Thanks goodness you already addressed that Nacho analysis. because indeed Nacho is more dangerous cutting in from the right and not the left as he said. And that is only as a wing forward in a 4-3-3 not as a traditional winger.
Also Nacho does function beautifully as in a false 9/double false 9 approach or with two up top. He just needs one with the right off ball movements and not a static.

Nna, naija most naija media are becoming nothing more than tabloid trash. I always wonder what happened to journalism in Nigeria. When I left in 1997, naija journos were some of the best in the business especially the newspapers and the news magazines. Today, they are becoming an eyesore to the profession.

Sometimes I wonder whether they still have news editors any more. Or they now publish whatever trash that comes their way shocked

Mickael2:

it is one thing going against the coach's instruction( let's say the coach told you to be running inwards as the winger and you decide to be hugging the byline) and its another thing entirely for you to change your entire formation on your own. They definetly didn't just come up with the formation that day, they must have tried it in training on their own and decided it was the best. The fact that you do not know the difficulties that plagued that 98 team is...well either you are trying to deny the fact or it's just disappointing coming from you, no offence

Firstly, Look, there is no group or team that doesn't face challenges especially football teams. Not all get out to the public domain. You cannot as an outsider know exactly about all the challenges a team faces or faced. Get that clear.

And on players going against the coach's instructions, it is a common occurrence. They are not robots. They are the ones on the field of play and their footballing instincts sometimes tell them what to do and it is not all only about what instructions the coach has passed down. Sometimes the coach allows the players that little bit of freedom to use their footballing(especially for professionals) instinct at certain situations. I don't know the level to which you played football. But I am telling you based on my knowledge of football both as a player and as a coach.

And please this course you have chosen will not make you enjoy the WC. You have put your self in a position whereby if Nigeria should beat Croatia you you will not know how to face peeps here.

Calm down bro. Just believe. There is no harm in it. Even if we lose will that take food away from your table? You have nothing to lose if you believe and the team fails.

We are fans need to stand together for the team now.

Looks like we played badly from the few comments I've seen on twitter.
Caught like a two minute glimpse of the game and I noticed something a bit odd - Iwobi was playing behind Mikel. Was it a one off thing or it happened for a bit??
Oh and baba Forgiveness, your analysis please.

Ah! Sorry for the late reply.

I was so busy throughout yesterday that I couldn't read comments at a point before I slept.

I didn't see the first half and I had divided attention in the second half.

However, I really liked what I saw and I was impressed because we created alot of chances but they were not potent at goal and didn't pass to the best man in the best position to score.

This happened 2-3 times when Brian had 2 - 3 chances to square pass to Ighalo and Victor but he decided to take the glory.

Beside this, he combined well with other players to create those chances. I hope he got the message when he was pulled out and I hope Rohr shows him the clip again to teach him what he ought to have done better which is his primarily duty to play for the forwards and fed them first before he thinks of scoring.

On the other side, I can see Ebuehi is growing in confidence to drive forward more often than before but I can still see a little bit retrain in his movement because he is very cautious of his defence.

I think he needs to speak with the players to cover for him and trust the player to help him watch his back pending he makes full recovery back to his position. Once, he is sure about it, Ebuehi will bring alot of damages to our rivals when he attacks. He is very good and not selfish like Brian.

Once, we are able to maximise attack from the right side like we do on the left, we are good to go because that is the strength of this formation.

The three man defence is ok but I hope Rohr makes it paralle with 5 players when defending and allow the forwards to defend on the flanks.

In midfield, Iwobi should be allowed to move up ahead of Mikel but I understand he had to help to defend on wing once the LWB surges forward.

I was impressed with how they retained and recovered possession as much as possible with urgency, and with quick passes and fast movement. It's unlikely of our usual style of play.

The attack lacks cordination and cohesion. They need to gel.

I think this is where we might have problem because of lack of natural wingers. This is were problem go dey but I hope Rohr has a solution to that.

Victor Moses was very impressive this time around and Ighalo also did well.

I think Iwobi should combine with Moses or he is allowed to play directly behind them.

Anyway, my final verdict is that this team against Czech played better than the team against, England, Poland and Serbia.

I will watch the match again and have a holistic view of the match. I just gave what I saw in the second half.

you know from the England Match onazi said some can't be running while some will be walking on the pitch, I know he was referring to Mikel because he was trying to pass to Mikel before Hary Kane scored. Rohr should save his job by putting any bad egg on the bench. Same way keshi did to Moses

Personally, I was hoping to see Kelechi and Simy get an extensive run also, so we can fully assess all of them. Having said that, I really can't blame Ighalo for our lack of goals because he didn't receive good services either. I don't expect him to become a Messi who can create his own chances. He might not have scored but it isn't like he missed chances upon chances either.

