Ebuehi was not on the bench again... He should have pulled out of the March friendly instead of playing with the groin injury.
And that cost us the first goal against Serbia.

From hours ago... in line with Sir Tbaba1234's comments from Ibitoye

Premier League season over for Ndidi but he will be ready for World Cup – Eagles official

Injured Wilfred Ndidi will be ready for the World Cup even though his Premier League season with Leicester City is over, Super Eagles spokesman Toyin Ibitoye has disclosed.

Ndidi is nursing a hamstring injury and he is expected to be out for several weeks.

However, Ibitoye has assured the highly-rated defensive midfielder will be fit and ready for Russia 2018 in June.

“He’s making good progress, I have been in contact with the medical team (of the Super Eagles) and he is recovering faster than they had even anticipated,” Ibitoye said on a radio programme monitored by SCORENigeria

“He may not play again for Leicester City this season, but he is likely to at least play our final friendly against Czech Republic (June 6).”

He is therefore ruled out for the World Cup warm-up games against DR Congo in Port Harcourt (May 28) and against England at Wembley (June 2).

You place too much emphasis on defense forgetting that the best form of defence is Attack. Every time we had Iwobi roaming around the final third 18 yard box, he had scored.

This too much emphasis you place on defense was what Rohr thought when he played 3 original DMs in Onazi, Ndidi, and Joel Obi against Serbia , yet we got a whooping.

Remember this:
If you need too many men behind the ball ⚽ inorder to defend, then you truly don't know how to defend
So the midfield is not important? Remember this is Croatia

Firstly, You set up your team both based on the strength and nature of your opposition and also your strength.

Believe it or not Croatia vs Nigeria, we are the under dogs in that fixture. When you play a team that is better than you are you don't go all out and all attack else you will expose your weaknesses.

Secondly at the bolded, Joel Obi did not play as a DM in the game. What we had was more like 2 blocking 4 (ie Ndidi and Onazi). And that is a set up we here have already proposed against Croatia. Remember we played Serbia bc of Croatia. There is nothing wrong with that set up.

You need to match a team like Croatia first in the midfield before you can hope to get a result from that fixture.

Good insight. You wan go all out attack and neglect your MF against Croatia.. We go chop am be dat

Is Mikel included?

Rohr predictabily will go for a 4-2-3-1 formation in that game . For the lone striker Ighalo is likely to start. And Mikel will play behind him. and of course Moses and Iwobi will play from the wings. Iheanacho not likely to start.
Nice but Iwobi tends to struggle when playing on the wings

Yes Onazi and Ndidi make up the 2 midfield players in the 4-2-3-1 set up.

Iheanacho may start if Rohr goes for a 4-4-2. It simply means one of Onazi and Ndidi will not start:

...............Ighalo
...........................Iheanacho

Iwobi....... Mikel........ Moses

.................Ndidi

Nice but don't you think just one DM us insufficient against Croatia.

wingers, traditionally speaking are wide midfielders.. wing forwards are also wingers as the name implies, but more specifically, they are attacking wingers.

cool down, na discussion.. no one is ignorant.. trust me these terms can be confusing especially considering how football has evolved.

MetalJigsaw ironically this explains it all.. from Wiki:

Winger

In modern football, the terms winger or wide player refer to a non-defender who plays on the left or right sides of the pitch. These terms can apply to left or right midfielders, left or right attacking midfielders, or left or right forwards. Left or right-sided defenders such as wing-backs or full-backs are generally not called wingers.

Cristiano Ronaldo less important to Real Madrid than Lionel Messi to Barcelona - Garcia
REAL MADRID do not need Cristiano Ronaldo as much as Barcelona need Lionel Messi.
That’s the verdict of former Liverpool star Luis Garcia, who believes Messi is the more difficult opponent to stop.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi have battled it out in La Liga for the past nine years following the Portuguese’s move to the Bernabeu.

And they went head-to-head once again on Sunday night as El Clasico rivals Real and Barcelona met at the Nou Camp.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Garcia suggested Ronaldo is less important to Real than Messi is to Barcelona.

