Good afternoon, everyone. I filled d form on monday. My fbn tb officer promised to notify & select for me when he sees d longest tenor possible in d sec market. Since monday, he hasn't got it as promised. Early this morning, i called him to buy anyone like 60-78 daY tenors dt can mature b4 d july nysc batch. After d maturatn, i'll then submit a bid in d pry mkt & but shortly b4 orientatn camp opens. The guy hasn't called nor answer his calls since. If long tenor is scarce, can't i get a short one in d sec mkt too?

Uber is one business that is worth investing in if you’d like to earn ₦120,000 monthly on a ₦1,200,000 investment. The 2 most important factors to succeed in the business are getting a practical car that is in good working condition. As well as getting a good and trustworthy driver.

E-hailing companies accepts 2003 and above four door cars. However, buying a 2003-2006 model is better so the car can repay itself on time whilst having a life span of 3 to 4 years on the platform before they yank if off.

When choosing the most practical car to use, you have to consider the following factors: Purchase cost, fuel economy, good air conditioner, reliability, maintenance cost, life span, resale value etc..

Despite how lucrative the business is, I noticed several cars have been pulling out of the Uber business due to accidents, reliability issues, poor maintenance, bad mechanics, fuel consumption especially vehicles with 6 cylinder engines etc.

I want to talk about investment and return on investment (ROI) in the context of E-hailing business (uber, taxify, oga taxi)
So I was researching fixed deposit rates, not to invest but to get a comparison between that and an investment in Uber.

The best rate I was able to get was 3% on a 30 day fix, that is, if you left your money with the bank for 30 days, they would give you an appreciation on your capital of 3%. So I though, let's choose a nominal figure for the sake of this post, a figure of say #1,200,000.

If you fix #1,200,000 naira on a percentage of 3%, at the end of the term, you make a profit (or interest) of 36,000 naira. A whooping sum of #9000 per week. I believe there is also a service charge, though negligible, it will affect your bottom line.

Now let us look at an equivalent investment on Uber,
Now that e-hailing companies is accepting year 2003 cars and newer.
Let's say you invest in Uber with #1,200,000.
You are guaranteed returns of #120,000 per month
, 30,000 per week.

From my layman calculation that is about 8% compared to fixed deposits' 3%.

Quite a difference when the capital we speak of is #1,200,000 .

Now, I think you may speak of risk. Fixed deposits are essentially risk free, while Uber carries certain risks; accident, theft, fire etc., but that is where insurance comes in. For about #50,000 naira you can negate all risks, for up to 1 year. Over the course of a year, that is 4000 every month. Risk averted.
If we were to deduct interest from risk premium (insurance) we get a profit of 116,000 per month, still much higher than fixed deposit.

One legitimate concern of course is, what happens to mechanic costs when you have to fix the car (this is a variable and highly dependent on other factors, also it is unpredictable so I won't calculate that here), if you get a good vehicle, you don't have to worry about mechanic costs.

So how do you get a good car? Leave that to us, we can help you source for well-maintained vehicles from reputable car dealerships.
As fleet managers, we can help you purchase sound vehicles for your investment.

It is worthy to mention that no investment vehicle (no pun intended) is devoid of risk, fixed deposits are affected by inflation while Uber vehicles are affected by depreciation.

I think any investment that out performs the local fixed deposit rates is a good investment. Think about it.

Invest in Uber today.

Do you think he is happy that you want to take the money away from his bank and invest with Fed Government?

You simply played into his hands and you have given him "an open cheque" .

It's been said severally on this tread that it's not advisable to involve your account officer whenever you want to go for NTB. You move to any branch of your bank and simply ask for the Treasury Bills officer there and ask for the available tenors without his knowledge and invest..

Well, you are now learning some of their antics now

Hmmmmmmmmmm. We are gradually sliding towards the 10% mark with 91days tenor already at 10.9%.

I hope we won't get there by July this year.

All the same, it's still a lot better than savings and fix deposit rates. That's my consolation.

Can you imagine today's NTB bid for 364days tenor?
A whopping 1626% over subscription!!!
That's a pointer to what to expect In 2weeks time as more people are trying to lock their money into the longest tenor before it gets to 10% or lower coupled with the dwindling amount made available by CBN.

This is definitely going to force the rates down faster than I even envisaged.

Anybody debited yet 364 days ?
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by katamo: 2:53pm On Apr 19, 2018
This is what I indicated last month when I said that rates may go as low as 10% this year. If crude prices continue to be strong, GDP growth remians positive, and inflation continues on a downward trend, a 10% rate for the 364-day tenure is very possible, even likely, at some point this year.

katamo:
I agree with feelamong and TONY56 and will add some additional thoughts.

The Nigerian government issued a large amount of TB over the last couple of years to support increased government spending which was mechanism to stimulate the economy and bring us out of recession. Since oil prices were low, government had to issue a mix of TB bills (which were very costly at about 17-18% interest) and Eurobonds (much cheaper at about 7%). Now that the price of oil has started to recover (which translates into more money for the government) and the economy is technically out of recession, government will look to phase out high-cost TB borrowings by reducing the amount issued/rolled over.

If these economic indicators continue to be positive, we can expect to see TB rates continue to go down. Investors are trying to lock in higher rates now for a longer term (364 days) as TB rates are expected to continue to decrease in the near term. I personally see rates falling below 10% (for 364 days bills) sometime this year, all things being equal.

We might even see single digits for Treasury Bill rates before the end of the year....
