Long post alert!

Paying it forward on issue of whether spouses need to process ECA and IELTS for married people.

Very common question on this forum. I asked it myself but the simple and straightforward answer: “no, they don’t need to” really doesn’t solve the problem for some of us. A run-through of the Page 0 of this thread and the summaries of the earlier threads 1, 2 and 3 does the same.

So here it goes:

For married people, IRCC offers 3 options to the principal applicant: go with spouse, go without spouse or process with spouse who has PR or citizenship.
1. Go without spouse: The PA alone submits his/her ECA and IELTS/TEF and is processed alone. This lets the PA get the maximum individual score and has the advantage that if the PA is younger and has a good IELTS result, the spouse’s stats does not drag his/her points down below EE cut-off score.
However, you and all your family still need to do medicals, you and your spouse still need to get PCC and your POF must also cover them. If successful, you go alone and sponsor your family to come later (12 months processing) or your spouse can start another EE application.

2. Go with spouse: Here it gets tricky. There are 3 scenarios.
a. Scenario 1: The PA alone submits his/her ECA and IELTS. However, you lose a max 30 points (max 10 for spouse ECA, max 20 for spouse IELTS/TEF). It is good if your score alone can carry your family across the EE cut-off score.

This is the scenario a lot of people are really asking about as some spouses are really not ready for the work or their points drag their own points down. Simulate the scenario using the CRS simulator and put N/A for spouse Language scores and Zero for Education.

Some will wonder whether to apply as single and add the spouse after AOR. Remember that the marriage certificate will show your true wedding date and it may count as misrepresentation. Unless you really got married after application.

b. Scenarios 2: The PA also includes either of the spouse’s ECA or IELTS/TEF. You max 10 for spouse ECA or the max 20 for spouse IELTS/TEF.

c. Scenario 3: Both the PA and the spouse submit ECA and IELTS.
In all the 3 scenarios, you get 15points if your spouse has a sibling who is a PR or citizen or 10points if your spouse has Canadian work experience.

3. Process with spouse who has PR or citizenship. This is applicable if your spouse had gone ahead and gotten his PR alone or before you married. IRCC will treat you as if you are a single applicant and so you will get the maximum individual score.

Hope this makes it clearer. Assess your family's unique situation.

On not going with a spouse, spouse's factors are never part of anything. Your application is seen as if you are single.

Oh wow! Strange enough, I have seen that info before but I've never considered it's consequence - medicals for other members of the family if they would not be accompanying would go into waste since their own application (family sponsorship) would not commence earlier than PA gets COPR which could take up to 6 or more months after medicals.

DO YOU ALL GET MY POINT?

Why be in a hurry to resign man? Some people have been on IP2 since Feb 27 remember. IP2 these days does not indicate much.

Ladies and gentlemen, please don't be in a hurry to resign and do not make any rash decision. In fact, before you decide to come to Canada, try and land a job! Don't leave your job in Nigeria until you get a job or very close to landing a job in Canada.

My people, cost of living in Canada is extremely high. It could be very frustrating to be in Canada without having a source of income. Don't be too excited about getting PR. Just relax and make the right choices.

Cheers!

Thanks for your response dear. I've seen this on their portal but wanted to know what your experience was with respect to timelines. From when you finished the program to when you were able to get your statement/certificate plus when WES received plus verification.
Pardon me, the info is needed for decision making among many...

Postgraduate right? If yes, the process is very easy. The processing time is 5 to 15 working days. This is the link to the step by step process----http://nouedu.net/article/postgraduate-transcript-application-guidelines

Hi guys,

So i'm here again.

Can one get PR while studying in Canada?

Like getting a scholarship, and while you're there you apply? Is this another angle one can take?

You can apply for PR via the student route, using the post graduation work permit opportunity. Go to cic.gc.ca and read up on staying in Canada after your graduate. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/work/after-graduation.html

I have another question which i did not find in page 0. The police character certificate comes in with a page where thumbs are printed on and a page where a passport is affixed. Should one upload only the coloured character certificate or include the other two pages.

The answer you seek might not be on page 0 but this same question was asked and answered a couple of pages back. Anyways please upload ALL pages.

For all those with passport renewals or new passport application, if you don't mind why not leave a day or two out and go to Osogbo. You're sure to collect it that same day even within 3 hours or a little more. If you can't make it back that day, you will get an Hotel within the range of 7k, sleep and return the second day. I think that's better than waiting for weeks in Lagos. This is for people who are very much in a hurry though.

Probably she is out of office. Call her after the sallah break. Be rest assured that she will do your verification as soon as she sees the mail or when you get her on phone.

Have been able to reach her on phone? She doesn't seem to pick the number I have.

I used IQAS but I believe the verification stuff cannot be an issue. Certificates are usually issued on graduation day.

I can relate with him. You have no idea what it is to be stuck in a hostile environment. I resigned from my job last month, was earning almost 350k monthly, free medicals, ..... But my boss na were, everyday na query and copy HR. Before depression sets in I resigned.
Osaze is even on IP2, my CRS can not even smell ITA.

I can also relate with this hostile work environment issue. If my akant was as confident as osaze’s I would’ve long resigned. The people asking him to hang on probably don’t understand what it means to be unhappy with your job.

Good morning everyone

Silent reader here. Been reading from Page 0, finally caught up with the last page. Whew!!

So this thread truly has all the necessary (and unnecessary grin) information or pointers required for a successful application. Kudos to y'all.

I've managed to get required IELTS score and WES evaluation, so good to dive into the pool with CRS 469

Please, I need some assistance with my job role/NOC

I work as an IT network & systems administrator. Need help matching my responsibilities to the right NOC. Closest I have seen so far is NOC 2281 - Computer network technicians. Don't know if this is a good fit and if my responsibilities meets the 70% similarity mark?

Responsibilities:
• Ensure users are trained on the use of Lync features to enhance their productivities
• Support and manage WLAN, LAN (Routers & Switches) & WAN infrastructure, Circuits Devices to ensure optimum uptime and availability.
• Escalate WAN link outages, troubleshoot and follow up to resolution in a timely manner.
• Provide support operations for Printers (Liaise with 3rd Party support, Toner level monitoring and request, accounting functions.
• Ensure that the Microsoft Lync collaboration suite runs at acceptable Quality of Service levels
• Perform investigation of data network fault in LAN and WAN environments using information from multiple sources
• Manage and Supports Lync SBA infrastructure (Audio/Video, Lync client, Upgrades).
• Manage and ensures optimal availability of Lync Enterprise telephone service and constantly updating of DIDs
• Manage and Supports Netapp Storage Area Network infrastructure ensuring availability
• Manage and Monitor business system and applications (Microsoft system center suite, O365 etc) to ensure effective functionality and optimal service availability.
• Manage and Support dedicated Infrastructure.
• Manage and Support other assigned systems/applications in the sub-units

Thanks in advance
