I got to know that Emir Sanusi of Kano is the Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), and the great Alaafin of Oyo is the Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID). Some students barely know their Chancellor or one exists.
This is cool, but what are their duties as Chancellors?

1. to employ suitable management staff that can handle d university affairs
2. make sure things are working by chasing out bad eggs
3. checking the power of the vice chancellor

if its a private Uni, yes he can. if its a public Uni, well he can report to the senate and get his wish. In public Uni, his power is more ceremonial. dosent mean he cannot take advantage of that position and clean up the school if he wants 2

It's a ceremonial position. They do not really take part in administrative duties apart from those delegated by the management.

Though, I disagree on the power to sack. I think it's the pro-chancellor, as the chairman of the governing council, that can sack the VC

The Chancellor is often a first class king or a renown clergyman. His role is more of ceremonial. The pro-chancellor, on the other hand, is the chairman of the governing council.
