So on point

Nice analysis
I totally agree with you

Mind you, we aren't arguing here. We're just sharing ideas for everyone to pick points from

And you've made a nice analysis here
Kudos

Of course, I always welcome sharing ideas. One more thing, if truly that poster knows your real name, social media pages, phone number, etc. and that's what they posted, do the right thing and talk to them to remove it. The Internet never forgets stuff, you don't take chances with things like this. It's a very small world.

@Femi321 I'll let the matter slide. The first thing when giving a counter-argument is to understand the point of the original argument. As you have stated that you didn't understand the point I tried to make in what I wrote, I'll let it go. smiley

We've both made our points known. You're saying going for STEM courses would help someone's odds of achieving the American dream, and that's good. I'm saying people who can't go that path shouldn't beat themselves up and think they'd never succeed here, that's all.

Thank you. smiley

I understood what you were saying about f1 visa bla bla bla but it was not relevant to the initial discourse. That is good but I never said they should beat themselves up or they wont succeed. No one has power to say or know whether someone will succeed or not except God. My whole point was your second sentence in paragraph 2. I am glad we could still argue without insults here, I thought those days were long gone. Have a good day smiley

It's always good to engage in thoughtful discussions and learn from people.

Yeah the mods will remove it

Moreover, there is nothing incriminating about what he posted.

He didn't say I stole money
He didn't say I duped anyone

He only said I borrowed money and he lend me money.

Anyways, the mods will remove it soon, but trust me, I'm not bothered by that at all. It's one of the prices people pay in life to get to the top. I'm not the first person to be blackmailed and I wont be the last. It's a normal occurrence in life.

Thanks for caring

This is exactly the mindset I criticized with my post. Saying you "disagree with the bolded" simply means you're saying having a creative arts/insurance background means you're sure to fail in the U.S if you don't change to Engineering, IT or Medicine. I will NEVER accept that. Changing to those things guarantee absolutely NOTHING! Again, not thinking outside the box is the reason people fail.

I'll simply remind you that at the time of VISA applications/interviews, everyone tells the VO they ONLY wanna go study and go back to their country. All the ideas about OPT/H1B visa etc plans after school (if we're strictly going by the book) ARE ILLEGAL. I'm sure you know that having/hiding an immigrant intent during a NON-IMMIGRANT visa application is illegal and that's already a reasonable ground for denial.

If you don't believe me, someone here should go for a visa interview and when asked why they chose the program/school, they should say: "because it's a STEM program, after graduation, good companies will hire me and I stand a better chance of getting H1B visa".

My point: people who sit on the moral high ground with the same IMMIGRANT INTENT, should not come here discouraging a section of people who wouldn't do things their way and encouraging anothers. There are other ways to become an immigrant and have a life in the U.S., it's not just for programmers/nurses/engineers and that's why I always say leave people to think outside the box and have a plan with their life.

Let's be consistent! If we wanna advise people to come here to study, let's do JUST that! Encourage them to study and go back to where they're coming from. If we wanna start advising people on how to achieve their American dreams (whatever the dreams are), let's level the playing field.

The American dream is NOT only for students on scholarship, first class graduates, engineering/IT/Medical majors. Anyone in life can be successful in anything they set their hearts on with good planning and a bit of luck.

Thanks fam

I haven't started the visa process yet. Will do so in the next few days.

cool

I greet everyone, please i need advice.

I tried to calculate GPA using free WES calculator, when i type in all the courses i did for 5yrs in engineering and click calculate the WES calculator will return me to the first page for me start all over again. I have done this several times.

But if i just do it year by year i will get the calculations, also that is how it is done in my transcript, after first year they get the cgpa, like that for 5yrs then the average is 2.87/5.

My problem is that when i did WES year by year and take the average for 5yrs i get gpa 2.822 which i assume is now on 4point scale.

Which means my cgpa of 2.87/5 is now gpa 2.822/4

Am i getting it all wrong, remember if i put all the 5yrs courses in WES calculator it keep returning me back to first page.

Please anyone can contribute ,thanks in advance.

Ok,
Can i assume that the GPA on 4 point scale will be a little bit more than what it is on 5 point scale for my 5yrs engineering program?

Please reply
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 13 by kekenation(m): 8:21pm On May 04, 2018
Your WES GPA would definitely be in that region. 3.0/5 GPA (Nigeria scale) is equivalent to 3.0/4 GPA (USA scale).

I've not heard of a case like this before. Maybe gurus here with previous similar experiences can throw more light on this

But I think the 2.822/4 is not the accurate representation of your GPA. I think it is close to, or equal to 3/4 because I've seen 2 or 3 people with lower grades getting 3+/4 after WES conversion

Once you log in to your visa application page, click on "update profile" you'll see a part where you can edit your ds-160 confirmation number. You should delete the old one and put the new code you generated and you save it. It takes at least 72hours for it to update tho

Why do you want to disvirgin your passport? Whatever any agent or person might have told you is misleading. Many people on this thread got their visas on virgin passports so you are good to go so far you apply to a proper decent school and No your sister's SOA is not a red flag. Be prepared to answer why your sister is sponsoring you. Good answer could be that she is your guardian now since you lost your Dad.

I beg to disagree with some of your points. First at bolded, it is not illegal to know that there is a loophole in the law that you can utilize to your advantage. It is not even illegal to use a loophole in the law to your advantage. Lawyers do this everytime. The US law created the loophole by allowing Visa holders to change from F1B to H1B so people utilizing it or knowing they can utilize it during visa interview cannot be illegal

Nobody is saying people outside Engineering, sciences or IT won't succeed in the states but they are saying it MIGHT be harder because of the lack of OPT/H1B for those paths

I don't think they are discouraging anybody from choosing his/her path. All they are doing is advising people to try to follow a path where they can utilize the aforementioned loophole. We all know that there are other ways to achieve the American dream beside H1B but this is a US (STUDENT) visa enquiry thread, you don't want them mentioning the outside the box options you have in mind here.

Nigeria already have a black international reputation, you don't want someone in trump government to have a copy of such posts and use it to blacklist us further.

Again, some outside the box options of achieving the American dream are not illegal, they are among the many loopholes in the system, but they MIGHT be harder than H1B

What do i even know. I never comot naija before grin

Are you applying to a business school?

If yes, then read on
If no, you may want to verify more before taking the advice

For business school admissions, anybody you've worked with in any capacity can give you a letter of recommendation. So that makes your boss qualified to give you recommendation.

Make sure the person knows you well and can speak extensively about you. That's what matters. The rank (CEO, Professor, PhD, HOD, Vice Chancellor) doesn't matter. What matters is the content.
