Good afternoon everyone, please is the US embassy allowed to have access to a sponsor's bank account? probably for background checks.

Everything you submitted to the embassy remains embassy's property and can be verified.

So my experience.
Interview date: 8th of June
Time: 6:45

I got there 5:35, then they called 6:30 first then 6:45 next. We went through the whole security checks and all, man I was scared afff but I was over prepared so I kept my cool.
Got in and did the thumb print then queued for the visa. So quickly, people abeg apply to a good school and answer the question they asked you pls. A girl went before me and nailed herself. She did well until she was asked until she was asked to mention the schools she applied to ( iglobal, and 2 other universities that are not that bad) but immediately the VO heard iglobal, the VO asked the girl to mention the schools again, and that was when I knew she nailed herself. The funny thing is she wasn't going to iglobal, but she applied. She was also asked "did you take any exam"? She answered: I tool IELTS, but it was not required!!! I felt bad for the babe sha. So my own proper (in no particular order)

VO: Goodmorning (smiling)
Me: Goodmorning (trying to hide nervousness)
VO: so where are you going?
Me: Morehouse college, Atlanta Georgia
VO: To do what ?
ME: To get my bachelors degree in computer science
VO: how did you get to know about the school?
ME: it was introduced to me by Mrs ********* grin , who's the advisor at educationUsa, then I learnt more using Collegeboard big future and I used commonapp to apply
VO: Did you use this commonapp to apply to other schools?
ME: Yes, I did apply to 9 other schools
VO: Wow, you (I didn't hear the rest)
ME: Yes I applied to 9 then I mentioned (Davidson college and the rest)
VO: Davidson college? Where?
ME: North Carolina
VO: so why computer science?
ME: I chose to study computer science because I have a strong desire for innovations and would love to have a career in software engineering because virtually every industry in Nigeria today uses a computer, and a degree in this field would give me a career that is marketable in any business environment and with just one degree, I can work in the engineering field, medical field..e.t.c
VO: Good
ME: (smiling) grin
VO: Who's sponsoring you?
ME: I got $40k in scholarship per academic year and my aunt (VO cuts in)
VO: That's a huge amount of money (smiling)
ME: I was just relaxed at this point grin
VO: How did you get it?
Me: I took the SAT, TOEFL (cuts in again)
VO: What did you score on the SAT?
ME: I got 1430 on the new SAT
VO: That's a good score
ME: (I was just thinking about how I'll locate the pick up location) grin
VO: I've approved your visa.....

grin grin I heard the rest, but I can't remember rn. That's it broskis!! Thank you all

WHY ARE YOU GOING TO THE U.S ?
I am going to the U.S to pursue a certificate in network and system administration

WHY USA
Its a known fact that USA has one of the best educational systems with valuable theoretical knowledge and practical skills
Too much information, the consular officer already knows this. This questions simply means, "what does your school have that you can't find in Nigeria". Clear answers like Facilities, e.g state of the art workstations, and GPU's for Brute force attack simulations, or access to wide range of powerful cloud computing infrastructure etc

WHEN DID YOU FINISH HIGH SCHOOL
2013

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING
After my nysc i got a job in the IT industry first as a customer support and implementation personnel and then an IT consultant in a hospital

Problem No. 1 prerequisite , you have a degree or an equivalent of a degree, and have done the NYSC, and work.
SO WHY ARE YOU GOING FOR A CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
After years of working in the IT sectors which totally changed my life. I developed passion for it especially when it comes to networking which i never learned formally. So i decided to get my self certified Which i spoke to my boss about and she said carry on, the company will support you fully.
sounds cheesy grin grin.. passion and all that idealistic talk; most Nigerians are just looking for a big payday cheesy

TELL ME YOUR STUDY PLAN
I will be taking a 30 credit hours courses which include english composition, introduction to business, introduction to computer science and so on which i intend not to work so as to be fully focused and achieve my goal.
mentioning work, when the VO hasn't brought it up is akin to dousing yourself with fuel before visiting a bonfire; suicide!!! grin

HOW MANY SCHOOL DID YOU APPLY TO
4. Jamestown community college, Jefferson community college, Dutchess community college ,westchester community college and Jamestown community college

HOW MANY ADMIT
2. Jamestown and jefferson cc
we're almost there to problem No. 1 cheesy

SO WHY JAMESTOWN
Because according to my research there course curriculum suits my area of interest and also just like other community colleges smaller class room and better relationship with the professors
Almost everything you have said here will sound like lies to the VO, because like you stated earlier, you have a degree, so why in God's damn name would you be spending hard earned dollars to go to america to get a f*cking
associate degree. with the amount of our brethren who go to the US with F1 of 4 year institutions and abscond to Community colleges, the US embassy is not very thrilled to hear some poorly rehearsed story about passions and community colleges

WHAT WILL THIS COURSE DO FOR YOU
At the end of the course i would have wide theoretical knowledge and practical skills on implementing and maintaining network and also monitor activities, support hardware and software issues
What this course will in reality do for you is waste your damn money, and buy you enough time to "port" the Nigerian way. A community college with underpaid staff, and a horde of adjunct instructors, frustrated and depressed beyond a psychiatrists wet dream isn't going to give you state of the art skills to edge out the average american.

HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS SCHOOL
It was fully recommended to my by my boss at work and after my own personal online research about the school

if the interview does get here, the VO is probably just stalling. But bosses recommendation seems like a good cliché

WHO IS SPONSORING
My Place of work, P..........Hospital
TOTAL BUNKUM!!!. why in the name of Zeus's tiny temper would a Hospital sponsor you for a networking associate degree at a community college!!!, this would be the worst sounding lie ,that the VO hears, that you would be the topic of discussion at the end of week Mockery amongst themselves.
If you must lie, remember you're lying to the people who know the American system way more than you do grin.

WHAT WILL YOU DO AFTER YOUR STUDY
I have promotion waiting for me back in my place of work and i will also be working with some NGO’s to close fix loopholes in the networking system in nigeria
Somehow, the Hospital sponsoring you for an associate degree in Networking also has a promotion waiting for you, Jesus!!!!!.. how much worse can these responses get!. also NGO's in Nigeria don't fix loopholes in Networking...Engineers and the open source community aren't dead yet.
****
This transcript gets 8/100; your age , class of degree, sponsorship, and totally out of place responses will ensure that your bank account balance reduces by 54000NGN for no reason. If at all you're going to stick to the community college, fix your sponsorship details, and funding, and come up with responses that show that you've spent at least a decade of your life in formal education.

Just this point alone disqualifies him. I don't want to know if it's true or not, 10 out of 10, anyone will see that as a fat lie. How could an hospital sponsor someone not for medical seminar, leadership workshop or for skill acquisition program but associate degree. Of what importance is he to the hospital? Probably the hospital is family owned.

Sorry for your denial, but I think out of the 3 main questions she asked you, you only answer one correctly, others were not straight to the point
e.g
V.o : So tell me the duration of the program, the courses u will take
Me: It is a 45 credit unit course, i will be taking 24unit core courses and 21 units in my major, Some of the courses include biostatistics, epidemiology, general environmental health, social and behavioural science and there will be a compulsory 300hours applied learnig experince at a community site, this practical exposure will make me a better health education resource when i come back to nigeria.

Your answer should have started with 36month for the duration and not credit unit course....

yellowman91:
Visa denied today at lagos, 7:15am interview, please kindly comment on any errors noticed , i would love to reapply. Please if any body knows if westchester is redflagged kindly indicate..
I confidently answerd all the questions she asked
: When i got there she asked the following questions in this order
She was dishing out blue paper like mad
I think the lady that attended to me is just a sadist
Vo: Pass me your passport and i20
Me: Which i did
: V.o: what will the program do for you ?
Me: It will equip me with the knowledge to practice more competently and professionally as a community pharmacist and will aslo give me the leverage to partner with ngos of federal ministry of health in a bid to reduce disease burden when i come back to nigeria
V.o: whats your highest qualification ?
Me: B. Pharm degree
: V.o What do u mean by b.pharm, ?
Me: bachelor of pharmacy
: V.o When did u graduate ?
Me: Didnt hear her well, so i said xxxx university.
V.o: When
Me: 2015
V.o: what have you bn doing since then
Me:Me: Went for a compulsory one year internship training programme in xxxx teaching hosp, and then proceeded for my nysc prog in a state specialist hospital in delta state.
And i got a job since then in 2017 as a supreintendent pharmacist of Bleep pharmacy in Bleep state.
V.o: How many uni did u apply to ?
: Me: I applied to 4 uni
: V.o so why this particular one ?
Me: Apart from the fact that west chester uni has an mph programme that is ceph accredited, i wanted to say what ceph means so she cut me short, and said i should continue, i'm more intrested in its well established mph multidisciplinary curriculum that focus on problem solving researches and professional development, additionally i will, then she cut me short
: V.o: we have lots of people today, so dont mind me cutting u
: Me: I smiled
: V.o: who pays for the trip
: Me: My dad
: V.o : what does he do ?
: Me: He is a civil engineer and he is the ceo of olubi construction company in osogbo, he majors in properties and infrastructural development and also invest in real estate
: V.o: Can i see his account statement ?
: Me: Yes, u can have it
V.o: She then meticulously flipped through the account statement page by page for about 2 minutes
Me: V.o She then asked what is the name of your dad
: Me: Bleep xxxxxx xxxxxxx

She then paid attention to the cover letter and then checked the front page of the statement of account again, but i doubt if she checked the balance well

She then returned the soa copy to me
V.o : So tell me the duration of the program, the courses u will take
Me: It is a 45 credit unit course, i will be taking 24unit core courses and 21 units in my major, Some of the courses include biostatistics, epidemiology, general environmental health, social and behavioural science and there will be a compulsory 300hours applied learnig experince at a community site, this practical exposure will make me a better health education resource when i come back to nigeria.
V.o: She then typed for more than 3minutes which she never did for other applicants
And then gave me a blue paper, what are my errors ?

if it was family owned, then he'd be better off, putting up his parents as sponsors.

