mmsen:I live on Harlem/Chicago not far from the famous Architect house. My wife and children were all born in Chicago and I counted them as Nigerian Americans. I believe we have that many Nigerians in Chicagoland area. That's what I meant by Nigerians. All my four broods carry both American and Nigerian passports to ease their travels whenever they want to go with me and their mum to visit my parents. That's where most Nigerian Americans still think of their Nigerian blood. 2 Likes |

lagdmark:I think I concur with you. I met a man in USA when I last traveled who said he's 63 years old. He goes to get free food donated by the African ministry every Thursday. He said he prefers living in USA to coming back home and this guy doesn't have papers. He's got no achievement to point to. I just pitied him. 4 Likes 1 Share |

mmsen: As of 2015 there were over 2.1 million Africans living in the USA known to the government and at least half of that number not known to them. Nigerians represents about 35% of all the African population in the USA so you do the math. 1 Like |

hilroy:Asylum Seekers dont need a visa to enter any country because they are fleeing from persecution from their country of origin.Asylum seekers can come in through boats ,expired or unexpired visas ,fake passports etc .The pulling factor for Nigerians going to Canada now is the permanent residence granted if their asylum case is approved ,You get to apply for Canadian passport after 4 years. 1 Like |

Abbeybailey: Yea, even the 200,000 is what is known to the government, I would actually put the figure close to 400,000 with about 150,000 being illegal immigrants. In Atlanta, New York and Maryland we have similar figures. |

LordAdam16: You don't have to result into insult to pass your point if you are smart enough. To put in the simplest term possible because of your comprehension inability, if US like they should have most stringent security check in the world. Canada doesn't want their illegal immigrants Just to enlighten your ignorant ass further, Canada geographical location makes it one of the most difficult places to access in the world and one of the most secured countries in the world. The only fools Canada have to deal with are the ones from south of the border with their ignoramus president 7 Likes 1 Share |

They should deport every single violator of visa stipulations back to Nigeria. Every single one. If you want asylum, apply through the stipulated channels. If you travel on a visitor's visa, return after the stipulated time rather than hiding around. Africans should be part of the solutions to the problems of the continent rather than trying to infest the rest of the world with their problems. Trust Nigerians to always be the most desperate. They saw Haitians moving to Canada, so trust them to hijack the process, the same way they saw Syrians, Libyans etc fleeing war to Europe and Nigerians hijacked the process too and became the no.1 illegal migrants to Europe. The funny thing is it wasn't people besieged by Boko Haram in Borno or Yobe that were fleeing to Europe but Edo, Igbo and Yoruba people wasting thousands of dollars that they could have invested into businesses to pay traffickers to aid them in their North African and Mediterranean crossing. These destination countries have to start being pretty ruthless if they want to end the illegal migrant siege. 8 Likes |

And that is my problem with a lot of these people, they don't seem to understand that their infantile, unpreparedness and attachment to stupid cultural norms is the reason why Nigeria is the way that it is and that they are very much a part of the problem. 2 Likes |

mmsen: You are talking about official numbers; if there's anything that is sure about the USA, it is the fact that the government is clueless about the amount of undocumented immigrants in the country. In 2015 there were 2.1 million Africans known to the government, yet that figure does not include those who came in through passports from another country, those who crossed from Mexico, those whose visitors visa expires and so on. Remember there are several tools such as surveys, anonymous questionnaires, database from private NGOs that we audit and so on, which reveals nationalities of the respondents. I'm sorry can't reveal much more than that, just know that official numbers are only part of the total picture. |