We need a better coordinated play and move the ball quicker in the final third.

This is inline with my earlier post that as a professional, Rohr cant be blind to his errors and how to make corrections ;

Rohr said, "We have to work on some areas and make some changes in defence and attack. There is time to be ready for the World Cup. Some players are pushing to be considered and it’s a good thing to have competition in the team”

So sir Icon4s lower your temper, no one loves the team more

And he should quit with the excuses.

Yes sir,... We need someone to pass this message to him. Maybe he has forgotten that Nigeria is a big name in international football.

I wonder what the Nigerians close to him are doing... We need Power, aggressiveness and grit in our games. We need to bulldoze our way through teams.

in addition, are we beginning to loose our physicality as an african side? african sides are known to always bully their way thru the opposition, if you watch the 94 team against bulagria, you will see ruggedness, can't this team just add ruggedness to their play, the europeans are already technical, you want to match their technicality without ruggedness? what a joke

Exactly what I am saying.. Someone among the Nigerian staff working with Rohr has to pass this information to him.

We need ruggedness, aggressiveness and power play in our games.

We will not entertain any excuse for failure.... This is the best prepared Nigerian squad going into a tournament. If he doesn't get to atleast the Quarter finals.... Then let him be Sacked

I just need to give my humble take on this team..

[b]Formation: it is obvious, this team looks stronger with the 3-5-2 formation...we might struggle with a 4-2-3-1 formation against Croatia cos they have better quality players than we do..they would be gaps that their quality midfielders can spray passes to and explore..with the 3-5-2 formation, we seem to keep possession better and also look sturdy in defence since there is always an extra man helping out..

Players: if we stick to the 3-5-2 formation, I would suggest playing Moses as a LWB,playing him as part of the 2 forwards would be a waste of his strength.. he would still be our main threat because as a wingback, some of the spaces idowu was getting into, Moses would cause more damage there...he has played all season long as a wingback anyways..I know some would disagree with me but Moses strength lies in carrying the ball...Rohr should find a way to help cover his area whenever we are attacking with him. Moses needs to attack from the wing, that is where he is most dangerous not from the center..

We should just play nacho and iwobi as our 2 false9 with iwobi dropping to AM to control the play up the field with Mikel..

Ighalo is not the forward we need in that 3-5-2, he doesn't have the movement or his dynamic enough..he has good strength and hold up play but nacho would do a better job running into space and stretching the Croatian defence..

Ndidi and Etebo with Mikel on top of them should do in the midfield..etebo can carry the ball from deep and also have the calmness to keep possession with his dribbles..

I'm sure you guys already know how the rest of the team would look like....

Takeaway: no matter the quality of the opposition, we tend to stifle them better with 3-5-2. if Rohr does insist on using 4-2-3-1, Mikel needs to come back to CM to control the game from deep and let Iwobi do his thing as an AM..but we run serious risk with this formation. Thou it worked well in qualifiers, we would struggle against more disciplined and tactical European teams with that formation..

my takeaway from the pre- world cup friendlies uzoho has grown in performance and confidence boy will serve nigeria for many years.

can't just put a finger on why we always start slowly in our matches even happened in our qualifiers except for zambia away. we need to get out of the blocks firing.

still can't understand why we are always unorganized during set-pieces it's become a running gag which i'm sure like most super eagles we are not amused by.

only small consolation is that our group rivals are not having the best of times. infact it seems the team that does well in our group is the one that's least shitty.

still behind the super eagles 100% we can do this

If that news is true (and that's a big IF), then Onazi should be sent home from the camp immediately. It's better we take 22 players to Russia then rotten fruit in our midst. A little leaven, the bible says, leavened the whole lump. But I seriously doubt the veracity of that story. Personally, I can't see Onazi acting in that childish manner. He's a professional.

I mean, the journos didn't even cite any named sources to validate their story either. Trust me, these guys are not even anywhere close to the team, they are somewhere in Oshodi fabricating BS just because the team lost yesterday. What happened here is that they saw the quote attributed to Onazi after the England friendly, that seems to throw shades at Mikel, so they decided to fabricate this crap in order to sale more newspapers.

yes we are a big but sometimes you just have to be realistic that in terms of outstanding talents we are not there yet. it's only iceland you can reasonably say you expect us to beat even then they are no pushovers. croatia and argentina have higher rated players than us so it will be a big achievement getting past either of the two teams.
