It is as if Nigeria is going to run a closed economy because we can hardly compete with the countries that signed the free trade pact. Our products will be highly taxed in other African countries. Other products from other African countries will take over the position of dangote, innoson etc because cheaper cement and cheaper cars are going to come from other African countries. Investors will run away from Nigeria so that they can be able to access the bigger market. I stand to be corrected.

Signing the agreement will lead to a total collapse of the Nigerian economy. The only business that will survive is marketing, sales men everywhere and industrial growth will be a thing of the past. grin grin grin

The school you graduated from, pay extra 1 million to them because they taught you well.

If you are not an Economist and you still made this superb analysis, then you need to pay 10 million and don't forget to send your children to that school.

Bubu just denied us access to 1.2 billion market and some people are celebrating that. Thank God I have someone I am on the same page with.

Let's cut the chase through a simple question

Just imagine Kenya cars of #250,000 entering Nigeria against Innoson cars of #1,000,000.

Do you think Innoson will be able to sell again in a country filled with poor people.?

Do you think Innoson will be able to create more jobs if his industry close down.?
Nigeria will be better off. #Int'lEconomics

Anyway, I just responded to that in a comment above.

That’s too much free trade Biko. All these African countries that let any toxic thing come in from Europe and Asia. They need to first deal with border porosity and standard of goods before they talk about free trade. We also have enough insecurity in our country to deal with. Not to talk of a potential bunch of terrorists using Morocco and Egypt and Mali as a gateway. I am glad we didn’t sign.
the only intelligent post in this thread

of course it does, don't forget Nigeria alone is 50% of west Africa.

By d way, I only countered ur claim that west African nations depend on our industrial output and we earn more from agric than what they earn in total, as quoted below. which is a blatant lie.

Other African countries don't manufacture cars to send to Nigeria and we don't have to export cement from Nigeria, Dangote produces cement from other African countries and he can export cement from there to other African countries and still send profits back to Nigeria.

You're smart! The main problem is that the Chinese will exploit the opportunity and flood our market with cheap goods, leading to a systematic collapse of our local industries

Do you now see why I said you are as dumb as Buhari?

Stop being stupid, there are a lot of franchise businesses in Nigeria. It is not just the francophone countries.

I don't blame you. I blame the school you graduated from

Have you heard of Factor Equalisation, do you understand what Repercussion Effect is in Economics?

With this common market now, there will be 2 mega markets in Africa, AU's 1.2 billion Mega Market and Nigeria's 180 Million market. Which market do you think Investors would love to access?

We would conquered Africa if our 180 Million market can access that 1.2 billion market. Foreign Investors would use Nigeria as a base to access that AU market.
I give up on your matter. Whatever floats your boat. Atleast 180million minus you will be grateful it wasn’t signed.

what of other companies that don't have factories outside Nigeria? It simply means innoson cannot supply his cars to other African countries or his auto parts. It is going to encourage him to set up a factory outside Nigeria

To start with, not joining the pact has nothing to do with export, but more about preventing dumping, cheap imports and protecting our local economy.

Stay on topic and quit bringing up irrelevant argument.
So you are not aware that dumping is only possible because other countries can produce cheaper than us because they have electricity and better economic policies? If my good quality made in Nigeria toothpick pack is 100 Naira why would I buy same from Burkina Faso for 180 Naira?

You touted Buhari's better economic policies and once all that is rubbished both historically and currently it is suddenly off topic? A favourite zombie method. They want to hear only praise songs of Buhari. Not the truth. grin cheesy

Incessant closure of companies and massive job losses do not fit into Lai Mohammed's deception agenda.

America is the world's largest economy and they have 24/7 electricity and they are still blocking dumping so what's your point exactly.?

Cheap goods from destined for Nigeria won't be coming from any of the African countries you mentioned, but from China and repackaged in poor African countries as countries of origin and not China. This is what we are trying to avoid.

Slapping our huge market and buying power with trade tariffs sounds suicidal since markets and trade volume dictates where and how you sell and last I checked, tariffs goes both ways.

Your problem is ignorance and tribalism. Anybody who disagrees with your warped idea is suddenly Igbo.
Why does China have to repackage in other countries when they already have direct access and able to flout imbecilic policies?

Is the yuan-Naira currency swap not going to make Chinese goods cheaper in Nigeria already? A Nigerian leader who runs abroad for months to treat "anaemia" and "hale & hearty" disease using undeclared public funds while innocent Nigerian kids die of curable diseases is the archenemy of Nigeria.
Not a citizen who laments our inability to dominate the market of other African countries while claiming giant of Africa.

Your ignorance prevents you from knowing that the large domestic market of a huge affluent population gives USA the leverage to dictate to other countries.

No it doesn't to the extent of USA that has a rich large population. 70% of Nigerians live on less than $1 a day. Nigeria that cannot provide

My investment would is giving back. Not because I need proceeds from it to live.

Unlike your "political idols" who steal money from Nigeria to store abroad, reasonable Nigerians actually earn money abroad and bring to Nigeria.
In any case, I was persuaded by Jonathan#'s agric drive to farm in 9ja. Buhari's people have now put a stop to that.

I wonder why you people have such issues with Igbo people. If you hate them that much, let them have their own country.

By the way I am not Igbo & I have nothing to do with Ipob.
