Gurus should help vet this proposed transcript ;

Note: no travel history, graduated 2009, not married, no kids, have 6 years work experience....5 of those as a business data analyst in a microfinance bank

Where r u going? I am going to prairie view a&m university in Texas for my masters program in computer science and my concentration is computer information systems

Tell me about ur study plan? My concentration is comp info systems which focuses on the use data analysis and information systems tools to improve efficiency. Ill be taking a total of 36 credit hours. Some of d core courses include; blablablabalabla just to mention a few. My elective course plan will be tailored to give me a deep insight into machine learning, artificial intelligence and improve my knowledge of electronic commerce. Ill also be exposed to software engineering and development which is a skill I need to develop.

Why Comp info systems? Or what will dis program do for u? Having trained and worked in the Nigerian banking industry as a business data analyst, a masters degree in cis at this point of my career would equip me with d technical skills needed to plan and design a data analysis algorithm that will determine the eligibility of clients to access credit facilities. I will have d capacity to develop an automated system using machine learning algorithms to examine n analyse pre existing data of clients in order to generate new useful information. I will also have d required skill to design software that can determine customers preference and purchase behaviour in order to improve service delivery to clients. When I return to Nigeria after my program I will have d requisite skills n exposure to advance my career as a biznes data analyst as I'll be qualified to take up a senior data analyst role in any Nigerian organization.

How many schools did u apply to? 3.

Name dem? Bowie state uni, univ of Texas at dallas and prairie view a&m uni.

So why prairie view? I chose prairie view because the computer information system curriculum at the department integrates data science and electronic commerce into the study plan. This will give me a well rounded experience to take up a senior data analyst role in any organization when I return to Nigeria after my program. Pvamu also has a data mining research lab and d faculty is actively conducting research activities in Big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence. These facilities will be invaluable for my study. And m in contact with Dr xxxx of d cis department about my research interests and he is willing to work with me on my proposed research topic

Why r u switching fields physics to CIS? I switched fields immediately after my undergraduate study solely becos I discovered my interest n motivation lies in the field of computing and data analysis and I have made conscious effort in this regard by taking database administration courses at an IT training institute. (At dis point I intend to hand out my sql test score result) now I believe the time is right to follow up with a higher study in order to advance my career in this field.

Any standardized test? Yes I wrote GRE with a score of 308

Who's sponsoring u? My sister
What does ur sister do? She's into Event management and catering services for corporate organizations and individuals.

Hello All.
I'd like to thank everyone especially those who shared their transcripts . I learnt a lot from it. One of my main worries going thru the pages was that there were very few pple who have applied with child dependant. After going thru pages endlessly I saw malory84's post over 2 years ago. I learnt so much from this and it gave me a lot of confidence. Being a mother of 3 young children I was advised to get my F1 first then later apply for their F2. But I was afraid of stories that touch the heart where I would have been granted visa and the children won't be able to join me later. My hubby has a visiting visa and he will still be working here to ensure the family still has an income. So I decided to apply with the kids as I would prefer we were all given or all denied visa.
In the spirit of given back and to help keep families together especially mommies and children I will be sharing my transcript. I have been a silent reader
Visa was approved today along with 2 dependant children

In my opinion, your interview was really going well and you almost nailed it. I'd definitely reapply if I were in your shoes but with better preparation. Nothing wrong with your answers except for the two questions in bold.

First one. Did you take any tests? I think "No" or "No, I didn't" would have been better. Not taking a test is not a crime. If they need anything else, they'd ask why.

The second question in bold was your chance to nail the visa. Your answer was general, vague and most importantly, it didn't really answer the question: "Why are you leaving your good job?". Read your answer again, and you'd see that you could have done a better job. Another VO could have been impressed so maybe you just got unlucky.

I believe reapplying is a good idea with better preparation. Give specifics. Talk about the particular technical and business skills you'd be getting and the particular examples of "senior roles" you wanna go back to. Better preparation. Don't give up on a dream after one failure. wink

This is an opinion, please don't mistake for legal advice

Yes it is!!! Only thing is... you'd have to strengthen your application and apply to programs/schools you have a chance of getting into.

What do I mean by strengthening your application? Try to prepare and do well on standardized tests like TOEFL or GRE (preferably both), read on how to write a really good statement of purpose for your admission, etc. If you succeed in doing this, you'd see that your profile could be better than that of someone with a 3.0+ cgpa and has nothing else.

Don't rush into anything, target fall 2019 semester and start your preparation now. It's doable!

Hello everyone.

I want to know, how adviseable is it to be denied visa with an unranked school's I20 and refiring almost immediately with a ranked school? Should I just reapply or wait till the next session? How affordable is living at Oregon for an average student because the school am looking at now is located there?. I need opinions and practical experience if possible. Thanks all

I remember your username. I just want to point something out to you. If you think repplying for a visa with a "ranked" school will guarantee your visa, I'm afraid you need a really good reality check. You will still have to work for your visa.

If you're asked why you changed to XYZ university in Oregon and all you can say is "it is a ranked school", it's just another futile effort. What's my point? If you're trying to get into other schools, this is the time to start asking yourself what you want, why you really want them and do your research and continue learning how to prepare for interviews.

Moving on, cost of living depends on so many factors. Like in any state, not all cities are the same so, where your school is/you'd live could be factors too. Oregon is a relatively expensive state to live in but remember: sometimes, the cheapest things in life aren't the cheapest. Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma are cheap states but there are so many places in these states you wouldn't wanna live in as a foreigner.

Don't rush any decision, wait for the next session and spend time preparing. Make better decisions and be self critical. Don't let your future be decided by a random, faceless person in another place like me and others here lol because in the end, you'll be the one to live with your decisions.

Always go for what's best for YOU, not what someone thinks would be best for them. I wish you the best.
