In Africa, names are given base on several factors that gives it meaning, some of which are prophecies, proverbs and to describe events, or attribute symbolism or blessing to give the intended beneficiary a sense of who he/she is or meant to be. All these gives credence to our authentic African identity. Though some names can be strange and even outrageous like "Ayruemukohwokarien" - "God does something for someone and they know (it's visible to all).

Well, I think the appropriate title for this OP should be: What's the Meaning of your name ?

My mother had a dream where she saw a man (angel) who told her that the foetus in her womb is a special child, through which justice shall be served to her mockers. So I was given a corresponding name to serve as notice, though my dad wanted something entirely different for a name.

My mom told me that two days after I was born, thieves came to rob our house. One of the thieves went to my crib and touched me and immediately I gave him a blow which made him paralysed. The news spread and people came around to see the wonder baby, most people kept saying that power must have come from God, so my family name me IKECHUKWU - meaning God's Power.

Pop wasn't around as at that time, so mum baby sis named me after one of her favourite American martial artist and actress who featured alongside with Jackie Chan in medallion.

My mum went to the labour room from one room apartment and before she came back from the hospital my dad got a new job and rented a flat and even bought a Volkswagen which was used to carry her and myself from the hospital to the new apartment...
