Most Nigerians think their rich relatives owe them something. The mistake you made was to hand those documents to her, and you probably had a big party before you left so she thought you have moved to higher grounds.

A Nigerian man has cried out in horror after coming back from abroad only to find out that his land has been sold off by his sister.
Okechukwu Agheze

Okechukwu Agheze, a young Nigerian man has cried out after his elder sister sold his land while he was out of Nigeria.

The man, from Anambra state, said he bought a plot of land at Ifo, Ogun state, and developed it to a certain level. Before traveling abroad, he gave his sister the document to the land for safe keeping.

He returned to Nigerian after being deported with nothing and his only hope at starting over was that land. But, to his horror, he found out that his elder sister had sold the land and she was even unapologetic about it.

My own brother told me 6 months ago that a bag of cement in Nigeria was 5,700 naira.

He actually produced an invoice to back it up.

Thank God for my cousin who saved me. May God bless you Ogonna!

People in nigeria wey never live overseas always think that life is very easy overseas. My man pls don't let anger rule ur action. Just use caution and just sue her to court and learn ur lesson about human beings. It's hard to find someone to trust these days

Anyone that understood the basic concept of compound wealth, cash flow, value, and assets will not attempt to sell a commodity that by its very nature, infinitely appreciate. The money realized from the sell-off will be spent, while the smart person that bought the land may rent it out, build something on it or somehow leverage it and turn it into a cash cow via passive income. The mind is our greatest asset and also, can be our greatest liability. What a sister.
The flaw in your analysis is this....in the long run you are dead........ask the economist Maynard Keynes.
If you don't sell it somebody else will (your wife, your children. .somebody) sell it without batting an eyelid.

What is the point of a land title to the owner, old on a sick bed......enjoy it for a long while and let it go! Thats the idea, your time on earth is finite.

as her brother, you were supposed to know she was capable of that. personally I know what each of my siblings is capable of. I know who to trust with valuable/sensitive things like that and I know who not to trust.

The fault in your analysis is that it is selfish and shortsighted. It’s only about you and the momentary gain. Personally, I’ll rather pass down wealth and assets to my offspring, it’s not my fault if they do anything stupid with it.

O pari
I have this big daddy who told me about his younger brother who travelled out. He had forced him to buy that land and develop it cos according to him, things can change. Fast forward to 15 years, the man had retired and traveled back to Nigeria. He stayed back in Lagos doing nothing. But dad had to force him back to his home state to finish building that house and live in it.

Dad had the papers for 15 years, and kept it till he came back, handed everything to uncle and made sure he did not live a wasted life. If he had not listened to the advice to buy the land and develop the property, well he'll have nothing by now. Now that's a good family.

The youths of today in contrast live selfish lives and prefer to be successful at the expense of kith and kin instead of working towards the good of the family in general. I guess they enjoy having some embers of the family come to beg them cap in hand for pittance.

Two sides to every story. This might be a case of Sister lend me some money for ticket and BTA, I will give you when I make it abroad. In case you don't believe it, hold the document of my land.
Or
The sister. Why sell the land to raise money for traveling when I can lend you some money? But you must give me the document just in case
She still doesn't have to sell the land. For one, it belongs to her brother and she should be happy that he owns something that precious.

Secondly, it appreciates and even if she still feels she should get back the money, she should have communicated with the brother or wait till he comes back. The proceeds from selling the appreciated property will pay off her brother's debt and possibly leave more change for him to fall back on and use to start a new and productive life in Nigeria. If the sister had done this, the brother will worship her, àjobí (kinship) will have blessed them both amd heavens too will have looked down om her with favour. Alas she was myopic.

So now you see that not everyone is bad. Identify the good ones that will add value to your life and associate with them while you keep some distance from the not-too good ones.
