A simple look at a map of West Africa will show that increasing desertification of the northern Sahel affects ALL of West Africa, as cattle herders are forced to head further southwards to feed and water their cattle. A situation that will obviously lead to clashes with southern farming communities. So how can it be unique to Nigeria? There is no country in West Africa that uses ranches in any sort of scale, so they are bound to have the same problems as Nigeria., with ours only exacerbated by the higher population of humans and cattle involved.

Op are you saying that the f00laninis are traditionally know for killing people every where they are found even in other countries just because of their cattle? Are you trying to let us understand that the killing by f00laninis in benue and other states is their culture? Are reminding us that it's no only in Nigeria the f00laninis enjoy killing, maim, rape and burn properties of their host and take over their land? Op you are really a good researcher. Fulanis in Ghana run to UN Secretary Gen


The Fulani Association of Ghana has called on the United Nations to come to their aid and stop the Ghanaian government from using brute force in reigning in their cattle-herding activities.

Additionally, the Association has condemned the shoot-to-kill strategy adopted by a joint military and police task force – Operation Cow Leg – in dealing with their cattle, a situation the Fulani say is robbing them of their livelihood.

The Fulani also want a halt to what in their view are unwarranted atrocities meted to the Fulani in the country.

“We wish to seize this opportunity to appeal to His Excellency the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr António Guterres to see to the protection of Fulanis in Ghana as provided by the Charter of the United Nations,” Chairman of the Association, Professor Sheikh Osman Baro said at a press conference in Accra on Friday, 19 January.

His call follows recent unrest in Agogo which led to the shooting of three soldiers and a police officer by some Fulani herdsmen.

A retaliatory response by the Operation Cow Leg task force has led to the killing of several cattle in the Agogo area.

But the Fulani Association, while condemning the unrest, insists that the shoot-to-kill strategy should be stopped and the affected families compensated.

The Fulani community has, therefore, appealed to President Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure that individuals whose cattle have been shot and killed are adequately compensated.

“We equally wish to appeal to His Excellency to ensure that adequate compensations are paid to the innocent victimised Fulani families who have lost their cattle during the said joint operation and other atrocities,” Prof Baro said.

Prof Baro called for collaboration in decision-making on issues that concern the Fulani in the country and suggested dialogue towards resolving the issues of nomadic herdsmen in Agogo

It's clear hypocrisy. It's like the mayor of London talking about a knife crime problem in another city or country. Op you're right Nigerians don't research and just love the feeling of being criticized by outsiders a little too much. It will be on a smaller scale in Ghana because there are less Fulani herds men. Nigeria has the largest concentration of Fulani people in Africa whose lively hoods are cattle related. If the GH president is talking about Abuja, it's very close to the North so you would see herding. There does need to get strict grazing laws, paths and areas and maybe mandatory movement of animals by cattle trucks for parts of the trail. Clearly, there should not be cattle trailed in the middle of Abuja for example.

The lack of concrete reaction from Buhari is because it's his people doing it and he keeps cattle himself. He has a clear bias and does not want to go against his tribesmen.

You are hopeless liar!!! What useless desertification? Why have you and your killer Fulanis not accepted Governors Gandujes offer to inhabit the expansive Falgore forest which has great vegetation and water to take care of all Fulani cattles for 100 years ..... is it also desertification that has stopped the Buhari govt from addressing the issue but instead opting to provide executive protection for the killer Herdmens...keep defending evil ok
