if it is to take Nigeria and Nigerians to the next level in terms of automobiles (repairs and parts) then u are highly welcome but if profit is the initial and Main aim, then u might be looking at a very looooong thing; probably the tower of Babel.

I love the initiative, it's a nice and welcome one and I will probably become ur grand patron.... but problem is, the average Nigerian is ever poor and discontent in "his" own eyes. u might need to compensate for the lack of traffic/ volume of transactions by focusing on customer profiling and merchandise tailoring. To suit the average Nigerian car owner won't be easy, else u might never break even. I'm sure this service will not be cheap and easily affordable in the minds of the many potential customers that will be attracted...

Thanks. I like the straightforward approach too.The reason we did this is because Nigeria is where the US was in the 1970s-1990s as far as auto repair. Fragmented specialist shops and dealers. Same exact conditions. This is the perfect time to revolutionise the industry. If we do this correctly, profit will be the pleasant end product. I can promise you our pricing will be fair and should be a mid-point between the independent shops and the dealers. Our labor rate will depend on the type of account and service and will range from N3,750-5,000 per hour with most typical services being at N4,125/hr. Did I mention we will be doing oil changes in 30 minutes or they are free?

Someone was complaining that he charged N10K to go offsite to do a vehicle inspection. I will charge that for a limited onsite vehicle inspection. Offsite is at minimum N25K.

It's all about the demographics being marketed to. If you can afford a N5M Range Rover then you can afford a N25K inspection, as an example.

Definitely something to consider. We are NOWHERE near that expensive. Actually, we offer performance checks for free with repair. If you want us simply to do diagnoses to be taken elsewhere for repair, we charge in half hour increments to a maximum of 4 hours.

Thank you for the optimism. We have brought in two options for parts each time. The budget brand that still has a warranty though it may be shorter, and the premium brand and will offer both choices for the customer to decide. Also, the N2m camry owner is definitely able to afford our shop if they keep up preventive maintenance and thus avoid huge repairs. Pricing will not be based on the worth of car. Simply on the cost of parts for the car and the labor the book says it should take, not emotion or the perceived depth of the customer's pocket.

In rare cases, if a customer truely cannot affor a repair, we may use the customer's part but will not be able to offer a warranty. At least we will be able to get them back on the road. This is because of contractual agreements with our parent company in the USA.

Squeaks are actually caused by the materials the brakes are made of especially when they are metallic brakes. They don't necessarily mean wear if the brakes are metallic. Some also are designed to squeak to let you know wear level. It's usually ceramics that have this property though (warning squeak that is).

Overseas, the brakes we use carry lifetime part warranties but here we will start with one or two years and see how it goes.

If you've never heard of Carquest, google them. They have expanded to Nigeria. They sell original parts that all come with warranties of anywhere from 3 months to 1 year. They also sell all the CORRECT oils for each vehicle. They are located in Lekki right after the second toll gate. There is also a repair shop for an American franchise called Milex and Mr. Transmission. Again, google if you don't know who they are. If you lived in the colder states in the US, you've probably heard of them. They warranty their work with the same warranties Carquest offers. If you are tired of street mechanics F'ing up your car or dealers charging exhorbitant prices for work they didn't do, you should probably check them out.

They will be opening a total of 10 stores across Nigeria and warranties will be good at any of the stores. They will provide for ALL car brands not just american cars. Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, BMW, etc.

DISCLAIMER: I am on the board of directors for these stores and this is a passion project for me because the state of auto repair in this country is ridiculous. Having returned home, we are merely trying to bring the minimum level of service we are used to from the USA to Nigeria. I hope this post doesn't violate Nairaland rules.
