I LOVE RUSSIA. Nigeria owes its recent successes against Boko Haram to Russian weapons. But lets be frank, the U.S military is the most powerful military machine the world has ever seen since the days of Imperial Rome. Its more powerful than the Nazi army of yesterday, its as technologically advanced as Japan and has as much nuclear weapons as Russia. That is a fact no matter how we try to pretend it is a declining power.

Minus nuclear weapons, i rate Russia militarily at par with Turkey.

Threats r not one dimensional they manifest in economical , political and security aspects.

Economic, security and political tools r the gateway to influence in other countries. So how do u keep them relevant for u r benefit ? U dump them on a bogeyman weather justified or not. Every body does it.

Unless there is convergence of interests conflicts will always exist.

But also the fact is US and Russia co-operate outside of the public scrutiny.

They have there zones of influence demarcated and restrict intervention by either side. Sometimes these mutually agreed demarcations don't work out due to various reasons and therefore conflict arises .

The Kenyan government has ordered a C-27J Spartan transport aircraft and an undisclosed number of AW139 helicopters from Italy to boost the operational capabilities of its Air Force and Police force.

The previously undisclosed aircraft acquisitions were revealed in a new report submitted last week to the parliamentary public accounts committee by Kenyan Treasury Secretary Henry Rotich.

The acquisitions were made between November 2017 and February 2018 and funded from loans advanced to Treasury by private banks. According to the report, the C-27J Spartan military aircraft was acquired for Sh20 billion (S$198 448 276) from an Italian aircraft manufacturer.

It was secured through a loan advanced to Treasury by the Unitcredit Spa Bank on 11 December 2017. Rotich said treasury secured another Sh6 billion (51 854 681 euros) from the same bank to fund the purchase of an undisclosed number of AW139 helicopters from Leonardo Helicopters.

He said the aircraft loans will only be repaid starting on 11 June 2019. The report also revealed that on 4 December 2017, Treasury and the ING Bank signed separate loan agreements for 45 917 680 euros and 8 783 120 euros to fund the acquisition and installation of a Damen 4 000 tonne slipway at the Kenyan navy base in the Mtongwe coastal area of Mombasa.

"WELL EQUIPPED MILITARY IMPERATIVE FOR STABILIZATION OF LAKE CHAD BASIN"

The Force Commander Multinational Joint Task Force, Major General Lucky Irabor has said that a well equipped military is imperative for consolidation of the successes already made and stabilization of the Lake Chad Basin. Major General Irabor made the observation at the on - going Technical Workshop on Regional Stabilization Strategy in N'Djamena, Chad.

Addressing a Committee of Experts drawn from United Nations Agencies, the African Union, the Lake Chad Basin Commission, International Non Governmental Organizations, among other bodies, Major General Irabor argued that for a force with a mandate such as that which the MNJTF has, critical requirements like Logistic support and necessary force multipliers, Amphibious capability, Capability for enhanced intelligence, border security and coordination with national forces, as well as capability for effective and measurable communication and influence operations are very essential. Speaking further, Major General Irabor noted that ;

"The entire stabilization strategy is premised on a secured environment on a sustainable basis. To this end, the MNJTF should be available in the necessary shape and form to provide the required security cover for every stage and pillar of the stabilization programme".

Speaking earlier, the Head of Mission and Executive Secretary Lake Chad Commission, Ambassador Mamman Nuhu outlined the purpose of the workshop and noted that the event is further to the previous one held in Niamey, Niger Republic, a fourth night earlier.

The 2 day workshop will also focus on other pillars such as; Governance, Gender, Socio-economic revitalization, Education, Humanitarian and Preventing violent extremism.

Dignitaries at the workshop include the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Ambassador Zaina Nyiramatama, the Head United Nations System in Chad, Stephen Tull, among others.

The Russians are not technologically advanced. The infrastructure that throws out technology talent is under developed. Russia is grossly behind in key AI, robotics and other technologies compared with other countries. The mistake is to compare them with US, they are not even in competition with the US. I am saying against China, Europe and Japan, they are losing tech edge. The problem is over dependence on oil and having a superman surrounded by oligarchs taking all decisions

You will notice the Egyptian Air Defence does not use NATO system to denote high explosive (yellow band colour) or other types of missiles.

Round colours are often random and some are chromed/shiny. The latter most likely being drill/display missiles.

The Egyptian Air Defence's air mobile and droppable Man Portable Air Defence System (MANPADS) wielding units.
