They say the devil is in the details.

Let me share some figures I stumbled upon from Nairametrics.

Some Statistics about Uber in Nigeria and Africa

Uber reported that in Nigeria, it has about 267,000 riders who actively utilize the app/service and 7,000 drivers.

Its driver and riders population as at 2017 :

South Africa 12,000/969,000.

Kenya 5,000/363,000

Ghana 3,000/140,000

Uganda 1,000/48,000.

Tanzania 1,000/53,000 respectively.

At just 39 riders available to each driver, Uber drivers in Nigeria have by far the lowest pool of customers where they can draw from in Sub Saharan Africa.

South Africa in contrast has about 81 riders per driver, dwarfing Nigeria by 2 folds.

Ghana which is a far smaller economy than Nigeria even has 47 riders per driver.

Nigeria is the lowest when it comes to the number of riders per driver.

For current Uber Partners and would be Partners, the data should also raise red flags concerning the viability of this partnership.

Having access to just 39 riders per driver is not an encouraging sign for several reasons.

For example, it means that with fewer riders, fares will likely remain depressed for longer while the number of rides available for each driver per day will be limited.

Bros, why not look at it this way...

I will only compare Nigeria and SA

It is true that the ratio of Rider to driver in Nigeria is poor (1:39) compared with other countries like South Africa (1:81) but we can't just drown the information without critical analysis

In South Africa, Uber is in 4 major cities (from Uber website)

Johannesburg and Pretoria (8.27m)
Cape Town (4m)
Durban (3.70m)
Port Elizabeth (1.26m)

I've included their population (in brackets) as at August 2016.
The combined population of these cities is about 18m people

Out of the 18m people in the four cities in SA where Uber operates, almost 1m (962,000) are riders giving a ratio of 1:18.

i.e One of of 18 people living in these cities use Uber

In Nigeria, Uber is only in Abuja and Lagos.

Lagos as April 2018 according to wiki has a population of 40m (this is debatable), though according to Lagos State government, the population ọf Lagos is approximately 21m as at 2012 (6 years ago oooooo)

Abuja as at 2010 was dubbed the fastest growing city in the world, in 2016 it was the fastest growing city in Africa with a population of about 9m According to wiki

Combined population of the week cities (using LASG figures) is about 30,000,000 people.

The population of riders in the two combined cities is 267,000

Giving a ratio of 1 : 112 people.

Simply put, 1 in 112 people in the combined cities use Uber

If I use Lagos 2018 figures, combined population will be 61m, infact the population of Alimosho Local Government alone (8m) can comfortable compete with the figures of Johannesburg and Pretoria combined (8.27m).

Using a combined population of 61m against riders of 267,000, we have a ratio of 1 : 228 people

Simply put only 1 in 228 people in the combined cities are Uber riders.

Dear Partners and drivers what does the figure show you?

For me, it shows only one thing........best described by T Y Bello's song.....The land is green, is green..........

As for as Uber Nigeria is concerned it's still very nascent compared to the opportunities that abound

Why do you think Uber and Taxify engages in aggressive marketing and strategies? Power tussles? Hell No!

Boss, before you discourage any one, think am well

By the time Uber gets to Rivers State, Kano, etc.....you can only imagine...

Do you have 5w20 and 5w30 full synthetic... not high mileage

The high mileage Mobil 1 is actually the best in the full synthetic series.

The major difference with the advanced full synthetic is the high mileage has better protection for higher engine temperatures and it prevents oil shortage/leaks especially for those switching from non synthetic oil to synthetic.

I use the high mileage for my Honda with just 45000 kilometers and it's fine. In fact I use it for my generators too. In the long run, this things are worth the price.

Meanwhile, I have 2 these for sale at a ridiculous price of 12k each.

talking about being a boss, someone on this thread claimed to have been emancipated from the bonds of rental, and had bought his own vehicle, I was happy for the individual, and decided to donate 21,000 worth of synthetic engine oil to celebrate with him.
Up till today I am yet to hear from him.

Please if you are the one, kindly disregard my offer, I will hold on to my goods.

After like 3hours I called her to confirm n she sent me screenshot of her debit but am yet to get alert since 8:50am. I’ve taken 2 other riders that did transfer and got their alert.Am I being scammed or what? Should I tell Uber? Note that she sent me a screenshot of her debit and I’ve checked my GTBank online and no alert from her yet.

wait for 24hrs. Transfer should go within 24hrs. If u don’t get it, report it to Uber. They reimburse you. But it’s adivsable you have your bank app. Transfer comes to bank app before you get sms alert. Next time Incase of delays you login in your app, check your account balance before sms alert.

Festac? by 12 in the afternoon? sorry bro, i don't think thats good positioning.. correct me if im wrong but festac is mostly residential..By 12pm most people in festac are already at work..

Except the jobless once, or the ones that are going out
late. But dont wait too long.

I ll suggest you find a commercial place there, maybe where there are banks or where there is a market.. 'Mrs Alabi' could have just finished from the market, and she has load to carry, and there's hot sun, so she decides to book an uber and enjoy AC small. Then you ll be there to pick her.

If you have the mind to blow fuel, i ll suggest you leave festac. Costain isnt really far, from costain head to balogun market. before you reach there you suppose don get request.

If you dont, then its really a bad day.

This is what I think, correct me if im wrong.

This is to all old Uber and Taxify drivers in the House. I hail all of you o. Trust all is doing well and I hope you all are gauging your progress as you all go about your daily bread. This hustle or hustling shouldn't just be about daily bread tho' that is the purpose of this msg. pls go learn other good skills if you don't have one already. I am certain, non of the drivers that started Uber/Taxify 2years ago cannot afford a plot of land in ibafo as we speak. But a plumber/ electrician/ mechanics that knows his job and hardworking can conveniently do. Not to discourage any one but admonition. There is no future in driving Uber. Uber as a coy is just using u to build their future while you keep sustaining till you are unable to drive anymore. The health hazard is more on driver's side than two other parties. ( Uber and riders). Guys think your life and use your head. A word is enough. Thanks!
