Good morning all.

I sent my degree to Iqas for evaluation; however, I am yet to send that of my wife because her passport is not yet ready.

My question is can I evaluate hers using her National ID Card as stated in Iqas website. I also called and I was informed that any form of National ID card will be accepted.

Is it ideal I go via this route?

I like seeing new and interesting questions like this, not everytime WES grin

Since its stated on IQAS website that they accept it, what other assurance do you need from us? you even called them and got a positive confirmation.

Well, I have never evaluated any degree before nor applied for EE.
I asked just to be certain if the Passport number is written on the evaluation result or not.

Make I first appreciate the guys for this thread. Una too much sha. Me na silent reader ooo. But I just say make I comot from ghostmode to yarn small about this our IELTS writing. Wahala dey for this our writing ooo.I believe that writing is the most tasking part of the IELTS exam. In my opinion sha there are some issues with our writing.

1.Spelling- this one no need further explanation. Since we start to use messenger the thing don reach alarming level. Me sef wey dey yarn this yarn I sure say my spelling na F9.

2.Over writing- abeg if them say 250 words try limit am to max 260. Over writing shows the limits of the candidates vocabulary. There is a reason why word count limits are imposed. E no be because BC no get paper to give us or say them no get capacity to mark am ooo lol.

3. Limited vocabulary - leads to repeating the same words and hence over writing. Person wey get beta vocabs fit use one word explain something wey another person go use 10 words explain remain. Appropriate use of vocabs is the difference between band 7.5 and band 8 in IELTS writing oo

4. Under writing - similar to point 2. if them say 250 words abeg no write 200 and say e don do oo. Try make sure say you reach 255. And no go fill the paper with the same words just to meet the word count ooo.

5. Poor paragraphing- o girl the rules to paragraphing plenty oo. To illustrate this make we just go any of our popular blogs and see the thrash wey them dey write as stories ( bloggers no come kpai me oo na joke I dey oo)

6.Poor essay structure - This one mean say the essay no get structure ie person no dey know where the essay start or where the middle of the essay be. Most time na just collection of words wey we dey present as essay. This is related to item 5

7. Off point - No need to explain this. We as a nation too like to yarn opata

8. No topic sentences - Goes back to item 5. Every paragraph must have a properly located topic sentence.

9. Punctuation - Person no fit talk too much about this. A rogue comma can change the meaning of a sentence completely. For this our Nairaland sef e be like say punctuation marks dey on holiday lol. Me sef dey guilty oo so make una no shoot me abeg.

10. Capitalization - person need to know the rules to follow.

Make I stop to yarn now before I go fall my hand with over writing lol. Just my 2 cents sha

Dear Canadian family,
Please what are the criteria for Ontario's nomination? Have they been nominating lately? I'm at 431 and I think Ontario nomination is my hope of achieving this dream. I have recreated my profile so they can see me easily but yet to hear anything from them. There's little I can do to increase my crs score due to age.

Please house what can I do to increase the chances of being nominated?

In filling the form, did you select Ontario as the province you'd like to live in? That would increase your chances of getting an invite to apply for nomination. Though the cutoff points seem to be going downwards from a high of 456 in March and now it's 441, so it may get below your score soon.

I don't know about the Indians, but we're having a serious grammar challenge in Nigeria. It's now proving difficult to find articulate newspaper articles. Everybody now knows how to phoonè but basic rules of grammar have been lost.

I totally agree with you there.

Poor writing is now mainstream!

I find it very disturbing that our newspapers are riddled with grammatical errors. It used to be that if you wanted to improve your grammar and expand your vocabulary, you were told to read newspapers voraciously. Today, I really would not advise anyone to do that... The blogs are another matter entirely.

It's not only in Nigeria....poor writing is almost a global problem. I have seen a lot of errors on UK's dailymail (online) news and it makes me wonder where all the editors are.

For IELTS, I think the writing part is quite subjective and those who score 6.5 could very well have scored 7 (and vice versa smiley )... hence it is very important to read, digest and understand the marking scheme so that you can know what is required and ace the test.

Generally, I think it is important to make a conscious effort to write things in full. Instant messaging has encouraged us to write in "shorthand" and this has contributed immensely to our poor writing (and spelling)skills today. I hardly ever write in short hand even when chatting with friends and family...it does take some getting used to!

I wish everyone struggling with IELTS the very best!

I am glad that I have passed the IELTS exam and I was wondering how I could give back (Though I never get PR) grin

Anyone interested in improving his/her writing or would need help with writing should holla.

Due to distance and all, I might not be able to help everyone. I am based in Lagos. Isolo to be precise. Anyone who can help with a venue, time and suitable date so that we can meetup for a session or two.

I will be grateful to help. No pride. Just wanna help based on a couple I learnt when writing the exam. I am not promising a 9 o. But i am sure u wont get 6.5.

All da best

Lol, reading your post made my head ache, walahi! grin I agree with you 100% though.

