A Nigerian caterer identified as Omolade Adebisi Abiara took to her Instagram page to recount a sad experience she had at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH. According to her, the hospital, irrespective of the severity of a patient's case, usually schedules months before the patient could book an appointment with a doctor. She also gave the illustration of a woman who needed emergency attention as she suffers from a serious ailment she has been battling with for years. But it was quite appalling as the medical personnel over there asked her to come back in November to see a doctor. Read her narration: So I was at Lagos University teaching hospital Ikeja #lasuth yesterday after being referred from Isolo general hospital for medical attention on my daughter's ear, I got to the hsp few minutes past 6am and I was called exactly 11.30am,only for the admin to write on my referral letter that my appointment to see the doctors is November!!!! 6months from now https://lailasnews.com/lady-recounts-her-sad-and-graphic-experience-at-lasuth/ 2 Likes

That LASUTH is becoming a nuisance. A friend experienced same thing recently. He was told to come back after 3 months to see a Doctor. The ailment wasn't life threatening so he waited, but guess what LASUTH did after 3 months of waiting? My friend was referred to a private clinic without any consultation. The level of corruption and the nonchalant I-don't-care-whether-you-die attitude in government owned hospitals is just too much. Never willing to do their job and always eager to threaten everyone with strike. Issues like this are reasons I won't stop anyone from seeking miracles from credible faith-based institutions or agbo-jedi sellers. Although some of these men have ruined lives, it still can't be compared to the number of lives the government has ruined through the destructive healthcare delivery systems. 21 Likes 1 Share |

LASUTH is overstetched. Everybody wants to go to General hospital, sometimes I pity the doctors working there. NB: If you can't afford private ENT clinics, get hmo and register to be seen in a private facility.Other government facilities include Military hospital yaba, Navy hospital Ojo, general hospital Lagos, General hospital Orile agege. 14 Likes |

Blame NOT LASUTH...blame the system please. Most Nigerians do not care about decayed structure even when they read about it or when few others involved are protesting... However, by the time they are now the victim, they will be shouting injustice. We that are concerned are already aware of these collapsed structures in Naija. But if we call for protest, people like you will not come out because your prophet or alfa had told you that God is about to give you billions soon. 9 Likes |

Get HMO that covers private hospitals. Most if not all of those doctors, especially consultants have and run their private clinics. This is the sad situation. Your president goes to London for ear infection,so go figure. 3 Likes |

sartorius: Lolz. Sartorius? Why did you decide to go by this name? @Topic, the doctor-patient ratio in our nation is terribly poor. This is no excuse, though. Please if you can afford it (I pray you can), go get a good consult in a private ENT clinic. Wish your daughter - and others - quick recovery. |

Half of Nigerian Doctors are now in Canada, Austrialia and Europe working for the govt that knows their worth. The ones left behind in Nigeria are fighting with JOESHU. There are not enough doctors to take care of all of us. Sorry madam, we are all in it together 7 Likes |

many Nigerians are the most hopeless people on this planet. Expecting logic defying miracles all the time. There are probably around 2000 doctors employed by lagos State, to serve a population of over 20 million people. That a ratio of 1 doctor to more than 10000 people. The average doctor in a Govt hospital allegedly sees 50+ patients daily. Given these stats, how the heck do you expect to get an immediate appointment to see the overworked, overwhelmed doctor? Nigerians don't like hard work. Tackle your Governments. Make healthcare a MASSIVE issue during elections so that politicians know they'd better focus on it. But they will not. It is easier, afterall, to praise Governors for tarring roads and then blame the doctors that are struggling under the load. My cousin served in one of the South South States as a Medical doctor. He was there when the Governor declared free medical care for rural women and children without making any efforts to hire more doctors. Overnight, the number of patients quadrupled and guess who suffered for it? In Nigeria, if you cannot afford private care, you owe it to yourself to be vocal in demanding for better public healthcare. 11 Likes |

well, i guess we re all to be blamed. health workers should be more courteous in their approach to patients, just calmly explain to them. nut u cant really blame them, they re stretched too thin, because of the patient load, and they are understaffed. thats why, unless its an emergency, a farther appointment date will be given to you, the clinic is booked already . kindly go to a private hospital and get attended to on time. we can advocate for more health workers to be employed, and adequately renumerated, cos the rate at which they re leaving Nigeria, we might just wake up one day, and discover our hospitals are virtually emptied 1 Like |
