200,000 is still a gross over-exaggeration. There probably aren't up to 100,000 Nigerians/Nigerian-Americans in Illinois. You might feel that there are more because of your social circle but there aren't official numbers put the total number of Nigerians in America at less than 500k (it's actually quite a bit less).

And I know the Oak Park/River Forest area. Very well.
I live on Harlem/Chicago not far from the famous Architect house. My wife and children were all born in Chicago and I counted them as Nigerian Americans. I believe we have that many Nigerians in Chicagoland area. That's what I meant by Nigerians. All my four broods carry both American and Nigerian passports to ease their travels whenever they want to go with me and their mum to visit my parents. That's where most Nigerian Americans still think of their Nigerian blood.

I think I concur with you. I met a man in USA when I last traveled who said he's 63 years old. He goes to get free food donated by the African ministry every Thursday. He said he prefers living in USA to coming back home and this guy doesn't have papers. He's got no achievement to point to. I just pitied him.

Where did you pull your figure of 1 million from?

Why do Nigerians think that their problems are going to be solved by somebody else?

As of 2015 there were over 2.1 million Africans living in the USA known to the government and at least half of that number not known to them. Nigerians represents about 35% of all the African population in the USA so you do the math.

That's not true!

If that was the case then why have there been a high influx of Nigerians on expired and unexpired temporary US visas flooding into Canada illegally through the US-Canadian border seeking for asylum?

If those Nigerians who are granted US visas are really with high paying jobs and quite successful in Nigeria then they should not be overstaying their presence in the US or crossing illegally into Canada to seek fake asylum.

Learner.... did u hear about the recent mass resignations in pwc and miraculously all of them are in Canada

So you think because Canada is more liberal, they should just throw their borders open for any illegal immigrant in US. Just to enlighten your ignorant suggestion, Canada population is mere 36 million compare to US that is over 325 million. Influx of illegal immigrants from US will significantly affect the welfare system and economic plan of the country.

For the quoted above, after September 11, you need a visa to enter Canada from US and vice versa unless you have a Canadian passport or US passport. Even a permanent resident in Canada needs a visa to enter US and same applies to US permanent resident. The fact that Canada is still accepting these illegal immigrants without Canadian visas shows how hospitable Canada is. US will never do the same if it were to be the other way round. US should get their shiit together and be accountable for people they give visiting visa
Just so you know. Canada and US are 2 separate countries.

Asylum Seekers dont need a visa to enter any country because they are fleeing from persecution from their country of origin.Asylum seekers can come in through boats ,expired or unexpired visas ,fake passports etc grin. The pulling factor for Nigerians going to Canada now is the permanent residence granted if their asylum case is approved ,You get to apply for Canadian passport after 4 years.

Have always wondered how many Nigerians are living in US illegally ?. I know we have over 200.000 Nigerians in Chicagoland and a sizeable number of them are undocumented some of whom I know personally. I always tell them to go and get married to obtain their papers because the bigot in the WH won't mind to send them back to Nigeria if they ever get caught. Plus who wants to live in a country with fear of getting caught and deported.

Yea, even the 200,000 is what is known to the government, I would actually put the figure close to 400,000 with about 150,000 being illegal immigrants. In Atlanta, New York and Maryland we have similar figures.

I will accord you benefit of doubt that you're knowledgeable enough to know that having US visiting visa and getting screened by the so called stringent security checks guarantee you absolute no entry into Canada.
If you have a visiting visa to Canada and decide to seek asylum base on socio-political situation in your country, Canada is more than welcoming to hear your story, or if you are in a warring region and you are seeking refuge in Canada, Canada is willing to look at your case and grant you stay if they deem fit. That's what Trudeau implies with his #welcometocanada tweet smartypants.
Just to summarise everything for you again smarty, if US gives anyone visiting visa, they should be responsible for them. And having US visa gives you zero access to Canada. Canada is an entire separate country from US. Canada is highly welcoming to new immigrants if you deal with Canada directly.

I hope I have given you enough benefit of doubt.

Clearly, you have issues comprehending simple use of English.

I'd ask you a simple question: Is the US security check one of the most stringent in the world or not?

Because it appears your id*ocy is congenital!

And yes, very well it should be.

The Canadian government is now urging the US embassy in Nigeria to stop gving out visas like candy to Nigerian applicants who seek US visas and that they should try to use more stricter screening measures to ensure that Nigerians who are granted US visitor visas do intend to return back to Nigeria.

Huh...it obvious that these people dont know that some Nigerian are very good expert liars when it comes to convincing the US visas officers to grant them visas. undecided

It doesnt make any sense. Why does Canada Govt keep those borders open is still a question left unanswered. They clearly have their motives.

You don't have to result into insult to pass your point if you are smart enough. To put in the simplest term possible because of your comprehension inability, if US like they should have most stringent security check in the world. Canada doesn't want their illegal immigrants

Just to enlighten your ignorant ass further, Canada geographical location makes it one of the most difficult places to access in the world and one of the most secured countries in the world. They should deport every single violator of visa stipulations back to Nigeria. Every single one. If you want asylum, apply through the stipulated channels. If you travel on a visitor's visa, return after the stipulated time rather than hiding around. Africans should be part of the solutions to the problems of the continent rather than trying to infest the rest of the world with their problems. Trust Nigerians to always be the most desperate. They saw Haitians moving to Canada, so trust them to hijack the process, the same way they saw Syrians, Libyans etc fleeing war to Europe and Nigerians hijacked the process too and became the no.1 illegal migrants to Europe. The funny thing is it wasn't people besieged by Boko Haram in Borno or Yobe that were fleeing to Europe but Edo, Igbo and Yoruba people wasting thousands of dollars that they could have invested into businesses to pay traffickers to aid them in their North African and Mediterranean crossing. These destination countries have to start being pretty ruthless if they want to end the illegal migrant siege.

That link puts the number at 327k Nigerians as opposed to 35% of 2,100,000 (735,000).

You are talking about official numbers; if there's anything that is sure about the USA, it is the fact that the government is clueless about the amount of undocumented immigrants in the country. In 2015 there were 2.1 million Africans known to the government, yet that figure does not include those who came in through passports from another country, those who crossed from Mexico, those whose visitors visa expires and so on. Remember there are several tools such as surveys, anonymous questionnaires, database from private NGOs that we audit and so on, which reveals nationalities of the respondents. I'm sorry can't reveal much more than that, just know that official numbers are only part of the total picture.
