Wassup everybody, how y'all doing? Hope cool sha. The San marzanos are one messed up specie I tell u walahi only one of them got to the flowering stage, and it even still got infected so I got no fruit at all, NONE! Naija is a bastard. So I'm growing commercially this month. I got some padma 108 f1 seeds, the land is somehow small sha, 100 by 100. But it should yield something reasonable. Biko who knows any Agrotech company in Benin? And Mr. Jidestroud shay the padma variety is good enough for commercial farms?

I thought tomato do well only in the north o
Tomato definitely can be grown outside the Northern parts too, though different variables must be put into account.

Padma 108 F1 is a sure good indeterminate type. I am more of an heirloom type. And to your question of it being good for commercial exploits? Yes!!!

1. when do I get to transplant
2. The land I intend using is kinder water loged, would their be an issue? Due to it being raining season

I am already having bug problem I don't have neem leave around I need options.. thanks

Hi, sorry about the late response

There are quite a few reasons chlorosis occur in green plants (in this case), few possible causes ranging from poor drainage, damaged roots, compacted roots, high soil pH, and nutrient deficiencies in the plant. Nevertheless, in this particular case (Though picture not clear enough), just add manure to increase the Nitrogen level. If you practice inorganic farming (which I strongly oppose), you could introduce NPK fertilizer with more of the Nitrogen (10:5:5 of 20:10:10) or Urea with manure.

There's really nothing to worry about, your plants are doing just fine.

Thanks I have added organic manure yesterday.

cont'd

I intend planting the fluted pumpkin harvested from the garden back.

Broke the pod apart and brought out the seeds.
From the look of things, the planting would be done ASAP because the seeds have started to break apart (sign of germination).

I will sundry for some hours and plant in the evening.

Also, prepared and planted some tomatoes / cabbage in the nursery.

I would be going to in the day to get some cucumber seeds and pepper.

Exactly 12 Days After

Finally, I get to see my field ugu mines sprout forth!!! Lol. Today makes it exactly 2days short of a week. Quite a long one if you asked me but, goodness, virtually ALL germinated grin

My Sweet Corn ain't doing half as bad. I look forward to a successful garden this 2018.

Unfortunate Event

Despite the success recorded in the planting of the fluted pumpkin, same cannot be said of with the tomatoes and cabbage. I broke my very own rule; I left my garden unattended to for about a week as a tight schedule at work place. Everything dried off. And like my favourite lines from GOT; what is dead may die no more, your watch ends here, I am discarding all and replanting again.

Thanks for dropping by,

Your ugu plants are due to be transplanted any moment from now. On the issue of the area for intended planting, you can go ahead and make ridge/ raised beds.
For the bugs/insects, I only promote organic methods and you don't really have to go looking for dongoyaro everywhere, you can now buy Neem oil from our various online stores: jumia, konga etc

Sorry for the late response

Day 13: (Staking Prep)

What a sunday!!! Since I have made up my mind on planting the fluted pumpkin just for seed production, staking them wouldn't be a bad idea.

Chai, this is about the most tasking event carried out so far in my garden; from the bamboo hunting/cutting, draging it down, cutting to required lengths and spacing etc. (The tambolo bites no be here ooo...if you know, you know grin)

Note: Staking really as little or no effect on the ugu output arguebly though!!! So if it's for leave production, it's of no essence.

Sorry about that.
I have a piece of land at the outskirts of PH, about a quarter plot on which I have planted well-spaced plantains already.
Goats roam about and destroy crops in the vicinity.
Questions
1. Is it late to plant any other crop at this time of the year on that same plot of plant?
2. What type of plant can I cultivate there?

Straight to the question asked, (though the land in question is a very limiting one) No, it's not too late to intercrop alongside your plantains but there are many variables to ascertain first;
What's your plantain spacing like (measurements)? What's your schedule (availability) like ? etc. Before choosing plants to intercrop, you must know there is a plants enter into a complex interaction with each other resulting in either an increase or decrease in harvest.
Plantain in itself is a deep irrigated crop, with lots of shades not beneficial to most other crops.
Nevertheless, if I were to intercrop with plantain though, I would go for sweet potatoes; (the environment produced by the plantain is most beneficial to potatoes), or you could also go for cocoyam.

Quick Update

I haven't been doing much update in here but you bet a lot have been going on behind the curtains. My garden will be getting some introductions soonest.

Nevertheless, every other plants seem to be doing just fine, starting from the;

1. Ugu
2. Sweet corn
3. Tomatoes and
4. Soko (Lagos spinach)

Tomato update

Well, I was not complacent this time around. I did the replanting and got what was needed. Trimmed it down to one per container.
It's the rainy season so much care will be employed throughout the growing period. I wouldn't want my tomatoes coming down with diseases of any type.

Made my dongoyaro (neem) mix and would be spraying from time to time ( I a strictly organic).

I got my black soap from a local traditionalists store "elewe omo" (A local herb seller/doctor).

On neem extract, how I prepared mine has already been explained in this thread. You could also get the neem oil from online e-commerce stores. It's readily available and more effective that the neem leaves.

You switch to black soap thought you make use of morning fresh, that’s the picture of my neem extract, thanks to the insight from this thread, I will post my backyard spinach garden later, no much talk.

You’ve been a blessing to my ginja

Not at all. I do not soak in hot water before planting. I simply mix with sand and disperse, that's all.

Latest Development

Got good news for all. I will be opening a new thread on my pilot project with 2acres and 3plots. Congratulations to me!!! I think I'm good to go.

Got a 2acres and 3plots around Igbesa (Itekun to be precise), Ogun state. Well, for those who are familiar with that axis, there are two routes to the farmland; Through Lusada or through the waterways; Iyana-sashi along Lagos - Badagry Expressway. For me, The latter is far more convenient. (Except for those who are afraid crossing water on boats. Not me)