Thanks for your critics i will work on it but I actually work in the hospital as an IT consultant, cus the hospital runs on an electronic system

Common, why would you still list the community colleges you have used 3 months ago. You were denied because VOs don't believe in community colleges(According to popular comments). No need to mention those community issh again. List the universities that you applied to.. If you are asked how many give u admission, list them. But be ready to have good answer for why you choose the one you are going to.... Guru in the house can still correct my comment.... Just answering you base on experience I have gained here....

My first interview was very dry and even I was not impressed maybe because I got timid seeing 2 people denied before me. (Abuja)

VO: Good Morning
Me: Morning
VO: So you are going to Maharishi University of Management
Me: Yes I am
VO: How many Schools did you apply to
Me: 3
VO: Mention Them
Me: Devry University, University of Manitoba
VO: Why did you choose this school
Me: Because they are affordable and their course fit perfectly well (He cuts in)
VO: Who is Sponsoring you
My Father
VO: What does he do
Me: He is a welder, He is into building of Iron gates, doors and bulglary
VO: Have you ever travelled before
Me: No
VO: Are you married
Me: No

My second Interview was more Robust.
It was a raining day in Lagos that day, even the VOs came in late.

VO: Good morning
Me: morning
VO: Can you pass your I-20
Me: passed it to him
VO: so you are going to study masters in computer science
Me: yes
VO: tell me about the software's applications you have built
Me: As a software developer in financial institution; I have worked on ATM and POS dispute management application, which helps POS merchants log chargeback and get resolution on transactions failures; (the VO wasn't even looking up at all );
I also worked on Coperate expense system management, this software allows Coperate organisation manage their expenses thereby putting in place the necessary approval before fund are disbursed. In this way company expenditure can be monitored.

VO: How many did you apply to
Me: 3
VO: mention them
Me: Devry University and University of Illinois
VO: so why did you choose this school
Me: having worked for some years as a practical software developer the school course content fit perfectly well into my current experience and my future career goal; I am aiming at rising from being a mere software developer to being a software architect which will make me a valuable asset when I return back to my home country.
VO: are you married?
Me: No
VO: Can I have your account statement
Me: pass it to him
VO: {Checking and was looking through it page by page; he concentrated on it for some time; dropped it and started typing on his system; he stopped again and now started looking @ the statement flow one by one} ...stopped for a while; (my opening balance was 18000 and closing balance 1.6million; I have a financial aid assistance that requires me to only have 1.2million; it's a 6months account statement)
VO: what is the course's duration
Me: 32months
VO: am sorry; visa was denied. NO HOME tied

Please help me guys... What am I doing wrong...
I am not required to write any standardised test as the school has conducted some online test and interviews; this is also stated in my I-20 form. That I don't require any standardised test

Please is it okay if I go with 2 SOAs (both from same sponsor) ...one with good inflow and outflow but no significant balance, and a second with enough funds to cover the I20. My sponsor(sister) intends to write a letter that d first is d acct she runs for her business and dt she saves what's left in d other account with just deposit activity from time to time. I can also seize an opportunity to explain dis myself to d vo

You can go with all the document and explain clearly in a convincing manner !! They don't have any problem bring 2 or more statement ! Mine was drop box and the document I attached in there were too much and they where well detailed. Even person wey dey primary school will understand the document . Just two statement you have no issue at all !!

1. I'm not too comfortable with your school. You have to change your school to one that has some degree of reputation.

2. Truth is, 95% of people who say "my school does not require a test" are those that were too scared to write the GRE and were searching for shortcuts via schools that do not require the GRE. I don't know if you fall in that category but you obviously know that writing a standardized test would have helped your case. If you knew, why did you ignore the tests? Sometimes we create problems for ourselves by playing safe at all times.

3. I can infer via your transcript that you applied to just 1 (or 2 schools). In your first interview, you said you applied to Devry and Manitoba. In your second interview, you said you applied to Devry and University of Illinois (). University of Illinois at where? Urbana Champaign or Chicago? A smart VO can smell lies from those responses and I want to caution you about saying inconsistent stuffs in your interviews. The more inconsistent you sound, the more difficult it becomes.

4. Your "why this school" question seems generic. Try and give specifics. What and what about your school curriculum interests you? Give some names, sound specific!

Goodluck!

Good day.

Please a friend wants to go for her Masters In the US. She studied microbiology and desires a cheap school in the US.

Kindly assist with suggestions on the schools and how she will go about it.

Thank you

Tell your 'friend' to do a Google search. It is that easy. No matter what is suggested here, your 'friend' will still make the final decision. When you do the bulk of the research yourself, it is then productive to get useful suggestions here.

By the way, why didn't your friend attend American University of Nigeria since you own the school? Lol
