'm not saying will you marry me.... I joked. She laughed and hit me softly with her hands calling me, naughty boy.
We were walking to the bus park to get a cab. The skies are already getting dark, its 7:30 in the evening already. We stopped under a cashew tree close to the university library. We held hands facing each other, looking at each other for a while saying nothing.
She stared at me, and i can feel her hands cold with love, her heart beats that i could hear. I asked her lolade, what is it. She just said demola, i love you. I wasn't expecting it, i was already thinking of using the opportunity of the position we are to start toasting her again. Just to be sure, i asked her , lolade what did u just say.
She repeated herself, demola i think I'm loving you.
God! I had best feeling I've ever had inside of me that moment. I moved my lips close to hers, trying to kiss her. She also moved closer, and we had a short kiss... It was so lovely kissing her soft lips. I felt like I'm in heaven, what a magical moment. We hugged each other very tight as i whispered into her ears, lolade i love you too. We stayed there for a little while and headed for the car park where we board a cab and went to our different homes. I was still feeling the touch of her lips on mine till i got home. I was happy at last. I hope our love lasts forever. I said to myself.
