It is a very good lesson to all of us especially those who were shouting and bringing religious sentiment into the matter, stressing that the man was going through such ordeal because the president wants to frustrate the business of Innoson because he Innoson is a Christian. We can now see that the president does not interfere into the activities of the various institutions. Else, he could have as well, influence the outcome of this matter even at the supreme court. Real profit or a book profit? no organization/bank will pay such an amount as damages and won't feel the effect. best they can do is just to find a way to manage the situation so that it doesn't start to affect customers.

I also read where it was written that the 12 billion should be paid within 14days. do you know the implication of that? those in finance would understand better. I for one never believe in the huge profit declared by all these banks.

Am not saying GTB never made such profit in 2017 but the fact is that banks account are always cooked just to deceive their investors and customers.

This will serve as a test and lesson to all banks operating within the country. Let's see how they respond to this. A good riddance to bad rubbish

They paid a dividend of N2.40. If it was book profit, there would be no dividends.

The would only feel the effect because nobody likes to lose money.

As far as I can tell from Innoson's own Twitter account, they haven't won the case. GTB has been ordered to put the amount in escrow against the final judgement in the case.

You are among the few sensible ones here....this is a quote....

“...the court struck the motion for stay of execution of the Enugu court of appeal division’s order that GT Bank pays N6 billion into an interest yielding account...”

So, the Supreme Court had not ruled on the merit of the case before it, but merely ruled on an interlocutory case, where GTB begged the Supreme Court Court to stay the order of the lower court pending the decision on merit by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court struck out that interlocutory case and allowed the Enugu court judgement to remain in full effect i.e. GTB should paid into an interesting yielding account.

Now, GTB appeal will proceed on the merits i.e. the meats and substance of the case will be heard.

Though, I must say that; higher courts usually only allow lower courts judgements to stay pending appeal, if there is reason to believe that the lower court judgement will survive the appeal, so this is a kudos to Innoson, but they should not rest sha....this will also put more pressure on GTB to settle out of court including the criminal case against Innoson currently working its way through the lower courts.
