Nigerian doctor, Chioma @Deekachy_md, shared the photos of the elderly woman, Alhaja Alakija, who according to her has lived with sickle cell anemia for 94 years. She shared the photos to disabuse the minds of Nigerians who believe that Sickle cell patients can't live longer than 22.

Now I am beginning to have hope

Prevention is still the best. I can't imagine how much goes to her medical bills, how many families can afford that? Asides that, it is a life of constant pain.

Before you go too far in a relationship, know your genotype, end it before it becomes too difficult, love enough cannot overcome it.

I have seen and heard very loving couples get torn apart because of a sickle cell child.

I have seen a sickle cell patient abandoned at National hospital by his very wealthy parents.

A word of Advice to all who feel like giving up
I keep telling people that will power, is one of the strongest forces on earth, once you will yourself, to survive and persevere, your body and mind would adjust.Its called having faith, but unbeknownst to many of us, whatever the mind of a man can concieve and believe , it can achieve .
So pick yoursself up, from the worry, and crying over your present predicament.
Is it a job ?
Your marriage
Your children
Poverty
Sickness
No matter what your problems are in life, start having a positive mental attitude,make a move!! and see all your problems fade away.
No problem can be solved by whinning,dwelling in regret, self pity and worry.
Worry makes things worse, e dey bible sef

Don't give up !
Decide,Plan,Believe,Commit,Move,Persevere,Succeed , Repeat !
That's how to be a winner !

I know of 3 siblings in their 50s who are sickle cell.
Just live right, follow doctors or medical instructions and involve God in your life as in Pray!

For all my life on earth, the worst I've suffered is malaria and thats like once in six years, when that happens, it's even hell. Why will I now bring a child to this world to suffer worse, am I going up or down
