Hello great authors/writers.

I'm a lover of written literature most especially children and teens category.

Is it that we don't have time for writing children and teens novels or its not marketable?

We have many authors here on nairaland, but i have never seen any advertise literary work for the children.

Why?

The market for it is not Large.

How many children will come online to read literature texts?

In schools, they only use some selected literature texts.

How many children are on Nairaland, so you want them to start writing for children. Register your child then you can start writing for him or her, but when they start viewing topics in romance section, no complain oooooo

I think the market is poor, why? Because parents these days only concentrate on buying books recommended by school for their children. My opinion though

Most children now prefer iPads and smartphones. Reading books is gradually becoming boring to them.

'Adult stuffs' are now thought in primary and secondary schools. Today's kids know way far more than what their mates knew a decade ago. Why would you expect children books to be published for adults? LMAO.

If you mean African writers, then I would say it's due to the market forces... Besides, the copyright © laws here are not efficient enough to protect those literary works.

But worldwide, there are still lots of children books being published. Perhaps limited access to those and the downturn of reading habits in these parts have made it less obvious.

The children themselves are tired of the literatures. Everybody is waiting for 2019

I think it all boils down to the decline in reading culture in the country, most children are rather exposed to watching cartoons and games on minipads, which has reduced the demands for children's books, and writers cannot write what people would not buy.

Times have changed and unfortunately parents only encourage kids to read within the recommended syllabus.
In specifics say what age range are you looking at?

In Nigeria, government recommends books for primary and secondary schools, therefore if you write any book without connection to any top government officials in the federal ministry of education bro na only you and your family go read the book undecided

I'll go with other above and say there is an issue with our reading culture.

Which child has time for a library...physical or online?

Books should be read to acquire knowledge...but some people read books just to pass an exam

For most Nigerian authors, children literature does not sell unlike the imported ones such as beauty and the beast, Cinderella, Sleeping beauty et al. Even in the aspect of literature in the mother language, there's been a drastic reduction because they are no longer being patronized. Sometimes the publishers are guilty of not publishing the books in beautiful materials that can pop-up as the children open them hence, the books are less attractive. But overall, we don't have a government that will help the writers by regulating books being proliferated in our schools. Except the author will monitor his own work to the publishing aspect and do self marketing of his books, we may rely wholly on Snow White and others for more generations to come.

the Nigerian educational sphere of interest is on decline. The interest is no longer there. The market is shrinking and do you want them to make books people are not willing to buy? Nigeria's reading culture is diminishing everyday.