"I think not long ago Real Madrid were more reliant on Cristiano Ronaldo, but lately with the way Barcelona are playing and with all the injuries on the team that they are more reliant on Lionel Messi than Real are on Ronaldo," he told BetStars.

Garcia also offered his take on why Messi is a tougher opponent to come up against than Ronaldo.

"To play against Messi is always very difficult, you never know what to do against him," he added.
"Ronaldo is of course one of the best strikers in the history of football, but Messi always gives you something different.

"It doesn’t matter if you try to mark him man-to-man, or you try to give him freedom, or you try to play him in defence, you know he’s always going to be a key man – Lionel Messi is always very difficult to play against."

Ronaldo and Messi’s goals on Sunday meant they have now scored 1000 between them in the past 10 years.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winners will both be vying for the prestigious award once again come winter.

Wrong strategy, you can't "match" a team in the midfield who is presently obviously stronger than you in that regard, that will be tantamount to suicide because they will definitely take the midfield away from you and punish you. Remember they are better than you as you said.

What you should do as a weaker opponent in the midfield is to gift them the midfield but limit their time ⌚ on the ball. How do you do that, its simple, spread or stretch them in the middle and at their defense line. If you can successfully do that, you make their midfield control useless.

How do you spread or stretch a team who plays possessive football in the middle?

- Best formation against such is 4-3-3 or 3-5-2

- Best strategy is mass attack - mass defense

Now with either of those formations with the strategy i spoke of, your players will have to gift the middle to their opponents, its not a contest, whether you gift it willingly or not, they will still take it by force, so it is better you gift it by choice and concentrate your energy where it matters most.

When the middle is gifted, your midfielders will spread out to the touch lines when in possession and keep the ball there, they will extend it forward to the opponents final third, to the wings, from the wings, your forwarders can easily cut-in, or pull out, or do whatever.

When out of possession, your midfielders will just form a wall around your 18 yard, such a wall would be very difficult to break, and when your opponent loses possession to you in such location, Bros trust me, your counterattack will be deadly.

Real live Simulation:

I have watched European matches alot to know what i am saying. Lets look at Real Madrid.

Their most used formation 4-3-3.

Real Madrid rarely play possession football. I mean, they are good in the midfield, very good, no doubt about that. But many times in the UCL, they have come against teams who are better compared to them yet they keep winning. If you compare player to player, most times, they fall short in ability compared to their opponents, but guess what,? They keep winning... For two years now!

Their secrets is simple, they gift their opponents the middle.!! Full stop!!.. They mostly outplay their opponents from the sidelines in the midfield, and wings from the attack. They spread you out in the middle, and wear you out. Make no mistake, if you dare to match them on the sidelines, they quickly switch to the middle because they can as well play from the middle too.

But many times you prove stubborn from the middle, they leave you to it and focus on the sidelines and wings. They combine this with a deadly counter attack too with C. Ronaldo leading the strike force. They use cutbacks alot alongside with pin point crossing. By the time you settle down, you are already a goal or two down. Such a demoralizing predicament.

From there on, your insistence on equalizing, the pressure, etc will make you increase your possessive play and also your frustration... Before you know it, you are exposed to deadly counterattacks at will for the rest of the match.

Against Croatia

Our Formation 3-5-2
Our strategy: Mass attack - Mass defense

We must resist the temptation to choke the middle with too much original DMs, Ndidi or Onazi alone will be okay. A double pivot AM of Iwobi and Mikel should be encouraged or A CM in Ogu and AM in Mikel should suffice. We must gift them that midfield and play from the sidelines inorder to catch them on the break(counterattack) !!

But if we decide to match them kick for kick, man for man in the middle then i am sorry, we will be whooped! No two ways about it.

When you gift your midfield away you will lose control of the game, starve your forwards of balls, plus your defense will come under serious threat and will capitulate. Na white washing be that.

The best approach is still to choke up the midfield, and try to shield your defense while also capitalizing on breaks to hit them on the counter.
