They did respond to my enquiry. However, uni policy prevents them from corresponding with UKVI concerning student visa applied for outside of the UK.

LaaJiblik:

It’s really very unusual to hear that a UK school fails to respond to enquiries.
May I suggest you use a computer, check your emails, go to SPAM/Junk folder, and be sure that their reply hasn’t been filtered as SPAM?

schools make enquiry from UKVI about visa issued to prospective students, when i had delayed in my cisa issuance my school took it up, and before UKVI informed me of a decision three days later, my school informed me i had been issued visa earlier.

Hello Aphrodite007, I understand your concern, however it's unfair for you to respond with "Nigerians are good at tolerating bad customer service" in this situation. What would you have me do? Go to the UK without a visa and demand to speak with someone? Or reject my admission, scholarship and cancel my visa application? The most I can do is send emails and call.

If I had a scholarship and all I had to do is pick a uni to study at, I would make them beg me to study in their uni. There’s almost no school I know about that takes longer than 5 working days to respond to you, unless the school is backwards. You are doing hem a favour by picking them to study in their uni, not the other way around so you should be served accordingly.

Unless the school is the one giving you the scholarship, I advise you go to a school that would treat you like a king. So yes, if a school hesistates to respond to you, mail them explaining your displeasure at their service, then look for another school.

I know how my school pampered me throughout, even when I was sick. I had small problem with my housemates and they sent me vouchers and a letter of apology. Even my friend that had problems with UKVI, my school sorted it out immediately! I mean, You are paying money to study, it’s not free, you deserve to be served better! Simple.

You need to slow down madam, I think it is the school that is giving him scholarship. His options are limited and YES there are many schools in UK (I know many) where the international department are so slow in dealing with issues.

Please bear in mind that there are many schools in UK.

Emphasis on the bolded.

Cos, duh, If a school is giving you scholarship you have no right to complain as a beggar is not a chooser. I expressly stated that one is at liberty to complain if they are paying the tuition or they owned the scholarship.

My initial post was to see if anyone had applied on the same day as me and if they were having any delay in getting their passport back. So I have picked a uni, applied for CAS and applied for a tier 4 visa. I never said the school didn't respond. I said they were not helpful because they stated that uni policy prevents them from corresponding with UKVI regarding T4 visas made outside of the UK. It's great that your university was able to do all of that for you. Mine was not a case of not providing a service because they wanted to be tardy, it was a we don't provide this service due to uni policy. Policies change all the time and this was why I asked someone here what service did his school provide for him and what his school's name was so I could let my uni know. I hope you understand. You saying "Nigerians tolerate bad service" makes me feel like the uni is offering me such poor service (when in fact they don't offer the service) and being the Nigerian that I am, I tolerate it.

Ok.

My very close friend had a similar problem with UKVI, he even resumed a week after I did but my school followed the matter. Like you said, your school doesnt offer the policy, so you either deal with that or you don’t. I was just telling you what happens in other places.

And Nigerians tolerating bad service is very true. It’s a hofstede theory. We come from an oppressive background where we seldom challenge authority unless we are exposed to the western culture (eg, Nigerians can’t even remove the president, who was placed to serve them!). So stop making emphasis on that. I did say “Nigerians” and to the best of my knowledge, I’m nigerian too.

You schooled in the UK and should know better to stop with the generalisations. You also should have been taught that before you make conclusions, you should have all information. How did you even come to the conclusion that @akfaa tolerated bad service based on initial information given by him?

Thank God @akfaa has given further details to show it has nothing to do with accepting bad service.

Lastly, some Nigerians I know have been challenging authorities since university days. They did not need exposure to the western culture to demand what is right.

Do have a beautiful weekend.

Ehya, sorry I didn’t count the number of Nigerians that tolerate bad customer service before posting. I should do this more often and stop generalising, after all, I’m educated and speaking to people that can’t comprehend without me spelling it out to them. Sorry iye.

Next time, when I say stuff like, “Nigerians are suffering”, or “Nigeria lacks proper health infrastructure”, I’ll be sure to put out the percentage so you guys can get the drift! (“Get the drift” means to understand, comprehend. I explain this to avoid confusion. Maybe the next warning I’ll get is to not use slangs! Kmt).

If I were in your shoes, Well my answer is simple. Tell the truth. You have a sister in UK right? Is she in same state with your school? If yes, I would answer the interviewer as such;

Interviewer; where would you stay while schooling?

Me: I already looked up some houses online but would physically go check them up when I enter the UK. While looking for the house, I would stay in my sisters place for a couple of days till I get my own accommodation closer to the school.

4 years long term gap? No. You were working and now you have decided to pursue a masters along your profession to better position you in your industry.
Normally, only documents listed on your CAS are documents to take with you but you can take others along if you feel like.

Your sister lives in Sunderland?

No employment letter is not needed as long as its not listed in your CAS.

Someone already told you how to rectify the mistake. I understand you could be panicking cos this is your first time but you honestly have nothing to worry about.

If I were in your shoes, I would not change it IF (1) my sister stays in London legally (2) I would be arriving Uk at least a week before my program starts. If these conditions are met, see my answer below.

Interviewer; where would you stay while schooling?

Me: I would stay in London with my sister for the weekend I arrive England while I view houses I already looked up online in Sunderland. I should get my own apartment within 3 days of arriving England. Let the interviewer know you have seen some online but you want to inspect them physically before you make payment. Emphasis on staying for a while and would get your apartment soon.

There is no right or wrong answer for most questions asked by the interviewer.... all you need to do is give a good reason for your answer.

There is no right or wrong answer for most questions asked by the interviewer.... all you need to do is give a good reason for your answer.

In addition to the above i would suggest you get an accomodation if possible or get a license to occupy ( my school gave me this without paying anything) it was very instrumental to my interview, Because they will always ask you about your accommodation plans and it is more convincing and promising to tell them you already have an accomodation. Mine was so bad that they asked for the post code and cost of my accomodation how far it is or how many mins to my school, and how much it would cost to transport ( i am not saying these to scare but it is better to be well prepared). So ur narration can go as: i would be arriving at my sister place and then moving to my accomodation at ....

i would advise to put your Work reference, even my school required this in my application. NB it is not absolutely necessary as it is not a document stated on the CAS. But advisable if you are riskier applicant because it would show evidence that you don't have a study gap, and you're not idle in your home country. if you earn a decent salary also include this in the employment/reference letter.