You see those Indians that we are looking at with side eyes, they don't joke with their IELTS preparations. They register for classes and take intense studies because they know they are not very good. But the average Nigerian has the attitude of 'no be the English wey we day speak every day?" I know because I was almost a victim.

I've never shared my Ielts story or result here because I am saving it for PPR announcement grin but lemme share small grin I never practiced my writing, not even once. I read up on the test format and answer structures twice ad boldly went to take the exam with my full chest grin.

In the exam hall my hand started freezing!! I've gotten used to typing on a keyboard and phone that having to actually write with a pencil and paper became a challenge. Now imagine knowing what you want to write but your hand is cramping up and hurting cry cry cry I barely made it to the conclusion as I was writing one word at a time. Who even dash me extra sheet?

I was expecting 6.5 / 7 at the very most but alas result came out and I had a 7.5 (my lowest score wink). So the lesson in all this is never be too confident that you don't practice.

And with these points of mine, I hope I have been able to convince and not confuse you that practice leads to perfection, thank you.

Na 9 you want score?

I was expecting your story to go

"I was over confident, failed to practice and scored 6 in writing"

For EE, perfection in writing is 7.5 o... you didn't practice and you attained perfection in one sitting... kudos! smiley

On a serious note,
you brought up another very valid point here. Many of us are so used to typing that we may have forgotten how to hold a pen and write on paper. If you belong to that category, please practice writing on paper before the exam.

The bolded is not entirely true sha. I always used the sample answer sheet during practice. I and hubby, and we never used extra sheets. We both got a 7.5 in writing. That some people used extra sheets does not mean they are always writing what makes sense. I knew from constant practice that I always wrote between 270 to 290 words. I never used extra sheet. It's not a deciding factor. I had time to count my words during the test and it was 286. No extra sheet.
@LeakPlug, try and give yourself extra time during practice to count your words. If you do that constantly, you'd soon know when you have gotten to at least a 250. Your handwriting cannot change in size overnight naa. At least, it worked for me. If you are sure you got to 250, ask for a remark.

Now that we all are dropping valuable tips on this writing problem, I hope we all know how to do word count in IELTS essay? I counted both part one and two to be sure I made the word count without using an extra sheet. I hope say nobody de count the words one after the other o? grin grin grin grin

please ooo !!! HELP!!

My IELTS carried only my first name and surname and they did not include my middle name! does this affect anything?

It won't affect anything. If they have to confirm with your applicant ID, your full names would be on the IELTS database. You can include a letter of explanation to explain the omission.

Really don't know what to do now, I am at 410 was hoping on using this ACCA F1-F3 to get more points I have even registered for the exams. After seeing that it is evaluated as one semester, the zeal of preparing for the exams has left me sad

Hey, as you already have registered and already preparing for the exam, pls pass the exam and get your evaluation from WES. Can you tell us when is your exam? Also, is it possible for you to give F4 too? I mean if F1-F9 is fetching 3-4 years Bachelors equivalence then for 1 year even if 3 papers is not enough to get one year then adding another paper might be. you can research the idea too and as you are already taking 3 you can add another one and see whether evaluating F1-F4 gives you the one year equivalence or not. I guess there is nothing to lose any more.

I wish you the best of luck and pls do keep posting about the progress. thanks

Lol. I got a 7.5 too and I remember how my husband and I kept putting off writing practice till a week to the test. We focused on the listening and reading components all through our practice. We didn't even do any speaking practice till a day or two before the speaking test. I have a blog where I write stories, so I just dey form 'ehen, is it not this writing I do every time?" For writing, it is practice, practice, practice. It's very easy to write without adhering to the IETLS format and structure and be deluded that you are actually making sense. Even good writers make mistakes too.

He/She has to start from somewhere naa. Even counting the number of words in a row and multiplying by the number of lines is another way. It depends on what works for one. With time, you only have to glance through to know if you have met the minimum number.

Hello House,

I am a silent reader.

I have been on IP2 since 2nd of March.

I raised a CSE and realised that my VO is London.

I requested for GCMS notes on the 1st of May and on the 25th of May, I got a ghost update on my account. After some hours it changed back to submitted and my "Review of Additional documents" changed from "Not Applicable" to "We are reviewing the additional documents you provided".

Up till now, I have not received any request for additional document and I didn't submit any additional document either. I have checked my spam box several times just in case it went into my spam box.

Elders in the house, please has anyone experienced this before? Could it be as a result of the GCMS note I requested for?

Your kind response would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Everyone. Congratulations to those that crossed IELTS hurdle with BC.
I need some clarifications on the issue of STATUS.
I and my fiancé are getting married this weekend. We intend creating the EXPRESS ENTRY PROFILE before Monday. With our CRS standing at 450 and the current trend from the draws, hopefully we should get an ITA by next week.
But a close friend said the application process will be too sudden ( Wedding is just 5 days before the draws) and cause some suspicion for IRCC.
Elders in the house and everyone in here is invited to advice us.

URGENT.
