My hubby just got admission for Masters at UCL. Tetfund Scholarship. Pls I would like to know towns closet to London he can look for cheap accommodation.. A friend suggested Coventry. But we still want to check other places. And also where most opportunities are as per work.

I schooled in Coventry. There are many jobs available in Coventry. Coventry is about 2hrs30mins by coach and about 1hr or so by train. It depends on how his lectures are. As for jobs, he can comfortably get jobs in Coventry

@fizzile I support this response. Can Coventry is a lovely place and you can get lots of student jobs (care jobs) there. But it’s far from London in my opinion because I’m lazy (anything more than 30mins away by train is far).

Coventry is a little less than 2 hours by train and you can get a room with shared bathroom for 350 including bills

I hope your husband is aware that his tier4 visa allows him to only work 20 hours per week, max.
Unless if he wants to break the law , which is not advisable.

He is looking at accommodation not above £350, bills inclusive.. And yes a shared flat..
His studies from Oct to Dec is twice weekly. One has to be in class and the other can be online, I guess that's why the friend suggested Coventry..
Can you pls suggest areas he can look through if Coventry is far to London. And also work


If by UCL you mean University College London then Coventry is NOT close to London.

“Cheap” accommodation is relative. What is Cheap for a Tertfund scholar may be expensive for a PTDF scholar...etc

Type of accommodation required matters too.
Is your hubby looking for a room in a shared flat? Or he wants a flat?

But on a general note, the closer to central London (zones 1 and 2), the more expensive accommodation is.

If you provide more details, you will receive better advice.

Coventry, Luton, Bedford, Watford are within 1.50mins to London depending on transport means..for example train from Luton to London is about 20-25mins while coach is about 1.50mins and you can get one bedroom shared house for £350-400 a month depending on the condition of the house..e.g how many people sharing the flat, bills inclusive or not, distance to city center, furnished or unfurnished.

Living that far from London is not actually economically sensible considering the cost of transport and time of travel

Email them they will reply by tomorrow or Tuesday then take it up from there.

My passport is currently stuck with the American embassy and I need to do that TB test urgently before a surgery next week that won’t permit me to have an X-ray post recovery. Please what do I do ? I have been trying to reason with them but to no avail. The only evidence I have of my passport being with the American embassy is a DHL acknowledgement slip bearing my passport number as I submitted via drop box.

Please will this be a problem?? She has a business card also though, and her business card has her business name and her real name(a name with my surname) as well. I am thinking of attaching her business card with her Statement of account, what do you think?

A Brother’s statement of account does NOT suffice.
Tell your brother to transfer ALL the money into your account.
Allow the money to sit in your account (without going below the required threshold).

Let the incubation period of the money come through...then apply

Its not £12,000, you need £9.135 but you can't use your brother's bank statement for that.

You said the account is in Her Businees name didn’t you?

Granted, her business may be a sole proprietorship, but the money in that account is for Business, not for your school.


What to do next?
Let her transfer ALL the money to your account, or to her PERSONAL account or to your Fther’s account.
Then take it from there.

It is possible to TRANSFER money from the Business account int a private account. The private account should be either in Your name, or your Mother’s name, or your father’s name.

As soon as the money is transferred into the PERSONAL account, begin your count. That is Day 1.
Count ~30 days from the day of transfer.
Then you are good to go.

That's just 3 days ago. The money has to stay for a minimum of 28 days before you have a valid statement so you've got 25 days left. If I'm correct should be around July 22.
